A New Horizon
The sun had barely begun to rise over the Arabian desert when Eva was already awake, her eyes bright with an excitement that seemed to fill the entire room. She leaned against the window, watching the golden light spill through the curtains, casting long shadows across the luxurious suite. Her thoughts were already racing, her heart pounding with the thrill of the day ahead.
Finn, still groggy, lay sprawled across the bed, his messy hair falling over his forehead. His eyes fluttered open, and he smiled at the sight of her standing by the window, the soft morning light wrapping around her like a halo. He stretched lazily, propping himself up on one elbow.
"Good morning," he murmured, his voice thick with sleep, watching her with that familiar look of admiration. The way she looked, even at the start of the day, made him feel like the luckiest man alive.
She turned to him, her smile radiant but somehow tinged with the kind of intensity that made Finn sit up a little straighter.
"Good morning, Finn," she said and moved toward the closet, pulling out a sharp, tailored dark charcoal-gray suit with crisp lines and a perfect fit. She handed it to him without a word.
"We’re going to Burj Al Arab today. I have a meeting, and I want you to accompany me," she said, her tone abrupt, almost businesslike.
Finn blinked in surprise. He wasn’t sure how to react. Was she serious? She wanted him to go with her to a meeting? His first instinct was to protest, but he didn’t want to seem ungrateful.
"Wait, what? Burj Al Arab? Seriously?" he asked, a bit taken aback.
"You’re bringing me to a business meeting? But I—"
Eva didn’t look at him, her focus entirely on the stack of files she was hastily sorting through. She rifled through them, her movements quick and efficient, her concentration intense.
"There’s no time to waste," she said, not looking up as she shuffled more papers into her briefcase. "I’m shifting to our next destination right after. There’s a meeting, and you’re coming with me. That's final."
Finn’s mouth opened in surprise. "Wait, what? Me? In the meeting?" he repeated, still trying to make sense of it all. He glanced at the suit in his hands, unsure of what to do with it. He wasn’t part of her business—he never had been.
He took a tentative step forward, his brow furrowing. "Eva, I don’t think I belong in there. I can stay here in the room. You know, you don’t have to bring me along. You’ve got everything under control."
But she didn’t pause. Her hands moved with purpose as she secured her briefcase. She looked at him, her expression serious, her eyes sharper than the night before. Finn sensed a change—a shift in her demeanor that he couldn’t quite place. She seemed distant, her usual warmth replaced by something a little more... focused, more driven.
"No, you’re coming. That’s final," she said, her voice firm, without any trace of the playful flirtation from the night before.
Finn stood there, staring at her, trying to process it.
This wasn’t the Eva he had been with last night—the fun, carefree woman who had shared a magical, seductive moment with him. This was the Eva he had heard about—the one who ran things, who didn’t have time for distractions, the professional powerhouse.
For a moment, he hesitated, wondering if this was the stress of work talking. Maybe the pressure of this deal had caused her to act differently.
Still, the shift in her tone made him feel small—like he was somehow an afterthought in the whirlwind of her business. But, as much as he wanted to pull back and retreat to the safety of his own space, he knew better than to argue.
Eva was not a woman who liked to be told no. Besides, there was something about her certainty that made him pause. He was her partner in this adventure, wasn’t he? Maybe he was meant to be by her side for more than just the fun moments.
"I can stay out of the way," he said finally, his voice softer now. "But I’ll go."
She nodded sharply, a flicker of gratitude flashing in her eyes, but it was quickly masked by her determination.
"Good," she replied, gathering the rest of her papers. "I need you there. Let’s go."
Finn dressed quickly, pulling on the suit she had given him, trying to adjust to this new reality.
As he buttoned the jacket, he realized just how little he knew about what was going on with Eva. The woman he knew from their shared adventures, the one who had opened his eyes to a new world, was still there—but today, she was all business. It was a side of her he hadn’t seen before, and it left him both intrigued and slightly anxious.
