Twenty nine
The next morning, Kyra woke up because of a stomach upset and jumped out of bed. She rushed to the bathroom with her hand covering her mouth and her head tilted back.
She fell down on the cold floor as she threw up in the toilet. Her insides felt like they wanted to rush up to her mouth as she continued to vomit. Her vomiting turned into dry heaving when there was morning more left in her stomach.
When the worst of the spasms subsided, she leaned back on her knees, trying to control her irrational breathing. She’s only vomited a few times and experienced morning sickness when she first found out she was pregnant. It stopped as soon as she got here and she forgot about it until this morning again.
Kyra used the back of her hand to clean off the sweat from her brows. Then, she slowly rose to her feet, moving slowly to the door. Only for her to get nauseous once more, causing her to run back to the toilet as she threw up once more. After a few minutes of torturing vomit, she flushed the toilet and walked to stand in front of the mirror in the bathroom.
Her face was normal this, it was not swollen like she expected. She rinsed her mouth with water before she walked beck into her room.
Cynthia was standing in the middle of the room with a tray of food in her hand. Kyra sighed when she spotted her.
“You did not need to bring the food so early,” she pointed out.
Cynthia bowed a bit. “I'm sorry, miss,” She started as she moved closer to the bed. “Alpha Anton told me to give you the food before he went out.”
“He is not here?” It was not a surprise as he was the alpha and must have a lot on his plate.
She nodded. “Yes, miss,”
Kyra rubbed the back of her head as she watched Cynthia place the food on the bed. Maybe, it was good that things happened this way so that they could have some space from each other. It was so difficult to understand what was going on in the Alpha’s head, and she didn't wish to think about all the things that had happened last night. It was too much work.
Kyra forces herself to stay in the moment. “Cynthia, could you please do something for me?” She asked calmly.
“Yes, I can miss,” She said at once.
Kyra nodded as she kneaded her forehead that was beginning to throb. “I honestly don't feel like eating, but I would like to eat a little if you help me out. I need to walk around the pack, and at least take some drugs for nausea. I'm not feeling myself this morning, and it's getting so hard to think straight,” she explained.
She wished not to leave her room after what happened on her first day here, but she needed fresh air.
Cynthia bit her lips, looking quite unsure of the whole thing.
Kyra pulled her hand down from her forehead as she cocked her head to the side. She was surprised to see Cynthia hesitating to do something for her.
“Please,” she found herself adding as she did not have the energy to exert authority. She felt weak after all that throwing up she did.
“Ok, Miss, but you have to keep your side of the deal by eating everything,” she whined.
Kyra’s eyes darted to the tray of food in Cynthia’s hand and this time, she was the one who hesitated. The food looked inviting, but she really did not feel like eating much.
Why was Cynthia even bargaining with her anyway?
“Fine, I’ll eat it all.” She felt too lazy to speak much.
“Ok, I will be back. I'm coming,” Cynthia promised as she stopped the tray of food and left the room. Kyra did not even bother to ask where she was going.
She sighed as she massaged her temple once more. She was still having a bad headache, but she was sure that everything was going to be fine this time around. There would be no more hiccups now Alpha Anton was not around.
Thankfully, her wolf had stopped trying to annoy her. If the creature had nor been a part of her soul, she would have dealt severely with it. It was the most annoying thing ever when the creature who was supposed to be a companion hardly offered comfort to her but always called her out. No one deserved something like that at all. She also needed comfort sometimes.
The door slid open again, and Cynthia stepped back in, almost at a run. She helped Kyra drink her medicines, and also prepared her for a walk, by dressing her in a simple gown and black colored sandals.
Kyra loved the outfit because it made her feel normal and she was grateful that she survived last night and was alive this morning.
“Are you ready,” Cynthia queried.
Kyra smiled lightly. “I am. Let's go,” she mumbled. Hee ankle was hurting a little but she was not limping. Whatever Anton allied on her leg worked.
They walked out of the room to the halls. With every step Kyra took, she was feeling more like herself. There was no telling what would happen in her future, but at least for the moment, there was a subtle hope that things would be fine.
They crossed a room that was labeled with a sign that reads, 'DON'T TRESPASS’ It made Kyra stop and a frown tugged her lips.
“Cynthia?” She whispered.
The maid stopped by her side, and looked at the same door. Kyra noted that her expression was somber as though there were some secrets hidden in there.
She licked her lips a bit, as she asked, “Does the Alpha have a family?”
Cynthia nodded.
"Is his family living in this pack?” What she really wanted to ask was what was behind the closed door, but she knew that Cynthia wouldn't tell her.
“No, miss,” She said firmly. “Alpha Anton’s parents are dead, but he has a sister. His sister does not stay in the pack, but in the human world. Her happiness lies in acting as though she were human.”
“Human world? But, how is that possible?”
Cynthia made a sign of sealed lips. “There is only so much that I can say, miss. If you want more information, you can talk to the Alpha about it. It would be a good alternative, really,” she said calmly, but there was a slight panic in her green eyes.
Kyra sighed. “I'm so sorry for putting you in a tight spot,”
Even asking about his family was a taboo, good thing she did not allow her curiosity push her to ask what was behind the closed door.
“It's alright.”
They were both on their way again, and Kyra wondered at the strangeness of his sister living among humans. She tried to ignore it as she walked down the stairs delicately. She would not think about Alpha Anton as she originally planned.
As she moved, she was aware that the maids, who were doing their various jobs, weren't paying attention to her. It was a bit strange. They ought to be taunting her by now. Wasn't that their favorite pastime and how they behaved when she first got here? She was prepared for their biting words today so they should bring it on.
Kyra finally walked out of the pack house, and she looked around watching as some of the servants moved past her quickly like they didn't want trouble.
“Cynthia, why is everyone acting like this?” She queried.
Cynthia moved closer to her, as she whispered, "Alpha Anton gave them all a strict warning. They were not to make jest of you anymore, or they would be seriously dealt with. These losers had to be put in their places at some point because they are not better than you and had no right to insult you that day.”
Kyra gasped in shock, unable to believe what she was hearing. Anton warned the maids by himself to not insult her?
