Chapter 675 Chapter 675
Deva waited for Calum to hang up the phone. “Do you have a minute?”
He turned and looked at her. “Good work up there.”
She didn’t want to talk about taking off after Taggart. That was the last thing she needed right now. “Thanks. Listen, we just talked to Calla about Zain.”
He cocked his head to the side and focused on her.
“Calla said that Zain told her when she joined the team that he was stuck in the office for his own good.” She motioned to the door. “We think he knows something and is hiding.”
Calum put his hands on his hips. “I’ve thought of that too.”
“I was going to talk to Illias…”
“I sent him to try to sleep. He’s been going for days getting all of this coordinated.”
“Right.” Another aspect she’d never considered was the tech team and what they went through to keep all their communications safe.
“Listen, I’ve sent someone to look for Zain. If anyone can find him, they will. I don’t believe he’s a traitor. I think there’s a lot more to this than any of us know. Shep kept a lot of secrets for many, man
y people, and I believe this is all part of one.” He motioned around the room. “Once we’re all safely where we need to be, I’ll talk to Devin and his mother, maybe Shep shared with his mate.”
Deva nodded. “Okay.” She nodded some more. “The one looking for Zain, they know not to hurt him, right?”
He grinned. “They know not to hurt him.”
She sighed in relief. “Okay.” She looked out the window to see Asher on the phone. “Ash is talking to Foster. If anyone knows a secret place Zain would go, it will be him.”
“Let me know if he does.”
“Yes, I will.” She looked around the room. “How long until we dock?”
“It will probably be dark when we do.”
She tried not to feel disappointed that she’d have to wait that long for a run. “Okay. Is everyone all right? Is there anything I can do?”
“Most are sleeping right now.” He went over to the table and picked up some papers. “You could help with supplies. Start getting some food ready for when they wake up.”
Deva nodded. Having something to do would be better than watching the waves. “I’m glad you found your mom.”
Calum turned and smiled. “Me too. I’m still coming to terms with the fact that it’s real.”
“I guess it is shocking.”
He waved the pages around. “The shocking part is going to be when she’s back to full strength.” He smiled again.
She wasn’t sure what that meant but didn’t want to pry into his business. “I’ll go start prepping some food.”
“Thanks, Deva. Make sure the team members eat something too. We don’t need any antsy animals prowling the deck.”
Deva chuckled. “Imagine what that would look like to another boat going by.”
Calum laughed. “I can see the headlines about a second Noah’s ark or something.”
She watched him go out on the deck and then turned and went downstairs. She had no idea where the supplies were but thought it might not be too hard to locate them. The yacht only had so many rooms.
~
A few minutes later, her assumption was proven wrong. There was a lot more to this boat than she had thought. It was like a floating mansion with more rooms than she had anticipated. The bulk of the people from the island were sprawled in three of the large cabins, either sleeping or just sitting there quietly. She didn’t blame them for not yet believing what had happened.
Glancing into the next open door, she discovered it was a bathroom with a huge tub. Calum’s mother sat on the edge of it, and inside, laying back in the water, was the young girl that Terah had named Willow. She stepped in and kept her voice low. “I’m going to find the supplies and get some food prepped. Can I get either of you anything?”
“I’ll come and get something for us shortly.”
Willow sank down below the water and then came back up again. “The lady gave me something to drink.” She pointed to the bottle of green liquid sitting on the ledge.
“Do you want something else?”
The young girl looked at her, Deva could tell she was thinking about it. “I don’t know what to have.”
“I’ll bring back a few things, and you can pick.” She hoped she wasn’t lying because she had no clue what had been sent.
“Thank you.” Calum’s mom quirked an eyebrow at her. “What’s your name?”
“Deva.”
“That’s lovely. I’m Tesha.”
“I’ll be back shortly, Tesha.” Deva went back out into the hall. It still felt like something was stabbed into her chest when she thought about Willow not having a name. She had to be around nine or ten. Then again, she didn’t know if the water clan grew bigger and faster than other clans. Rolling her eyes at her own thoughts, she huffed out a breath. No child should live that long without being named. It was wrong.
Opening the last door, she was relieved to see stacks of totes. She probably should have looked for a kitchen. Did they stock fresh foods and meat? All of this is why she followed orders and didn’t organize things. Opening the first tote, she came to; she was relieved to see it was juice and primarily drinks. Hefting it off the next one, she set it by the door.
