Why was she not feeling nauseous because of their food? Kyra thought as she rubbed her nape then she realized that it was because she was not going to eat it. It was more about her swallowing the food to her stomach than the smell.
The chef was fast with whipping up something sour for Kyra. Before the chef brought the food in, alpha Anton and Tanya dropped their forks and stopped eating. When she asked them, they said they could not eat while another person at the table was not eating. They could not have her watching them like a spectator.
Nothing she said moved them to eat so she gave up with slumped shoulders and listened to Tanya tell stories about her travels.
Kyra felt a little jealous. She always wanted to travel and see the world. She’s read her mothers journal and it was the same for her. Her mother wanted to go on different trips with her father after she gave birth to her but unfortunately, she never got the chance because she died during childbirth. Though her mother did travel to a lot of places while alive.
Kyra wanted to live her mothers dream and it was also something she yearned for. And freedom and peace that came with visiting different places. Her father nearly got violent with her when she told him about her plans and when he found out that she took her mothers journal and read it.
He collected it back and she never got to see it again but she was glad she had read everything that was in it. She learned of her mother’s happiness about being pregnant with her and also how much she and her father loved that she was going to be their child. Her father’s love for her changed when, according to him, she killed her mother during the delivery.
“Kyra?”
Kiss shook her head and blinked back the little tears that had sprang to her eyes in remembrance of the mother she never met. She looked at Tanya who was looking at her in concern.
“Are you okay? This is the second time I’m calling your name. You were lost in thoughts.” Tanya’s brows were furrowed.
“Ahh, sorry. I just remembered a fond memory.” She was glad that Tanya did not notice the tears that were in her eyes. “Did you ask me something before?”
“Yeah,” Tanaya nodded but she was still giving Kyra an inquisitive look, “I was asking if you’ve traveled before.”
Kyra shook her head with a sigh. There was sadness in her eyes that she was trying hard but failing to hide. It was plain for Anton to see though Tanya was blind to it.
“I’ve never traveled before. I’ve been in my father’s pack all my life.”
“But why? You have all the resources to do so. I mean, you were the daughter of an alpha.”
Tanya’s words sounded biting and as if she was mocking her but Kyra told herself to stop overthinking. It must be her own imagination and remembering the past must be messing with her head
“Ah, the thing was that my father was scared of something happening to me.” Kyra lied smoothly, “He said I could travel with my mate in the future.”
Oh dear moon goddess, why had she said that? Why couldn’t she have stopped her lie
with the first one? Now she’s gone and brought up talks about Tristan.
“You know, my father is exactly like yours. He refused to let me travel the first time I brought it up for the same reason as your fathers. I’m his only daughter so he was scared of losing me. I had to train to be stronger and to be a good fighter and convince him that I was old enough to take care of myself and that no harm would come to me.”
Tanya must have noticed the regret on Kyra’s face when she spoke about her mate so she did not make any comments about it.
Kyra shot her an appreciative glance. “I wish I had fought hard too then, maybe I might also have stories to tell about my travels like you.” She could not keep the jealousy out of her voice.
“You are still young. Younger than Anton and I. You have all the time in the world. You have your whole life ahead of you. You can travel after giving birth. I’m sure the expenses won’t be much for Anton to cater for, right?” Tanya turned to ask Anton with a wide smile but his attention was on Kyra who had gone pale.
Kyra felt fear take over her, sinking it deadly claws deep in her heart. Why did it feel like history was about to repeat itself with her?
Her mother wanted to travel after giving birth to her but she never got the chance because she died and now, Tanya was asking her to travel after she gives birth.
What if she also died during childbirth? She has never thought far to when she would give birth but now, fear filled her heart, chilling her to the bones at the thought of it.
At least her father was there even if he threw her to his nannies to take care of. Tristan did not want anything to do with her or their child. Who would take care of her baby if anything were to happen to her? The thought brough great pain to her heart and her hand subconsciously moved to grab her stomach as if trying to protect the little life in there from invisible forces.
“Kyra.”
She could feel a big hand on her shoulder shaking her out of her thoughts. It was alpha Anton and when she looked at him, he looked concerned.
“What?” Her voice sounded shaky even to her own ears.
“Are you sure you are okay? You are pale and sweaty. Maybe you should go back to your room. I’ll send a doctor over.” Anton told her as his eyes roamed her face.
Kyra was going to argue, but she knew that it was actually for the best. Apart from when she found out about her pregnancy, she’s never been to the doctor again. She needed to be checked.
Kyra stood up and Anton and Tanya did the same. “I’ll leave the both of you to enjoy your meal,” she then gave a little bow.
Alpha Anton drew back her chair so that she could move out, “I’ll escort you to your room.”
Kyra was going to turn him down when Tanya spoke first.
“No, leave it, Anton. I’ll see that she gets to her room safely.” Tanya said while moving to Kyra’s side.
Kyra was also going to tell her not to worry but Tanya was already on her side and intertwining their hands together. She decided to leave her be and they both walked out of the dinning.
At the door, Kyra threw a look at alpha Anton over her shoulder and found that his eyes were on her.
She wished he was the one escorting her to her room and not Tanya.
