Twenty five

Twenty five
Kyra did not know for how long she cried but through it all, Anton kept consoling her and telling her that she was fine. When there were no longer any tears in her eyes to cry, she kept on sniffing until she finally gathered the courage to raise her head from Anton’s chest and adjust her weak body in his arms so that she was sitting up.

She could feel different prying eyes on her back but all her attention was on Anton who looked so relieved that she had stopped crying.

“Are you okay now?”

“Yes,” Her voice came out crooked, and her cheeks colored in embarrassment at the sound and at the fact that she cried in his arms. She cleared her throat and tried again, “I’m fine. Sorry about that.”

She immediately began to wiggle so that she could get up from his lap, but Anton did not release her. She was not surprised at this because it has already occurred a number of times now. He wouldn’t let her go until he wanted to.

“Kyra?” Alpha Anton called softly, but she could meet his gaze.

“I’m fine.”

“I’m so sorry I got lost in my head and nearly got you killed. Please accept my apology.”

Kyra’s eyes widened, and her head snapped up. This time she met his eyes with her surprised one’s. An alpha just admitted to his wrong and apologized to her? How crazy was that?

Alphas had so much ego and even if they were wrong, they would challenge the other person to a duel than apologize, but he just did that to her, a lowly slave he bought with his money.

“You really don’t have to apologize for anything. It was my fault you got lost in your head.”

If she has been careful and has not bumped into Roselyn then nothing of this sort would have happened. They would still be at the party, and he would be discussing business with other alphas.

“No, I should have better controls of my own wolf, but I don’t, and I nearly got you killed. I apologize for that.”

“Alpha…”

“Please accept my apologies, Kyra,” he interrupted her.

Kyra could not say anything, so she just nodded her head while still in a daze because he looked as if he would not stop saying sorry until she accepted his apology.

Kyra turned her head to look behind her when she heard a snicker only to see Anton’s entourage who followed them to the party standing at the front of the opened carriage door. One of them must have made that mocking sound, and Kyra could bet one of her hands that it was one of the women.

“Alpha, what happened?” One of them asked.

“Nothing. If the horses are still okay and the drivers are not shaken, we can continue back home.” Anton said, dismissing them.

“Yes, alpha.” All of them stepped back at once without another word and they shut the carriage door, leaving only Kyra and Anton again.

“Please, let me go, I need to sit down.” She liked the feel of his arms around her, but she was still uncomfortable. They were not lovers, so they were not supposed to be holding each other like this.

Thankfully, Anton released her this time and Kyra slowly stood up and moved back to the seat opposite him.

There was a moment of silence after she sat down facing him and the both of them locked gazes.

“Your face and leg, does it still hurt?”

“My face?” Kyra asked as she subconsciously raised her hand to touch her cheek that was swollen.

She winced a little as she realized that Roselyn hit her so hard and that her cheek was swollen. She has not been feeling the pain before, but now that she’s touched it, she could feel it. This was precisely what happened to her spraining her leg. Until Anton touched the main spot, she did not feel any pain.

What was happening to her, and why was it like her body had gone numb and so unfeeling? In the past, all of her senses were so heightened she felt times two of what she was supposed to feel but everything tonight was so odd.

“It’s morning serious. With just the application of ice tonight, I’ll be fine in the morning.” Kyra said as she allowed her hand to drop to her lap with a plop.

“I’ll help you apply it when we get home.” He told her and he gave a little nod in acceptance.

Thereafter, silence reigned in the carriage as it started and slowly made its way back to Anton’s pack.

Anton helped Kyra down when they got to the front of the palace. Only two of the carriages followed them back because the others had to go and drop the remaining people at their homes. The two of them slowly made their way inside the palace until they reached the threshold of the east wing, and he stopped her.

"We need to get your wounds treated. If I had not taken you with you, you’ll be fine and not covered with bruises right now.” Anton’s voice came out softly as his eyes roamed all over her face.

She blinked lightly. “It’s not your fault. Nobody saw all of these coming, so don’t blame or beat yourself up because of it.” Roselyn and the carriage incident was not someone that happens everyday.

According to Anton, Roselyn attacked hee on purpose but she did not know the purpose and Anton getting angry in the carriage was something she did not want to think about. She’s never been so scared in her life like she had when she realized that her was not himself but has allowed his beast form to take over him.

She could see the way his jaw ticked painfully as he slowly raised his hand and placed his hands on the side of her cheek that was bruised by the slap. Kyra couldn't help it, she flinched in response. The pain was more intense than she had imagined.

“I would have given her a pinch of what she'd done if she wasn't a woman,” he growled low in his throat.

Kyra touched his hand quickly. “You already did, even when you didn’t have to.” What was he talking about? He nearly choked Roselyn to death in front of everyone and even asked that she slapped Roselyn back! “I'm a slave after all and…"

“Stop saying that,” he snapped as he grabbed one of her hands in his.

She looked away from him. “It doesn't change the truth, does it?”

Kyra pulled her hands from his and walked into the house. It was a bit silent, save for the guards standing at odd places. She chose to ignore them as she marched in the direction of her room. She placed her hand on the doorknob to push it open, only for her to be swept off her feet without notice.

Kyra let out a yelp of surprise as she stared at Alpha Anton's cold face thst wa now very close to hers. “What are you doing?” She choked out.

He didn't say a word to her, and it only made her realize how stuck she was in this situation. What would she say if some of the maids saw them in this position?

The moon goddess knew she was not trying to seduce the man. Alpha Anton was a crazy soul who did as he pleased without thinking of the consequences. She’s noticed it already.

“There would be a lot of gossip if anyone sees us like this, Alpha.  Goodness, are you even listening to me?” She cried when he ignored her protests.

He smirked in response, and calmly turned away from her room as he carried her off to somewhere she did not know.
