Chapter 213: I Will Not Give Up the Position of Lead Surgeon
Chapter 213: I Will Not Give Up the Position of Lead Surgeon
Joshua raised his hand, and Ava naturally placed hers in his palm.
He pulled gently, and Ava fell into the man's arms, sitting on his lap as his familiar scent enveloped her.
Joshua's low, husky voice responded, "Our son is quite a handful at night."
Ava raised her hand and ruffled Joshua's hair. "Finn is so quiet when he sleeps. How is he noisy?"
"His sleeping manners are terrible." Joshua's face darkened as he thought about last night's punch.
Seeing Joshua's gloomy expression, Ava couldn't help but laugh. "Did Finn really get to you?"
"You're still laughing. Tonight, those two must sleep in their own room."
Ava tapped Joshua's forehead. "Got it."
Finn and Cleo had been trained to sleep on their own since they were little. It was only because she'd been too busy lately and spent less time with them that they'd been clinging to her.
"You haven't had breakfast, right? Have some oatmeal."
Ava placed the oatmeal in front of Joshua. "I'm not really fond of oatmeal." But he reached out to take it and added, "But since my wife is telling me to drink it, I'll drink it."
Ava smiled. "By the way, I'm planning to have Grandpa admitted to the hospital today. The hospital has better equipment, so we'll have Grandpa under observation for a while. I'll try to schedule the surgery as soon as possible."
"You're the doctor, I'll listen to you."
"You need to go to work today, right? Mom and I can take Grandpa to the hospital. If you're busy, just come by later." Ava could imagine how busy Joshua was just by looking at the piles of documents on the desk.
Joshua nodded. "Yeah, it's pretty hectic. I have a meeting later that I can't get out of. I'll have to trouble you with Grandpa."
"Don't worry, I can handle it."
Joshua lowered his head and kissed Ava on the forehead. Ava cooperatively closed her eyes.
"I know my wife is the best."
Ava smiled softly and got up from Joshua's lap. "I'm off. I have a lot to prepare. Remember to finish your oatmeal."
"Okay."
Ava was capable and arranged everything perfectly. Victor was admitted to the hospital, and in the VIP room, Ava was recording the old man's heart rate from the monitor.
"Grandpa, you're in great condition right now. I'll arrange the surgery as soon as possible."
"Grandpa." A familiar voice came from the doorway. Ava's face immediately turned cold as Claire walked over with a smile.
"Ursa, why didn't you tell me you were bringing Victor to the hospital?" Claire said to herself, then turned to look at Ava as if just noticing her. "Oh, Ava, you're here too."
Ava looked up coldly. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm Grandpa's attending surgeon. Of course I need to check on his condition." Claire said, "Do you have a problem with that?"
"When did I ever ask you to be my surgeon? I want Ava to operate on me." Victor said coldly, looking at Claire with displeasure.
He didn't like this girl from the first moment he saw her. Her scheming was written all over her face.
Claire looked at Ursa with some difficulty.
Ursa's expression shifted, and after careful consideration, she said, "Dad, I know you trust Ava, and I trust her abilities too. But setting everything else aside, I still think Cynthia is more suitable to be the lead surgeon than Ava." Ursa spoke earnestly.
She really didn't like Cynthia's character, but she couldn't deny her abilities.
From every angle, Cynthia had to be the lead surgeon for this operation.
Ursa walked over to Ava and held her hand. "Ava, I know you're worried about Grandpa. Since you're worried about him, you should think about what's best for him."
Ava was indeed capable. The fact that she could pull Victor back from the brink of death was proof enough.
But no matter how capable she was, she couldn't compare to the renowned Cynthia.
Claire raised her chin and looked at Ava smugly.
Ava pulled her lips slightly. "I understand what you're saying."
Ursa beamed. "I'm glad you can see reason. Then Cynthia, I'll leave Dad's surgery to you."
"I won't give up my position as lead surgeon for Grandpa's operation."
Ursa froze. It took her a couple of seconds to react to Ava's resolute tone, and a frown crossed her face. "Why must you be so stubborn?"
"You don't need to say more. I must be the one to perform Grandpa's surgery."
Ava knew exactly how capable Claire was. If this surgery was in her hands, it would only lead to death.
She wouldn't allow that to happen.
So she wouldn't back down on this matter at all.
Victor was clearly on Ava's side too, leaving Ursa feeling helpless.
Just then, Lika somehow learned that Victor was hospitalized and came carrying a large bouquet of flowers.
"Grandpa. Ava, Dr. Cynthia, you're all here. Victor, I didn't know what flowers you liked, so I just bought some. I hope you like them."
Victor nodded distantly, being polite. "Thank you."
"Cynthia, is Grandpa feeling better? Has the surgery date been set?" Lika looked at Claire and asked with concern.
Claire stepped forward to answer. "The surgery date hasn't been set yet, but I'm already working on the surgical plan. I'll be able to operate on Grandpa soon, it's just..."
Hearing Claire's suddenly complicated tone, Lika asked worriedly, "Is there a problem?"
"It's nothing really, just that Ava insists on performing this surgery for Victor herself, so the lead surgeon hasn't been decided yet."
As she spoke, Claire deliberately put on a complicated and worried expression.
Ava's face was cold. She found it disgusting to watch.
Hearing this, Lika immediately turned to Ava. "Ava, I know you've always been concerned about Victor's condition. Since you care about Victor, you should let Cynthia be the lead surgeon. You know Dr. Cynthia is a top-tier cardiac surgeon. With her as the lead surgeon, the success rate will be much higher, right?
Ava, surely you can understand this." Lika sighed. "Of course, I know Ava is also a very good doctor, but compared to Cynthia..." Lika trailed off. "Ava, stop being stubborn."
Ava slowly looked up at Lika, who was acting like a good person.
"Lika, I think this is the Thomas family's business and has nothing to do with you, right?"
'The Thomas family's business?'
Lika was stunned and she thought, 'How shameless of her! She hasn't even officially joined the family, yet she acts like she belongs here.'
"Also, Mom, no matter what you say, I will be the lead surgeon in the end. Please trust me. If I say I can do it, I will definitely do it." Ava's tone was firm and left no room for argument.
Ursa opened her mouth but didn't know what to say. The natural authority in Ava made her instinctively want to trust her.
Lika's face stiffened.
What did that bitch just call Ursa?
Mom?
And the key point was that Ursa didn't object, which meant she accepted Ava calling her that.
Lika's heart shook violently. The only possibility was that Ava and Joshua had remarried.
Otherwise, Ursa wouldn't accept Ava calling her that.
This thought startled Lika, and she took a step back. Her lower back accidentally hit the corner of the table, and the pain immediately brought her back to her senses.
She clutched her clothes tightly, overwhelming resentment welling up inside her.
Ava had remarried Joshua so quickly. That meant her chances were even smaller. Damn it.
