Chapter 9 9
ADRIANA CROSS
I was in a complete frenzy throughout the day. I still had no idea what Naya meant by everyone was going to die, but it scared me. Just when I started asking her so many questions, she went completely mute.
Maya and Gemma gave me a little tour around the pack. The place was beautiful. There were many houses built around each other and I learned the Valequez was funding the town’s highschool. That was the highschool the pack's teenage wolves attend. And I discovered there was a small village for so many pack members deep in the woods. Maya also told me this was the previous Alpha King territory that was destroyed during the attack by Nikola, and then Dimitri rebuilt it fourteen years later after he found surviving wolves. There was also a quarters for witches here, and an ancient witch cemetery at the West borders.
I took a sip from my apple juice, awaiting a response from Zoey after sending her a text. I couldn't wait for Dimitri to get back, so I'd visit her.
I was about to send Dimitri a text when I felt a powerful wave of energy sweep through me. It was dark and magical. Dark magic.
Before I could take a breath, there was a loud sound of an explosion coming from outside. I jumped to my feet at the same time as Gemma, hurrying to the front of the mansion, when Maya and a guy I met, Caden, rushed inside. He was Dimitri's Delta and third in command as I was told.
Behind him was a large number of women, young children, and the elderly.
“What's happening?” I asked no one in particular, but Caden's worried eyes met mine.
“The pack is under attack,” He turned to Maya and a few warriors. “We’re getting the women and children into the underground basement, and you'll go with them. I've alerted the Alpha already, and he's on his way. Almost all the witches attended the meeting, so right now, we are basically on our own. I promise the warriors will keep you safe, nothing is going to happen to you,”
Maya tried to take my hand and lead me to the basement with the others, but instead, I stepped closer to Caden. “Who sent them?” I knew the answer already. It could only be one person who could do something like this already, but I needed to confirm it. The dark magic infecting the air felt so familiar.
“Nikola Vladimir, he sent his rogue army and I think a few witches too. They are trying to get past the borders, I'm hoping we could hold them for a while—” Caden words were cut off, and it seemed like someone was mind-linking him. “Fuck! They came with some witches and have somehow broken through the boundary spells. They've gotten past the borders,” He ordered the warriors to take me to the basement, but I shook my head.
“No, I'll fight as well,” As the words left my lips, Maya, Caden, and the few warriors around looked at me like I was completely crazy. Well, I didn't blame them, they all thought I was human. But I couldn't just head to the basement and hope Agatha and Dimitri arrive just in time with more witches and reinforcements.
I knew this was what Naya meant when she said something bad was about to happen, and everyone was going to die. I'd promised Dimitri that I'd help in every way I could just as my mother had helped them, and I intended to keep my promise.
That tragic night fourteen years ago has haunted me all my life. The guilt of watching my family risk their lives to protect me while fighting against Nikola's army of dark witches has always weighed on me. I couldn't help back then, but I could help save these people. Nikola had done so much evil already. He had won the last time, but I swore to the goddess he wouldn't again. Not ever.
“No,” Caden objected, running a hand through his blonde hair. “If something happens to you, we're all doomed and Dimitri will never forgive me. Your safety is our top priority, Luna, Maya will take you to the others and then—”
Before he could finish his sentence, I collected the bow and arrows one of the warriors was holding, sending a glance at Caden. “We could either stand here and argue while Nikola's army kills every one of ours, or we could head outside now and join the fight and hopefully save everyone. That's your choice Caden, but I'm not hiding today. I'll do everything in my power to ensure Nikola's army doesn't leave this territory alive,”
For a second, Maya, Caden, and the warriors stared at me in shock. Thankfully, Maya was the first to recover; she took out a blade that was strapped to her calf, stuck it to my boot, and then turned to Caden.
“She's right. We can either stay here and argue all day or we could go out and fight. If Luna wants to fight, then let her. I'll be by her side, and protect her even with my life,” Maya said.
I sent Maya a smile. I appreciated what she was saying but the plan was not to lose anyone today.
“Fine,” With one nod from Caden, the warriors, Caden, Maya and I rushed out of the mansion, and I almost froze at the sight before us. They were fucking everywhere.
Oh goddess, this was bad. Really bad.
