Thirty seven
“You don’t want us to be friends?” Tanya looked sad as she asked Kyra.

“No,” Kya waved her hands as she quickly tried to assure Tanya, “Of course I want us to be friends. It’s just that I’ve never had a friend before so I don’t…” she trailed off and looked down again when she saw pity in Tanya’s eyes.

Kyra knew that the look in Anton’s eyes must mirror Tanya’s, and she did not want their pity.

Her reason for not accepting Tanya’s request to be friends quickly was not really because of this. Tanya was beautiful and bubbly, but she was giving off a vibe that Kyra could not understand. It made her weary.

“Well, it’s a good thing you can now have friends.” Alpha Anton said. “Tanya and I have been friends since childhood. I don’t mind sharing her with you.”

“Oh please, stop it, Anton.” Tanya’s voice came out softly as she slapped Anton on his biceps.

Kiss watched the exchange with a weird feeling curling in the pit of her stomach, and she suddenly began to feel nauseous.

“I think I’m going to be sick.” Kyra said as she tilted her head up so as not to throw up on the table and embarrass herself.

Anton and Tanya were both on her side immediately. They helped her up and led her somewhere which Kyra later discovered was the bathroom as they bent her head over the toilet.

Someone held her hair behind her as she threw up guts and a big and warm hand patted her on the back. After throwing up all the content in her stomach, Kyra moved back and sat down on the cold floor breathing hard.

“Here, rinse your mouth.” Tanya told Kyra as she offered her a cup of water.

“Thank you,” Kyra smiled to show her gratitude as she reached for the water, but Anton was faster. He took the cup and brought it to her mouth.

“Open,”

Kyra was surprised at his action, but his commanding tone made her mouth fall open, and he tilted the cup so that water could flow into her mouth.

Kyra was looking at him from under her lashes as she drank from the cup, but his eyes were on her lips.

“Wash your mouth and pour it out. Don’t swallow it.”

As Kyra did as she was told, she discreetly rolled her eyes. Why would she want to swallow it in the first place? Disgusting. He was treating her like she was a kid.

Anton made her repeat the process three consecutive times before he helped her to her feet and the three of them exited the bathroom, with Tanya walking behind them.

Anton's hand was on the small of Kyra’s back as they walked. It caused Kyra to squirm, and she wanted to move away from his hands because of Tanya who was present, but alpha Anton held on tight and squeezed her waist as he whispered close to her.

“Don’t even bother. You can’t escape me.”

“Your friend is here. You should comport yourself.” Kyra whispered back, resisting the urge to jab him at his side with her elbow. The last thing she wanted was for Tanya to think that they were lovers.

She could see it in the other woman’s eyes that she was already suspecting it and Anton’s action was worsening it.

It would be a shameful thing if others were to think that she was getting intimate with alpha Anton while pregnant for another man and without a relationship between them.

Already, her reputation was soiled from being weak, an unloved and least favorite child and from her father selling her off. It would be worse if this was added to the rumors. She would never want to appear in public ever again.

The nauseating feeling rose again as soon as Kyra sat down, and she immediately stood back up.

“I think it’s the food. I don’t like the smell.” Kyra said with wrinkled nose as she glared down at the foods like it was the cause of all her problems. And it was. Maybe not all her problems but the current one.

She was hungry, but now, she won’t be able to eat because of the smell of the food. The most annoying thing was that it tasted delicious. Kyra groaned at this fact.

“I’ll tell the kitchen to prepare something else for you.” Anton immediately told her and his eyes took on a faraway look as he mind-linked his chef and asked him to come over.

“When an old friend of mine was pregnant, it was also like this. She was sick most of the time and the chef had to prepare food with sour tastes for her.” There was a sad smile on Tanya’s face as she said this and Kyra felt Anton stiffen beside her.

Why was it as if he knew who Tanya was talking about? Of course, he must know this lady because he and Tanya were very close.

Perhaps this woman was also their friend. Their reaction was a bit off, and she saw Tanya sniffing and fighting back tears and wanted to ask if this friend was still alive because their reaction was making her suspect otherwise.

She said nothing and chose to swallow her question so that she won’t come off as insensitive. Her curiosity was not worth it.

There was silence after Tanya’s statement that none of them tried to break, and the air turned gloomy.

Kya released a deep sigh of relief when the chef stepped in and broke the silence.

“You called for me, alpha.” His hands were clasped in front of him as he bowed low, his head nearly touching his knees. It caused Kyra to look at him with raised brows.

She’s not seen Anton interact much with his pack member except for that woman who was looking for her daughter. Kyra thought that bowing this low was funny. A little more and the man would just tumble to the floor headfirst.

“Yes, I called you over because I need you to prepare something else for Kyra. She’s pregnant, and she hates the smell of this food. She just threw up.” He explained to the chef who then turned to look at Kyra.

“What would you like me to prepare for you, Miss Kyra? Something sweet or sour?” He asked respectfully.

Kyra opened her mouth to say sweet because she’s always had a sweet tooth but ended up choosing sour. The first food was sweet and one of her favorites. Maybe she should go with sour and see how it was.

“Alright. I’ll be quick.” The chef gave a deep bow again before he turned to leave.

“Tell the maids to come in and clear the table.” Anton called behind the chef. He was talking about the food that Kyra was not going to eat.

“Okay, alpha.” The Chef called over his shoulder without turning around.

The maids were quick in clearing the plates in front of Kyra and then she could finally sit down. Though Anton and Tanya were eating the same food, she did not feel the urge to throw up at the smell.

Kyra frowned in confusion, why was that?
