KRIS:
A light tap on the desk interrupted my nap. I raised my head to see Jake staring down at me with a grin etched on his face.
"You shouldn't be sleeping in the library." He said.
I was happily napping in the library before his stupid ass woke me. Luckily for me, the librarian didn't notice because I was hidden in a corner. I shouldn't be there but I was really tired so I skipped my last class to sleep.
If you're wondering why I was tired, I didn’t know either.
"Thanks for reminding me of the library rules." I rolled my eyes, “What are you, the freaking library police?”
"You're always welcome, baby." He winked before taking the seat next to mine.
"Shouldn't you be in class?" I questioned in annoyance.
"Shouldn't you?" He asked back, smirking.
"Why are you even here?" I narrowed my eyes on him.
"To keep you company."
"I don't need it. As you can see I was faring well before you came along."
"Hmm, seems to me that you were bored to death."
"You guys skipped class too?" We looked up to see Chris a few feet away from us. Getting to us, he slumped into the next vacant seat opposite me.
Great! There goes my nap time. I think I'm gonna place an ad for new friends. I thought to myself.
"What are you doing here?" I asked in annoyance, raising my brows.
"I've attended enough classes for the day. I need a break."
"You had a lunch break." I stared at him in disbelief.
"It wasn't enough. We need two breaks every day. School is not for me." He frowned.
"You should probably drop out," Jake advised.
"I'll take that into consideration," Chris replied, sighing.
We stayed there conversing about unnecessary things till school ended. Immediately the bell went off, Jake stood up to leave.
"See you guys later. I have football practice." He turned to leave but as if he just remembered something, he faced me again.
"Kris, you still up for our date?" He stared at me intently.
"Yeah, sure," I replied and Chris gave me a funny look.
Jake nodded and left. I turned to see Chris still looking at me.
"What?" I snapped.
"You just agreed to go on a date with Jake."
"So?"
"What about Lucian?" He asked accusingly.
"What about him?" I raised my brows.
"Are you kidding me?"
"Look. I know what you're going to say but there's nothing between Lucian and me. We might have kissed once but people do that all the time."
"Really? Have you seen how you both ogle each other?" He looked at me in disbelief.
"Chris! Stop looking at me that way. It's not my fault. Lucian hasn't given me any signal that he wants us to be more than friends and again, Jake asked first and he's a nice guy."
He kept staring at me with raised brows.
"Going on a date with Jake doesn't mean we're more than friends, okay? And it's just a movie date." I shrugged, trying to clear his doubts.
I hope you're right. My subconscious added.
I knew I was making the right choice. Lucian hadn't shown any interest in being more than friends so I wasn’t about to jump to conclusions.
"That's fine. But if you ask me I think you should slow down and wait for Lucian. I want him for you. I mean you can't let that hunk go just like that. If he was into guys I would be more than willing to tap that but sadly he's not." He made a sad face and I laughed.
"Just do what makes you happy, baby girl." He pecked my cheek.
"Eww." I pretended to be disgusted.
"Shut up. No one will ever love you as I do."
And he had never been more right, except my mom. He had always been there for me whenever I needed him. Most times acting like an elder brother and at other times acting like my pretend boyfriend when I needed him to.
Remembering that school had closed, we hurried out of the library chattering like kindergarten kids.
__________________________________________________________
Lucian has been spending more time with me lately. Ever since he found out that I was mostly home alone, he spent most of his time at my place. Even my sleepovers were now with him instead of Paige.
I'm not complaining. I mean, what more can a girl ask for if not waking up to a smoking hot guy in her bed.
He was at my place as usual. We had been binge-watching Netflix. Somehow, I ended up on his lap. The credits of the series we were watching rolled in and I finally stood up to turn off the TV.
It was Game of thrones. Now, that was my kind of show, unlike romance. In my opinion, Romance movies were way too cheesy although I watched a good one once in a while.
"You hungry?" Lucian asked. I nodded and he smiled.
"Get dressed, let's grab food outside."
I hightailed for my bedroom.
Duh, it's food we're talking about here.
I changed into black skinny jeans and a red halter top that stopped just above my navel. Thereafter, I slipped on my black flip-flops. My hair was tied up in a high ponytail and I didn't bother putting on any makeup.
Just as I was about to go out, my door opened. Lucian stood there staring blankly at me.
"Impatient much?" I asked, smiling but he just stared back at me with a blank expression.
"When were you planning to tell me that Jake asked you out on a date?" He asked coldly.
Huh? How did he know? Those were my first thoughts.
Don't get me wrong. It was not like I was hiding it but I just didn't tell him.
"H-how did you know?" I narrowed my eyes.
"Ohh. So, you weren't even gonna tell me."
Shit. Wait...I'm not even at fault here.
"It's not what you think. It's just a movie date."
"What I think doesn't matter. You are not going on that date."
He can't be serious.
"You can't be serious and I'm not about to cancel out on him."
"You don't need to worry about that. I've done it already."
What?
My eyes snapped to his in anger.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I raised my brows.
"He called to ask if you were ready and I answered it. I told him you were with me and won't be going on a date with him."
That was when it hit me that it was Saturday, and I was supposed to be hanging out with Jake and not Lucian.
How did I forget? Lucian.
"What?" I yelled as if I just understood what he said, "You have no right to answer my phone and you have no right to tell me who I can or cannot go out with." I huffed.
"I do. You owe me. You're mine." He smirked.
Damn him and his stupid smirk.
"This is not about me owing you. I owe you nothing and I'm not yours. Get that?"
"Yes, you are."
"I'm not," I yelled out in frustration.
"I own you." He said looking into my eyes.
On every other day, his intense gaze would have kept me shut but I was way too angry to be pacified.
"You don't. I can go out with whoever I want. We're never going to be more than friends. You can't just ex—”
Before I could complete what I was saying his lips crashed down on mine. I was too shocked to pull away. After a moment of hesitation, I gave into the kiss but then my senses came back and I pushed him away.
"You know what? Just leave me alone." I said after calming down.
All he did was to stare at me but I turned my back to him. After a while, the sound of the door closing with a bang announced his exit.
My mind was like a rollercoaster. I hated getting mixed signals from people and Lucian was doing just that.
Maybe it was time to end our friendship. I thought to myself.
