Chapter 8 8
Chapter 8
ADRIANA CROSS
I woke up to find the other side of the bed empty. And for a second, I thought I imagined it all. But thankfully, it wasn't a dream. Dimitri kissed me, and I kissed him back. Honestly, I didn't know how we survived last night without having sex, even after the hot kiss and sleeping right next to each other. The insane truth was, I was falling for Dimitri Valequez. Hard and fast.
I got out of bed and showered. I was already dressed when I heard a knock on the door. It opened, and a beautiful young woman stepped in with a young girl.
“Hi, we haven't met yet, but I'm Maya; nice to finally meet you,” The woman rushed to me. “Goddess you're so beautiful. Dimitri definitely got lucky,”
Maya introduced the other girl as Gemma, and she would be helping me with whatever I needed. I also found out Maya and Dimitri's beta, Allen, were mates. I could tell from the way her eyes sparkled every time she mentioned him. It reminded me of how my father always looked at my mother, Esther. They were also mates.
And now just the thought of my mother reminded me of everything Dimitri had told me last night. Everything made sense now. I remembered the curse on the wolves and how Mother was helping to free them. Regardless of my wolf being bound, I was also part of the curse, but that wasn't the only reason I would help them. On the night of the massacre fourteen years ago, after I felt my sister and mother's magic transfer to me after their deaths, I also heard my mother's voice, and her last words were, “You are their last hope”.
I had always wondered what those words meant, but now I knew. Dimitri was always meant to find me, and I'd help him break Asula's curse in every way I could.
Maya, Gemma, and I were headed downstairs for breakfast when Sabrina met us in the hallways. Her eyes were fixed on me as she said.
“I heard you were attacked yesterday. I'm sorry you got hurt,” But her eyes didn't seem a bit sorry.
“I also heard it's because you sent a fake text to me in Dimitri's name. But it's all good, thankfully, my husband came to save me just in time,” I smiled at the anger that was now burning in her eyes. Her lips parted to speak, but I didn't want to hear her response so I walked away with Maya and Gemma.
“That was nice to watch,” Maya chuckled. “Sabrina had had it coming for years. She thinks because she fucks Dimitri she's it, it's good to see someone put her in her place,”
I felt my stomach churn at Maya’s words, and I began to wonder about the possibility of Sabrina being Dimitri's mate. Was that why she hated me?
Dimitri, Allen, and a few others had remained in his office, and they didn't come down for breakfast. I was standing on the balcony of our bedroom when I felt Dimitri's presence next to me. I hadn't even heard him walk in.
Before I could say something, he pressed his lips against mine, kissing me and I kissed him back. It was surprising how he was beginning to feel like a real marriage. I just wondered if he felt the same way as I did.
“I have a meeting to attend, so I'll be out for the rest of the day,” He whispered against my lips. “Will you be okay?”
I nodded. “Yeah. The people here are nice. But I have to go and see Zoey. I spoke to her earlier and promised I'd come see her,”
“I'll take you once I get back,” He kissed me again. “I'll see you soon,”
“Me too,” I bit out, watching him leave. And then, I felt the familiar presence that stirred deep within my soul. My wolf, Naya. I glanced at the ruby bracelet around my wrist. I shouldn't feel her as long as I wore the bracelet. What was happening?
“Naya, how is this possible—”
“It’s because of him, but that's not important right now,” Her voice became serious. “Something bad is about to happen, Adriana. And they are all going to die,”
What?
DIMITRI VALEQUEZ
It was next to impossible to keep Adriana out of my mind. Goddess, she had warmed her way into my heart and had slowly become the center of my thoughts.
I couldn't deny it anymore. I loved that woman, and I was willing to make her mine for the rest of my life.
I shook out of my thoughts, bringing my attention to the small circle that formed around me.
We were all gathered at the usual meeting place in one of the halls in one of my hotels. Almost every representative from every supernatural kind that survived the massacre fourteen years ago was present.
We had begun making preparations for the upcoming war against Nikola. Every kingdom has mobilized warriors who have started training. Agatha and the witches were also going to help, and that would be an added advantage, seeing that Nikola also had dark witches working for him. These witches had somehow done something to the rogue army working for Nikola, and somehow, they were no longer affected by the curse.
After the meeting with the heads of other kingdoms, they all left, leaving just Agatha, Allen, and I.
“Did you find the witch you mentioned? Does she know where Esther's daughter might be?” I asked Agatha.
“I found Calisto, and fortunately, I was able to get a few belongings of Esther we could use to find her daughter. We did a location spell—”
“And?” I leaned forward. “Did you find Esther's daughter?”
“No,” She shook her head. “Unfortunately, she's heavily cloaked. Every spell we did led to a dead end,”
“Could she be dead?” I couldn't help but ask. It was a possibility we never considered because it would mean the end for us.
“She's alive. If she was dead, we would have known through the spells. The last living Halo witch from the Blackrose bloodline is still out there, and something tells me we'll find her when the time is right,” Agatha said. “And how about your mate, Adriana?”
“I told her the truth. And thankfully she took it so well,” I leaned into my chair. “But she's been through a lot. I don't want her to get hurt because of me,”
“She won't. She's destined to be your perfect half all you have to do is stop fighting your fate,”
I was about to say something when I felt the restlessness of my wolf, Ryker. Something was wrong.
“Ryker, what's going on?”
“Something's wrong,” He said, and suddenly I felt a sharp pain deep in my chest. “Mate is in danger!” He growled, eyes glowing golden. “She's dying!”
