Chapter 24: Twenty four
Kyra decided to answer him and engage him in his question and answer section. Maybe in this way she will be able to get through to him. Ignoring his questions and trying to make him snap out of his head would only lead to their deaths faster. She could not let that happen.
Speaking with him in this condition where she couldn't even breathe properly and felt like her heart would soon combust in her chest would be hard, but she needed to try her best.
“I did not slap her, not because I did not want to obey you or something. I refused to slap her because I did not want any more trouble than what I’ve caused already.” Kyra told him as she began gasping loudly, trying to drag air into her lungs through her mouth. It was a difficult position to be in because she still had to use her mouth to speak.
Kyra has elapsed into a state of shock when instead of him telling her to get down on her knees before Roselyn to apologize and beg for mercy, he did the opposite and asked for her to return Roselyn’s slap. Any other person in her position would have also been shocked to their bone marrow.
Where in history has it been said that a slave was maid to slap a master because she was slapped? Nowhere in history, so you couldn’t blame her for not doing as he told her.
How did they even get here anyway? He already dealt with Roselyn, but Kyra was certain that he had been angry when he dragged her out of the party. Seems like her near-fall and spraining of her ankle distracted him from his anger until they settled down again in the carriage.
“You were being disobedient. You did not cause any trouble because I was watching you and saw her bump into you on purpose, but you were not paying attention so you did not notice. You belong to me now, no member of my pack should be so weak. How were you ever the daughter of an alpha if you can’t even stand up for yourself?” He took his hands off her shoulders and spread them wide.
Kyra flinched at his biting words as the pain in her chest increased. His words were insulting, but he did not understand. He could never understand.
They did not grow up the same way so he could never understand why she was this way. He was the son of an alpha, and he was born with an alpha wolf. She was the first daughter of an alpha, and she was born with a weak wolf and her father despises her, so she never got any solid training except for the basic ones every werewolf had to undergo before getting their wolf.
They couldn't compare; she couldn't tell him any of that right now. She would not even tell him on a normal day. It was her secret and shame.
“I'm sorry if you think I was being disobedient by not returning the slap, but I will make sure to obey you next time. I will learn to stand up for myself so as not to bring shame to you.”
“You already brought shame to my pack!” He growled, still staring deeply into Kyra's eyes that were filled with fear.
“I’m sorry if I did that. It wasn't intentional. I promise to change and do better. Alpha Dalton, you need to calm down now because at this rate the… ahhhh!” A loud scream of dread tore through Kyra’s throat when the carriages swerved again and her body was picked up and thrown against the door which immediately fell open.
Kyra used her hand to wrap around her stomach to prevent her belly from hitting the ground and killing her baby. She was not sure if she would survive from being thrown off a fast moving carriage but the first thing that came to her mind was the need to protect her child the way her father never protected her all her life.
She closed her eyes as she prepared herself for the impact of the fall, but her body was suddenly suspended midair as a hand wrapped around her, and she was yanked against a strong, solid and muscular body.
Kyra wasted no time in also holding on to this person who was her savior and burying her face in his chest. She heard the loud bang as the door was closed and then suddenly, everywhere was quiet.
“Kyra? Kyra? Are you okay?”
She could hear a loud and familiar voice screaming her name over her head, but she was feeling dizzy from being thrown away and yanked back, Kyra felt like she was going to collapse. She had been very close to the gates of hell just now and to still be alive and safe at this moment was still unbelievable.
“Kyra, look at me!” A strong finger came under her jaw to tilt her face up. “Open your eyes now, you are safe.”
Was she really? She could not feel any pain and this voice was familiar so maybe she was still in the land of the living.
Kyra slowly opened her eyes and came face to face with Anton. His eyes had returned from the gold color of his wolf's to their dark human color.
She slowly looked around when she was unable to feel any movement and discovered that the carriage had stopped moving. She could hear voices coming from outside.
Anton had gained back the power of his body, and now he was staring down at her when something akin to fear. No, it was fear she could see in his eyes, his body was practically vibrating with it.
“Kyra, talk to me.”
Anton was trying to get through to her, but she kept looking at him in a daze. This man just saved her life for the third time after endangering it. Her emotions concerning this fact were very much complicated.
She did not know what made him snap out of his head, but she could not boldly say that it was because he saw her falling off the carriage and knew that she would surely die or was that it? Did he come back to his senses because of her?
“Kyra!”
From the side of her eyes, she could see the door of the carriage being thrown open, and she could hear loud voices of both men and women as they spoke loudly.
She was still alive! She was not dead! Her baby was fine because they were saved at the last minute.
Tears filled Kyra's eyes, and soon they began to roll down her cheeks as she burst into loud cries, the force of it shaking her small frame.
“Shh, don't cry. You are fine now, you are fine!”
Kyra could feel herself being gathered into a warm embrace, a big hand was slowly rubbing her back up and down as a soothing voice whispered words of comfort to her.
She was still very much alive.
