Chapter 34
When Eric woke up, he found himself tied to a chair in a dark room with only one dim light in the center providing illumination. It was like a scene from a mafia movie and this time Eric was the captive. He could tell there were other people in the room with him even though he couldn’t see them. His werewolf senses were on high alert, and he could smell his captors—about six of them, standing around him in the shadows.
“I have a question to ask you and I would appreciate it if you could answer me sincerely, so that we don’t waste each other’s time here,” a voice said in front of him. It was an unfamiliar male voice, but Eric did not mistake the promise of violence that it carried.
“Who are you?” he asked.
“I ask the questions around here,” the man in the shadows replied. “You answer the questions. Get it?”
Eric said nothing.
“Who is the Alpha of your clan?” the man asked.
“The who?” Eric asked, masking his surprise quickly.
A fist came out of the nowhere, hitting Eric in the jaw. His head snapped sideways from the impact of the blow.
“I will ask you one more time and if you give me the wrong answer again, I will put a bullet in your skull, bury you in the woods and find another one of your kind and continue the process until I find the one I’m looking for,” the faceless man said.
As if to buttress his threat, the barrel of a gun appeared in the light, aimed at Eric’s forehead. “I know what you are, Eric Brown. All of you with colors for last names are werewolves. My partner and I have done extensive research about your kind spanning two decades, so before you try to bullshit me with your stupid questions, think carefully or those may be your last words. Now, I ask again, who is the Alpha of your clan?”
Eric could tell that this faceless fellow had an idea about the existence of werewolves, but he clearly didn’t know much else about them, otherwise he would know that there was more than one Alpha in the clan.
“There are many Alphas in the clan,” Eric said plainly. “If you don’t know that, then you will end up killing whomever you’re looking for before you find them.”
The gun clicked, indicating that the handler was probably getting ready to pull the trigger, but instead, he lowered it and it disappeared back into the darkness.
“Not the answer I was expecting, but promising nonetheless,” the man in the shadows said. “So then, who is the leader of the pack?”
“I thought you were interested in knowing the leader of the clan?” Eric asked.
“What’s the difference?”
“A clan is made up of different packs. Get it?”
“I see. So, who is the leader of the clan?”
“Shoot me,” Eric said without hesitation. He would rather die than lead these blood thirsty maniacs to Gary.
“Impressive. Wolves are known to be very loyal animals and I can see now that that trait extends to werewolves as well.”
Eric remained silent. His mind was made up—he would endure the pain and torture and even die, but he would never give up his boss.
“You are more useful to me alive than dead, but if you force me, I will kill you and as many of your kind as I find until I get to your leader.”
Eric shrugged. “I believe you, so go ahead and start with me.”
Without warning, a gunshot rang out in the dark, echoing loudly in the scantily occupied room. The unexpected blast caught Eric by surprise, and he sat still, wondering what direction it had come from. It took him a couple of seconds to finally realize that he had been shot.
