Chapter 26 - Trouble

LUCIAN:

"Kris.” I called again.

All eyes were on us.

She stared at me before getting up reluctantly to follow me out.

Immediately she was out of the class, I backed her against the nearest wall, caging her between my body and the wall.

Her head was down.

"Baby…" I gently lifted her chin to see she was crying.

Shit! I hate seeing her cry. Being the reason for her tears made me feel worse.

I gently wiped her tears away with my thumb but more streamed down her face.

Wrapping her in a tight embrace, she buried her head in my chest as her shoulders shook gently from her sobs.

"Don't cry baby. I'm fine.”

She pulled away to look at me with red puffy eyes and tears-stained cheeks.

"You almost got killed.” She looked at me in disbelief.

She wasn't supposed to see that but fucking Jake had to bring her there at that time.

"I'm fine, okay. It won't happen again.”

"How do you know that huh?” She folded her arms across her chest as she stared at me.

I stared back at her in silence.

"Who were they and what do they want?”

Shit! I mentally cursed.

Trying to get a normal life wasn't working for It.

"I'll tell you everything when I get back.”

"Where are you going?"

"I need to be out of town for a while.”

"You were out of town for four weeks and the next time I saw you, you were about to die. Did you even leave at all?”

"I did. Was gonna surprise you today but it didn't go well.”

"Just…I...I don't want you to go. I'm scared.” She said in a small voice, staring at the floor.

"Don't be. I'll be fine.” It was all I could tell her at that moment.

I wrapped my arms around her waist and leaned in to kiss her but she smacked my injured arm.

I didn't let out a sound but my body tensed and she noticed.

"Ar-are you okay?” Her voice was laced with concern and fear.

I gave a little nod.

I couldn't let her notice. It was a good thing I was dressed in all black and my black jacket was hiding the wet spot.

Her hands moved up to my shoulders and they rested on the spot again. I tried moving away from her but it was too late.

"Why is your jacket wet here?" She touched it again and I tensed.

"Oh my God! You're injured.” Realization hit her.

"It's nothing.” I tried to brush it off but she was already pulling my jacket from me.

She saw the wet patch on my shirt.

"Let's get you to the hospital.” She pulled on my arm.

"No. No hospitals.”

I couldn't afford to blow my cover. More men will be back.

She didn't push it further. She pulled me outside towards my car and got in the driver's seat. I got in after her.

"Keys.” I placed them on her outstretched hand.

I Never allowed anyone to drive my car. Not even Val. But she's different.

She started the car and pulled out of the parking lot. Surprisingly, for a girl that didn't like driving, she was really good.

She pulled up at her place in no time and practically dragged me out of the car into the house.

Getting in, she ordered me to sit on a couch as she ran upstairs.

It felt so good to see her fussing over me. Someone cared about me.

She came back with a first aid box. Settling between my legs, she pulled off my jacket and then my shirt. She should be cleaning my wound but her eyes were roaming my chest.

"If you ogle all your patients this way, they'd probably die before you treat them.”

She slapped my good arm and I chuckled as she blushed.

I pulled her to straddle me as she focused on the wound and cleaned it. Thereafter, she wrapped a bandage around it.

"This should do for now. Please get it treated.” She pleaded.

I wasn't about to lie to her by saying I will so I just gave a small nod.

"Thank you.” I whispered against her lips before claiming them.

"How long will you be gone?" She broke away from the kiss.

I'll be gone for months but I couldn't tell her that. I didn't want her to feel I was leaving her.

"I don't know.”

She frowned at my response, creases forming on her forehead.

It was obvious she was frustrated but she was still trying to keep calm.

"Just don't shut me out." Her voice was small.

"I can't promise that but if you need anything, meet Val even if it has to do with getting to school. Okay?"

"Whatever.” She rolled her eyes and got off me to return the first aid box.

I went up to her room after a while to see her on her bed, head buried in the covers. I heard soft noises.

She was crying.

Getting to the bed, I got on it and pulled her on my chest, wrapping my arms around her waist.

She still wouldn't look at me. She buried her head on my good shoulder and I felt her tears.

"Baby, Please stop crying. I'm going to be fine.”

"How do you know that?" Her muffled voice.

I lifted her chin and stared into her eyes.

"Trust me.” She nodded.

I kissed her before letting her rest on my chest while drawing lazy circles on her back.

Soon, I heard her soft snores. She was asleep.

As soon as she was asleep, I decided to leave. Spending time with her was drawing unwanted attention to her and it was the last thing I wanted.

It was one of the reasons I had to be away for a long time. The last thing I wanted was any lunatic coming after her just to get back at me.

Placing her gently on the bed, I kissed her forehead and took her in once more.

She really didn't deserve all the shit I was letting her pass through but I wasn't about to let her go.

Did that make me selfish? Yes but I didn't give a fuck.

Walking out of her room, I got my clothes from the couch and made my way outside.

Entering my car, I mentally planned my journey before zooming out of the parking lot.
