Chapter 85 What Omegas do
Chapter 85 What Omegas do
Evyths brows furrowed, her lips parted slightly.
“Failed?” She repeated. “But you saw it all, the antidure revived Alpha Ryker the other time. How can this be?”
Adler shook his head, his fingers drumming against the cup of ale before him.
“We can't tell. King Belmont has done his part, our relatives have been healed almost immediately but my mother,” he inside deeply. “Something is amiss.” He explained to her, keeping his expression vacant enough not to appear weak.
“What do you think? King Belmont’s antidote failed the Luna?” Evyths questioned with a sharp look.
“Quite the contrary. That is why we have you, perhaps the goddess could tell you why the Luna still suffer cruel torture…” this time, his tone came out cold. Resentment in it.
Evyths leaned back, not sure what else to tell Adler. Lately, everyone seemed to friend on her for everything that concerned the goddess even if she knew fully that the goddess wasn't easy to reach.
The expectations were high, so were assumptions about the goddess.
“Should I visit your mother then? I was hoping that she must have gotten better once I visited.” Evyths tone dropped.
“Maybe you should. Although she's not spoken to anyone for years.” Adler informed, her eyes slowly widening. “Yes. Not me. Not even the king. She believes that the goddess's avatar would save her,”
Evyths scoffed. “Save her? I am no healer, Alpha…”
“But you restore… right?” His gaze lingered on her as Evyths looked away.
Did he find out that she saved the vampire’s king? Was he going to make her do it? Evyths wondered.
“You should be able to. It is written in the books, the avatars carry—”
“Wait!” She cut in. Something ckivkef instantly. The book she had read last night hinted at a prophecy and because she didn't know how to read fluently, she had no idea what the words that came after meant.
Adler cocked a brow. “Do you know something?”
“Do you have the book with you?”
Adler nodded. “Yeah but I left it in your room.” He offhandedly said before he thought about it. “Hold on, you found the book on the shelf, didn't you?”
“As bad as it seems, I cannot read fluently. I may have dipped at some point.” She admitted, forcing milk dodn her throat.
“Fluently?” He seemed surprised. “Dues that mean you know how to read a little?”
Evyths hesistated then nodded, worried that he would not laugh.
However, Adler didn't. He was at a loss for words.
“That is… impressive.” He admitted too, earning her faint smile. “I could help with that.” He suggested as he rose, offering a hand.
Evyths rose too, skeptical, as she placed her hand in his, helping her down the gazebo. They walked slowly, making their way out of the high garden..
“What is the book about?”
“Reigns. Kings. Prophecies.” He snapped like it didn't hold a deep meaning.
“Are they true?” Evyths' searching gaze made Adler think for a second before replying.
“They have come and gone, some are yet to come while some are… happening now.” He said, allowing her to absorb the information that seemed to affect her somehow.
He noticed how curious she had been about the book, her questions and then what he was saying. Yet, he strongly believed that Evyths held the key to something that Davendale was yet to uncover. A solution to the kingdom's problems. Final healing to his mother, the Luna.
“Come, we should meet my father and discuss further.”
Evyths exhaled in and out, the lingering smell of dried me meat, earth's crust, and fresh twigs hung in the air. Enforcers in uniforms, their heavy footsteps made the walls vibrate subtly, marching and singing a victory song.
Evyths and Adler sat in the large war room, awaiting King Leon. Meanwhile, Evyths eyes scampered the items on the wall besides the torches on each corner to illuminate the room,, swords, extinct animal tusks, arrows and spears—anything that specified a eon battle hung freely as reminder of Davendale’s strength.
Adler, meanwhile, had been watching her carefully, his gaze followed her every move like he needed to protect them. As if he needed to catch her had she tried to fall.
To Evyths, she was just amused by beauty but to him, too many things ran through his mind.
Evyths was different — to different.
“Oh, there you are!” The Alpha King’s voice echoed, reaching them before his footsteps did.
Evyths and Adler stood and bowed. Leon acknowledged, before sitting on the head table. And someone Evyths had never seen sat on his left hand side.
“Pardon my tardiness. The kingdom's bleeding coals and lava…” Leon merely said like it meant nothing. But not to Evyths or even Adler whose jaw tightened upon hearing that.
“Bleeding?” Adler asked.
“Yes, boy.” Leon leaned on a hand, staring at them. A small smile on his.lios that barely lasted two seconds.
“Evyths, meet my beta and best friend, Oakley.” Leon's eyes shifted to the dehse looking manner with scary tattos across his face. “Oak, meet the goddess's avatar. Who brings redemption to Davendale…”
While Adler smirked in response, Evyths gave a small bow.
“Pleaded to meet you, Sir.” Her smile was controlled.
Not that she was scared of Oakley given the intensity of his looks, but because she didn't trust.
“I do not trust her,”
“The feeling is mutual.. “ Evyths blurted before she could control it. She could have sworn that she said that to herself. Only.
Leaving everyone baffled, yet it was one thing that stood out for Adler, the way that she carried herself.
Not as weakness, just an Omega or a female but as someone with different pedigree and fearlessness.
Not even Evyths understood how and when she got too bold to speak, especially to the same people who used to break her spirit.
When the silence lingered a little too long, the king continued.
“Evyths, you are joining us to today and for the first time, I see you… differently. The goddess never makes mistakes…” Leon said calmly yet his pride stamped on his voice like an imprint.
Evyths wished that he was right about the mistakes the goddess never makes. However, whu did she choose Ryker as her mate when it clearly was a mistake to her? Evyths thought for a split second.
“We will not go into full details today because it is your first day and you may need it to properly unwind. But…” Leon's voice continued echoing. “my kingdom needs a guide. Recently, other packs from neighboring cities threatened to wage war over territory on the northeast side of Davendale…”
“Sorry but do you mean Meadow Hill Pack?” Evyths gently cut in curiously.
The king first stopped, narrowing his gaze at her, baffled that she knew and then he continued. “Did Adler tell you that?”
She shook her head slightly. “I read the maps. Just things I could decipher…” she said, her tone light.
“Oh. Right.” Leon said in realization.
Oakley scoffed, his frown even thicker. “An Omega who reads. Isn't that interesting, my king?!”
“Ah, Oak, she's well traveled and so she caught a thing or two from a room like this…” Leon sarcastically said to Oakley who didn't want to keep shut.
“However, Meadow Hill Pack sent us a missive earlier this week. They claim that the waterfall dividing both kingdoms is theirs…”
“Cunts! We have protected that waterfall for centuries, cannot be theirs. Hell, it supplies water through our streams.” Adler chimed in politely too.
“My point exactly, boy.” Leon agreed, now leaning forward, his gaze shifted to all three of them. “Which is why we must deliberate very quickly.” now his gaze shifted specifically to Evyths. “Time had never been on our side.”
The room fell quiet, the weight of the situation hung intensely above them.
Evyths drew her fingers over her thighs, her thoughts reeling.
What truly was her role in all of this?
She could fight or strategize a war like them, and so what really did the goddess call her tone asides carrying a title as heavy as the Goddess's Avatar?
“Evyths, has the goddess spoken to you yet?” The king asked almost impatiently.
What she feared, to look incompetent.
“N-not yet…” she said.
“Please spear my head, your majesty, but Davendale doesn't need THIS to fight a war that requires armies, strategy and strength. If she cannot year from the goddess, she might as well be useless to us—always been.” Oakley stated firmly, his gaze heavily on Evyths.
What he said didn't move her like he thought, it only challenged but he did not know.
When Leon attempted to interfere, Adler signalled him not to. Not yet.
He understood Evyths and what she was capable of doing.
Leon backed off, believing his son's judgement.
Leon rose to leave. “I shall leave now. I have a meeting with some the elders and I require our mutual understanding henceforth.”
They all rose and bowed as Leon left with the royal guards behind him.
When Oakley’s gaze landed on Evyths again, he let out a humorless laugh. One meant to mock her and what she stands for.
“I knew it. I knew it all…” he groaned with pride, spreading his arms like he ruled Davendale. “You were nothing but the kingdom's fraud. You don't hear from the goddess, you carry deception on her forehead, Evyths. You aren't touched, an Omega cannot be touched by the goddess, you see. You may have fooled everyone—bowing to you like some ‘god’ against the odds, wearing expensive royal clothing because you've warmed a vampire's bed, and even bewitched him to act a fool, defend you and even lick your stinky feet—I have heard it all. You will not fool me. Oakley Bo.” He paused, standing in front of her.
Leaning towards her, his breath reeling of spoiled meat if she guessed right. “What good can come out of an Omega—your fucking bloodline?” His brows arched, a sinister smirk on her lips.
Evyths did not reply immediately or show an emotion, she simply remained poised. Unblinking.
Evyths took a deep breath, reciprocating the smirk he offered.
“Since you have asked,” she stopped, staring intently at him, making him wonder what on earth an Omega could do to him. “I will show you.”
Evyths' hands started to glow as she spread them. Before Oakley or even Adler could understand what was happening, Evyths' fingers morphed into sharp claws, channeling her rage through them.
With a tight fist, she punched Oakley in the torso as Oakley flew across the roomblike wind, his back hitting the tusks hanging on the wall before landing on his face.
Oakley groaned painfully, struggling to rise again. Evyths walked towards him slowly, her glowing hand balling into a tighter fist.
“You asked what the Goddess's Avatar can do, I'll show you again…” she stated, her tone flat.
Instantly, Evyths punched Oakley in the face before he could draw up a blow. Too fast for him to decipherbher moves.
Oakley groaned again, his front teeth falling off, bleeding through his nose and mouth. Oakley held his nose, not just baffled, but scared that Evyths might just take his life.
Her strength was unmatched.
Evyths yanked his hand away from his nose, his watery gaze meeting hers.
“Just before I leave, I'll leave you a souvenir…”
Like a bolt of lightning, Evyths claws cut across his in right eye, a long vertical line along his face.
Oakley cried out this time, falling to his knees, pleading her mercy while he held his eye.
“Whenever you think of this omega, the God
dess's Avatar, you'll remember the scar that she gave you.”
With that, Evyths straightened herself, walking out of the war room.
Adler remained speechless, numb in his spot.
