CHAPTER SIXTY-THREE; HELPING ARTEMIS
\-JAMIE-
I stared at my phone, the Artemis message staring right at me. She had never sent me a text after all that had happened five years ago; it was weird to get something like that today.
“Can I see you by 4 PM?”
Though I had a meeting with my father, I could always skip that and blame it on the traffic or some congestion in me. For her to have messaged me, she had to be in a great deal of danger, or she wanted to make things clear between us.
We had barely spoken after I had broken up the kiss at the church. I really didn’t want to, but I couldn’t cause a fight between Alexander and her just because she was in a bad mood.
How I loved her scent.
Dad had forgotten about his withdrawal and had gotten me back in the company. He still warned me about having anything to do with the Mercedes, but then I had to move in secret.
He has planted a personal driver and assistant for me just to monitor my movement, but I care less about it. They were scared of me, almost running with just a word from my mouth.
I loved how they feared me, always answering to me even though the chairman had been the one who gave out orders.
It had been tempting at first to kick them out and face the wrath, but then they were humans just like me. Would be cruel for them to lose their source of income.
3:36, the time stared at me as I woke up from the land of thoughts. I grabbed my car keys, walking out of the office the next minute. The assistant walked up to me, trying to remind me of my schedule.
“Sit back; the company needs you.” I let out.
He kept on following, but with the next stomp from my feet, he retreated. He had gulped down his courage, his eyes laid on his desk.
“Also tell the driver that I wouldn’t be needing his services to get to the chairman.”
“But sir.”
“No buts. Just adhere to the instructions.”
The drive to Artemis said location was more bumpy and tricky than the usual. She claimed she was being watched an there was only one perfect spot that she felt safe in.
It was a bar, filled with miscreant nobles who had no job but to squander money on Alcohol and get themselves ladies who would go on an all nighter with them.
I walked into the bar, my head held up high as I searched the room for traces of Artemis.
All I could see was hallway naked ladies walking around with men and some strippers pulling off some moves on the poles.
“What about a quickie?” A lady walked up to me, her hands rubbing my flap.
“I’m not interested.” I gave her a cold glare.
“You’re no fun.” She whispered, rubbing her ass against my flap before leaving.
“Jamie!” Artemis voice penetrated my ears. “Over here Jamie.” She let out.
I walked past the b*thes who kept turning their asses at me, finally getting to the bar stand where Artemis sat. I grabbed a stool next to her, ordering some cocktail for the take.
“So why did you decide to see me Artemis.” I asked.
“The things is… I’m being hunted down Jamie. I don’t know who to tell except you.” She said.
“What happened to Alexander? Did the both of you fall out of love.”
Her eyebrows furrowed for a bit before she continued speaking. “Alexander can’t help me at the moment.”
I tilted my head, staring into her eyes in an attempt to make her confess. Her eyes glowed under the blue light as she kept the stare on, not saying a word.
“I have no idea who the person is but I’ve been given a 48 hours radius to leave the position of heiress.”
“What’s the threat?”
“He said at the end of 48 hours I’ll lose my life and there I am with 2 hours left. I don’t know what to do Jamie.” Her face went all gloomy, she was worried that she would have to leave her status.
I could understand the feeling although I have never been threatened by anyone except my father.
“What should I do Jamie? I need help.”
“Its okay, we’ll figure something out before 6PM.” I grabbed a shot of cocktail gulping it down my throat.
“I’m still worried about all this Jamie. Bella vowed to destroy me and this is her best plan yet. She killed Catherine Jamie, her blood sister. She’ll kill me without thinking twice. I am her obstacle and she will stop at nothing to get past me.”
Bella being a manipulator had her ways around almost everything. She made sure she could eliminate and seduce man she wanted at will. I could tell from our months of dating that she was stronger than she looked. A master of manipulation.
“You’ve been such a good help to me after Catherine died. I’m sorry I misjudged you. I should have looked closer to see the real Jamie.
“I’ve always been the cold bastard every lady would curse on sight. I still regret it till today but what can I say. It’s all good.”
“You know, I always wondered what our child would have looked like if I hadn’t had a miscarriage.” She said. Her lips unwavering as she spoke.
“I’ll always be there for you.”
“So how do you plan on helping me stop this?” She uttered.
“This place isn’t safe. Fight happens and the cops wouldn’t be able to save us if anything happens.” I took the last gulp before grabbing her hand.
“So you’re saying we should run?” Her eyes shone as she stared at me.
I couldn’t give her any assurance on what was to come. I knew not about the people chasing after her or sending death threats but I had to do this. I was the least I could do after putting her though hell.
The bar went silent all of a sudden, the ladies finding their way onto other men’s laps. There at the entrance stood three men in cow boy uniform
“Artemis Mercedes, I know you’re in there.”
