Chapter 11

DIMITRI VALEQUEZ

Ryker was restless and the insane feeling of dread filled me. I had shifted to my wolf and was already on my way to the pack with the warriors and witches who attended the meeting today, but I was agitated. It'd been almost ten minutes since my Delta Caden had called to inform us of the attack. Nikola was at it again, he was out to wipe out every one of our kind and the others, but I swear to the goddess, he wouldn't succeed this time.

I wished I hadn't attended today's meeting and stayed in the pack instead. I should have been by Adriana's side, protecting her. Protecting my people. Only the goddess knew I wouldn't be able to handle it if something happened to her.

Ryker raced faster through the mountains, sprinting into the forest. This was the fastest route there was to my pack, the Crescent Moon Pack. Soon I crossed through the East side borders of the pack, racing towards the mansion. A few rogue wolves attacked me, but I sank my claws deep into its neck, slicing it open. I lunged at the second wolf, using my canines to tear out its insides.

I turned to continue towards the mansion when I felt the movements behind me. To my horror, the rogue wolves I had just killed had reawakened from their deaths. Their eyes were as dark as midnight, and the color of blood dripping from them was black.

This wasn't possible. What the hell was happening?

Ryker took his stance to fight when they were positioned to attack, but suddenly, they were lifted from the ground and tossed against a far tree, and the next thing I heard was the snapping of necks.

I glanced behind me to see Agatha and another witch, Gwen, stepping out of the woods together with Allen and some warriors that were behind me.

“What in the name of the goddess are those?” I shifted back to my human form, wearing the short Allen passed me.

“No longer human. They've been spelled by dark magic and cannot be killed easily. The only chance we have now is to get to the main pack borders with one of these and disrupt the dark magic in them. It'll make them mortal once again, and they can definitely be killed,” Agatha said, inspecting the body of one of the rogue wolves.

“These things are everywhere. You have to hurry Agatha. Adriana is in danger, Ryker can feel it. I have to find Adriana,” I couldn't think straight. I needed to see Adriana and make sure she was okay.

Ryker’s anxiety was growing by the second and I was slowly losing it as well.

“We'll head there now, Alpha,” Agatha nodded, taking the narrow path in the woods.

At Agatha's words, I dashed through the woods with my nonhuman speed, racing towards the mansion trailing Adriana's scent.

I could already see the mansion at a near distance when I got a whiff of Adriana's scent. But it wasn't coming from the mansion but from the main borders of the pack's territory.

“The pack borders? That's dangerous. What is she doing there?” Ryker almost growled at the back of my mind, wanting to take full control but I fought him.

“Keep still, Ryker,” I couldn't think of any reason why Adriana would be at the borders right now during an attack. She was supposed to be in the underground basement of the mansion. The only possible explanation was something had happened.

I couldn't stop the fear that suddenly tightened my chest, even Ryker felt it. I followed her scent to the pack borders only to find warriors of the Crescent Moon Pack surrounded by Nikola Vladimir’s rogue armies. I could see Caden and Maya fighting alongside other warriors, and as I glanced around, I found Adriana in the middle of this bloodbath.

She was on her knees next to an unmoving rogue body. It seemed almost dead, but I could hear the faint beating of the rogue's heart. It was still alive.

Adriana’s eyes were closed, as she kept muttering words in a familiar foreign language that was similar to that of the witches. Right before my eyes, I watched her mutter some unfamiliar words, and the heart of the unmoving rogue jumped out of its chest.

Almost at once, every Nikola rogue army dropped dead to the ground.

“What the hell just happened?” Ryker queried in shock and confusion. “Did she just… Did mate just…”

“She killed him without even touching him. Adriana, she…” I could barely finish my thoughts when I sniffed out an intruder. A fucking witch.

Swiftly, my gaze narrowed on a woman dressed in a black cloak hiding behind a tree. Her gaze was fixed on Adriana and Adriana on hers.

An ominous smile appeared on the witch's lips as she muttered something. It happened so fast; one second, I was racing towards Adriana, and the next, a strong invisible force slammed into my mate, sending her against a tree.

I managed to catch her before she crashed against the ground but to my horror, she was unconscious. Her body grew terrifyingly cold and the white tank top she was wearing was now soaked in her blood.

“No, No!” I pulled her tighter. “Adriana!” I couldn't feel her pulse, and black lines began to appear on her skin, spreading fast. It didn't look good.
