Chapter 12

DIMITRI VALEQUEZ

“Adriana!” I released a growl that shook through the ground. More blood kept gushing out from her stomach. Her once pristine skin was now pale, and black veins appeared on her skin. She was barely breathing, and her heartbeat was so fucking weak, scaring Ryker and me.

“Allen, get the pack doctor, now!” I mindlinked Allen, taking my mate in my arms. “Agatha!” I glanced around for the witch, but I couldn't find her. She and Gwen must have gone after the dark witch, and by the moon, I hope they caught her because someone had to pay for what had happened to Adriana.

I raced back to the mansion, placing my mate on our bed. Thankfully, the pack doctor, Margie, was already waiting for us.

“We need to undress her and take a look at her wounds,” Margie said, and I shook my head.

“Do what you have to do, I'm not leaving my mate's side,” I couldn't leave her side. I needed to be next to Adriana.

“Alpha, you should leave. You being here will only distract us,” Agatha strolled in with Gwen. “Margie and I will take good care of her. Nothing is going to happen to her,”

Reluctantly, I let go of Adriana's hand. We couldn't waste more time arguing, and I needed to check up on the warriors and assess the situation of my pack.

I left the bedroom to see Allen and Caden waiting for me outside.

“How's the warriors? Please tell me we didn't lose any of our men,” I walked out of the mansion and the bodies of rogues had already been cleared out.

“None. Some sustained a few injuries, and others were severe, but they are in the infirmary. They'll survive though,”

Relief flooded me at Allen's words. “Thank the goddess. How's Maya doing, she was badly injured?”

“All healed up,” Allen responded again.

I stopped walking, shifting my gaze to Caden who'd been quiet. “What the hell happened Caden? Adriana was supposed to be with the others in the basement. Why was she at the pack's borders?” I had so many questions, regarding what I saw her do. She killed a rogue without even touching him. Almost like the work of magic, but Adriana couldn't be a witch. She smelled completely human.

“She wanted to fight and there wasn't much we could do to convince her, but what happened today was unexpected. Dimitri, I saw her kill not just one rogue but many with magic. Hell, she saved Maya and I, and many other warriors with magic!” Caden words struck me, and I almost froze.

“He's right. I heard the same thing from other warriors, and Maya also said the same thing. She went to the pack borders to stop the rogues. She's the reason why no one is dead. Our Luna saved us,” Allen added.

It was one thing to suspect something, and another to discover it was true. Fuck. Adriana Cross was a witch.

“What do we do now?”

“Nothing. We wait till she wakes up. She must have had her reasons for not saying anything, and we didn't exactly give her a reason to trust us at first. The most important thing right now is that she wakes up,” And to the goddess, I hope she does.

“She will,” Ryker's voice echoed at the back of my mind. “Our mate is strong, and I know she'll survive. And when she does, let's hope to the goddess she'll trust us enough with the truth,”

My brows furrowed. “What do you mean, Ryker,”

“When we held her in our arms, bleeding. I felt something. Some sort of connection with her. It was as if something within her was calling out to us. I think mate’s hiding something else, but unfortunately, we have to wait and hope she tells us herself,”

Just then, Margie mindlinked me, requesting my presence. I left the guys, rushing to my room. To my disappointment, Adriana was still unconscious on the bed. The pack doctor's assistants, Margie and Gwen had left the room, leaving just Agatha.

“What's wrong?” I stepped closer to Adriana's unconscious body, inspecting her wounds and to my relief, it was healed. Agatha must have accelerated her healing, but why wasn't she waking up? I spared a glance to the witch. “You helped accelerate her healing right? She's healed and seems completely fine, so why isn't she waking up?”

“That's why we called for you,” Agatha spoke first. “I didn't heal Luna; surprisingly, as Margie was tending to her wounds, she healed up on her own. It happened so fast,”

“What?” I glanced back at Adriana's beautiful sleepy form. “That can't be possible. Even a witch can't heal so fast,”

“A witch?” Now Agatha was the one lost. I gathered she hadn't heard the stories yet so I quickly filled her in.

“Yes. Adriana is a witch. She was at the border to stop the rogue army with a spell, and she saved everyone,” I summarized.

There was a flash of an unfamiliar emotion in Agatha's eyes. I couldn't read her reaction, but her sharp gaze lingered on Adriana for a second, worry and fear etched in her features.

“No. This simply can't be,” She said, confusing me.

“Care to fill me in?”

“Not now. We don't have the time. This is more serious than I thought,” Agatha rushed to the bed, pulling down the covers and the black veins that were on Adriana were still there. “That witch did something to her, and Adriana's life is in danger. She's trapped in her own nightmare. The longer she stays there, the faster the poison spreads, and the higher the chances of her not making it out alive,” Agatha's eyes met mine. “Dimitri, you're her only hope right now. And if what you said about her being a witch is true then Adriana is everything we've been looking for, and she needs us,”
