Thirty four

Kyra carefully combed her hair as she looked at her reflection in the mirror. She realized vaguely that her hair had grown more than it had previously. The brown texture was more prominent now. She liked it so much.

"Is it because of my beauty that he wants me?" She asked as her hand moved to trace the contours of her face. She was the exact replica of her mother who was one of the most beautiful Luna Queen, so Kyra knew that she was very beautiful.

No matter what she had told herself since Alpha Anton had proposed to her about becoming his girlfriend, she couldn’t deny that she had thought about what it would be like if she were to become a Luna Queen like her mother.

Kyra sighed as she brought her hand down from her face, and let it move down her white gown. It was beautiful enough to stand out, but she had nowhere to go actually. Yet, she chose not to nag about it and remain indoors.

Cynthia has not been in her room since yesterday and she was beginning to think that alpha Anton asked her not to. Was he trying to starve her so that she could bend under his will and accept to be his girlfriend?

Did he want her to go to the kitchen and get food by herself? That was the work of a maid but maybe that's what he was trying to do. He was going to push her into the role since she kept insisting that she was nothing but a maid.

"Miss, I brought you breakfast," Cynthia mumbled as she stepped into the room.

Kyra jumped in her seats andas she turned, a wide smile gracing her face. She was happy to see Cynthia.

“Seems like your alpha does not want me to go find food in the kitchen like a maid after all.” Kyra said before she could stop herself.

Cynthia frowned lightly as she moved forward. It made Kyra slightly confused. Had she said anything wrong? Or, the pack didn’t like any talk that involved the Alpha?

"Here is your food, miss," she said as she kept the plates down.

"What is the matter, Cynthia? Did I say something wrong? You’re acting so cold right now," Kyra pointed out. Cynthia was not even smiling.

Cynthia sighed dramatically. "You shouldn’t care about my moods, you know?" She said at once.

Kyra raised her brow at her. "What are you saying? Why wouldn’t I care about how you feel? Is that even possible?"

"See..” Cynthia hit her forehead with a sigh. "You want the alpha to treat you like a maid because he bought you with his money. Yet, you got offended when the maids insulted you the other day and wanted to treat you like a typical maid in the palace. So, that is to show that you can never be like us at all. You were a princess, and here, Alpha Anton still makes sure you are treated like one. So, dispel all the thoughts that he would ever treat you like us because that is not going to happen. None of us live in such a beautiful room. This room is reserved for Alpha Anton’s Luna." she gushed.

Kyra slowly pulled her hands down as those words sunk into her ears. Cynthia was a hundred percent correct. She was a hypocrite. She was asking to be treated in one way and when she was, she got angry and cried.

Guess the fact that even if her father never treated her rightly and even if no one held any respect for her back at her father’s pack, the fact that she was of royal blood could not be changed. It’s been ingrained in her. She’s never been made to do any laborious work all her life.

Funny how she told alpha Anton that she wanted to work and pay him when she’s never worked her entire life. How was she even going to do it when she was pregnant? What had she been thinking when she said that? That’s God alpha Anton did not agree. She had been practically signing her death certificate.

“Thanks for making me snap out of my head, Cynthia.”

Even if alpha Anton was playing tricks on her with all he was doing for her, he was at least treating her right. Good thing Cynthia drew her attention to it once more.

Cynthia smirked. "That is what I’m here for. You can’t make yourself so little, ok? And, the Alpha says that for some reason he knows you don’t want to have breakfast with him, so he wants you to have it in your room," she explained.

Kyra sighed as she said, "I would get to it."

She made her way to the small table and sat down. There was scotch egg and a cup of hot coffee on the table, and it made her feel even better than before.

She had not realized how hungry she was till that moment and it reminded her of what her father always told her step-sisters. They should never go to bed hungry or stay without eating. He has never told her that any day. He did not even know if she ate before going to bed.

Kyra dug into the meal as Cynthia moved over to the other side of the room, trying to stretch some rumpled clothes that the head-maid had given her.

"You won’t join me?" She asked Cynthia as she took a sip of her coffee. This was the first time she was inviting a maid to join her in her meal.

There was a shy laugh, and then, "I have eaten earlier this morning. You don’t need to worry about me."

That bit was enough for Kyra, and she focused more on eating her meal. In about a few more minutes, she was done. If only she didn’t have her doubts, the Alpha was treating her better than her mate ever did.

With a sigh, she turned around as she watched Cynthia work her magic on the cloth. It was a bit boring to see, but it was the only entertainment around.

They stayed in amicable silence for sometime before the memory of her time in the garden back in her father’s pack assaulted her. That was another place she could really be herself, and she wanted to be there at this moment but she couldn’t.

"Cynthia?" She called softly.

Cynthia lifted her gaze to her as she said, "Yes, miss?"

"I was wondering if such a huge pack has a garden," she said.

Cynthia placed the material on her thigh as she smiled a bit. "This is the Black Shadow Pack, miss. Of course, we have a big garden. It might even be bigger than the one in your old pack.”

Kyra shook her head. "I don’t believe that." The garden in her father’s pack was really big.

She watched as Cynthia acted as though she was going to have a panic attack before rising to her feet. "You would believe me when you see it, right?" Kyra nodded. "Good. Then, get up! We have some doubts to clear. You would eat back your words when you see it, Miss," she whined.

Kyra chuckled, but didn’t stand till Cynthia pulled her up. She laughed as she followed the bubbling maid out of her room after struggling to wear her slippers. Kyra sighed as she held her skirt a bit.

The look on Cynthia’s face made her laugh, but she didn’t say much about it. Outside, her eyes caught a redhead beauty whistling to herself as she bounced up the stone porch. Kyra was stunned.

She had never imagined in her life that someone was as beautiful as this. She looked like an angel and Kyra would have believed her to be one except that the woman’s scent was off that of a werewolf’s.

"She is beautiful," she mumbled as she came to a halt.

Cynthia stopped too and her eye followed Kyra’s. "Well, you’re more beautiful than her though," she grumbled.

Kyra shook her head in disbelief before she asked, "Who is she?"

"Alpha Anton’s childhood friend, Tanya," Cynthia said easily.

That name reminded Kyra at once of the way Alpha Anton had acted when he had heard that a certain Tanya was requesting his presence. So this was the lady?

She felt her heart plummet at once, and pain seated through her but she swallowed it. Why was the lady so beautiful and why did alpha Anton have a female best friend?

What man, an alpha for that matter, in his right senses would have a female best friend?

Wait? Why was she even thinking this way? Does the gender of a best friend matter? Why was she angry that Alpha Anton has a female best friend?

No, she couldn’t be jealous! They had nothing, no relationship with each other and she was pregnant with another man’s baby. She was not jealous!

With a groan, Kyra turned and stomped away in the other direction while Cynthia ran to catch up with her.
