Chapter 663 Chapter 663

Chapter 663 Chapter 663
When they hit the shore, she was flung forward, and if Taggart hadn’t been standing behind her and grabber her, she would have fallen over the rail.

“Don’t be hero. I no want to have kill every body.” He whispered against the ear that the bud wasn’t in.

She nodded and let go of the rail, and hopped over it. Before she could get ten feet, Calum passed her, and Konner came out of the water onto the shore. Calum tossed a handgun at him, Konner caught it, and with just a quick glance behind him, to see that his mate wasn’t far, he followed Calum into the trees. Later, Deva would think about how fast Terah could swim to go all the way back and still be here with her mate.

“One down,” Calum reported.

Taggart went by her, and Asher followed. He looked at Deva and then glanced back.

Deva turned to see Journee following, and there was no mistaking she was scared to death being back on the island. “Go. I’ve got her.”

“Taggart. We need someone to circle behind the buildings. The other three are standing in the middle of innocents.” Calum reported.

“I be there. Sixty second,” Taggart said in a clipped voice.

Deva waited for Journee to catch up. She hit the comm button so no one else would hear her. “We need to be ready to get the kids to the shore.”

Journee sucked in a breath and then nodded. “I’m okay.” She started walking faster. The holding the gun was shaking. “Being back here…”

“Wait.” Deva reached behind her and pulled the dart gun out of the holster clipped to the back of her pants. “Take this instead. It’s a dart gun. It will knock them out.”

A look of relief came over her. She held out the gun. “Thank you.”

“Let’s go.” Deva hit the comm button again.

“One just took off into the trees behind the building,” Asher reported.

“Does he need to breathe?” Terah asked.

“Uh, it would be good,” Devin said.

“Okay.”

Deva exchanged a look with Journee. She was in the same mindset as her. Terah was some kind of force to reckon with. They cleared the trees, and then both stopped.

“I’m coming now.” Shaelan’s soft voice filled her ear.

“It’s clear,” Calum said. “We’re checking the area on the North side of the buildings.”

“She got him by the neck.” Taggart sounded shocked. “Mister Konner is here now.”

That fast, they had all the men subdued. She was so used to waiting in a transport vehicle that she had never thought about the speed and coordination needed for the ops. Deva walked slowly toward the people standing outside the buildings. She glanced to see Asher had a man on the ground on his face, with his hands bound behind his back. She looked around. She didn’t see the other one but wasn’t worried. Calum wouldn’t have let Shaelan come if there was danger.

“Bringing him back now,” Konner reported.

“Take them to the yacht first while Shaelan checks over everyone else,” Devin reported.

“I can transport some in the dingy.” Amari volunteered.

“We need you on deck watching with Tripp, Amari.” Someone answered, and Deva wasn’t sure who it was.

“On it, Kenzo.”

Deva wondered how many were on the call that just weren’t speaking. Then again, this was a pretty epic moment in the battle they’d been fighting. She turned to see Journee going from person to person and Shaelan following alongside her.

Going over to one of the two buildings, Deva opened the door and looked inside. There were people inside. “It’s safe now. You can come out. We’re here to get you off the island.”  One of the children got up off the floor and gave her a wary look. “We’re the good guys.” She winked at him, and he smiled.

“Oh, my goodness.” An older woman stood up and then looked around. “It’s the Alliance. Everyone. Go outside.”

Deva stepped back outside and looked to see where everyone else was.

“North side cleared,” Calum reported.

“No peoples here.” Taggart sounded like he was running.

“Dehydration mostly, so far, Cal,” Shaelan stated.

“We can get them on IVs when we’re back on the yacht.” He answered.

Deva glanced in to see that the building was empty. She went inside and used the flashlight on her phone to look around. There was no furniture, only some old blankets scattered everywhere. There was nothing anyone would want to take; she decided and went back outside.

The older woman who had spoken stood a few feet away, watching the others. She put her hand to her mouth and stood there for a moment. “You came back.” She whispered. Deva looked to see that she was speaking to Journee.

Journee nodded and had tears running down her face. “I shouldn’t have left everyone here.” She stumbled the last few steps and threw herself at the woman.

“Nonsense. I knew you’d bring back help.” She leaned back and brushed the hair back from Journee’s face. “I’ve never met a more determined girl in my life.”

Journee wiped at her face. “There’s someone…” She stopped talking and looked where the woman was looking.

Deva saw Calum come out of the trees, stop, and stand there. She’d never seen him look the way he was.

“Mom.” He barely spoke above a whisper.

“Oh.” The woman dropped to her knees, her hands over her mouth.
