A total asshole

**Cassy point of view

**

I vented to Athalia, telling her about everything, from the beginning when Zac and I fought like idiots, the first time we kissed, our first night together and how our relationship worked. And I opened my heart, telling him about Harry and all the support he always gave me, and what we did and how I felt about it. And of course, I had to detail Mandy and her return, and how much I'd realized that Zac had become upset and preferred to cover my eyes and pretend I didn't see anything, believing that he would be a good boyfriend.

“I can't believe it! Cassy, what the fuck have you gotten yourself into?” asks my friend. "You disappear for, I don't know, months, and when I find you, you drop a bomb like that on me!"’ she throws herself on my bed and covers her eyes.

“I've got a pretty rotten finger for men and life, don't I?” I say and she removes her hand from her eyes and stares at me.

“Well, this Harry doesn't seem too bad. He's just your friend and treats you better than your shitty boyfriend.” she says.

“Ex-boyfriend.” I say.

“Fuck him, he's still a shit!” says Athalia "Cassy, you should have called me and told me everything, I would have come at the first moment and stayed here by your side." She sits down again and holds my hands.

“I didn't want to involve you in my problems, I was managing here, you know. Until that damn girl showed up and...” I stop and take a deep breath.

“No Cassy, it's not all Mandy's fault, Zac would have done it with any other girl who hit on him. It's called bad judgment,” she says and I bite my lip, wanting to cry. "You see, he and Mandy really were made for each other, and what happened was a release for you," my friend says and I lay my head on her shoulder.

“But what about the baby? How can that be freeing?” I ask softly.

“The baby coming was a consequence of your carelessness. But it could be your chance for a fresh start, and a real one.” I smile at that and touch my belly, feeling a warmth fill my chest.

“Yeah, maybe you're right,” I murmur.

“And Harry, what do you say about him?” he asks and I laugh.

“He's been my best friend since I got here,” I say.

“But you went out with him and it wasn't just once,” she insists.

“But it's all over now, we've talked about what happened and there won't be any more. Especially now that there's a child involved, I don't think it's fair to do that to him.” I say sincerely and Athalia moves away from me.

“Since when did you get so boring?” I laugh at her face.

“It's the pregnancy.”

We were silent for a long time, and it wasn't awkward at all, we were intimate enough for anything. Having Athalia with me at that moment brought me peace and also a sense of home, she reminded me of part of what I left behind in Brazil, she reminded me of my parents, our other friends, she reminded me that not everything in my country had been bad for me, I had great people with me and that I could count on them forever.

“You need to be strong, honey, and despite what happened, you have to tell Zac about your pregnancy.” Athalia says after a while.

“No.” I say and she quickly turns to me.

“What?” she asks, still not understanding.

“I'm not going to tell him, not after everything he's done.” I confess and she looks at me as if I'm crazy.

“Cassy, are you crazy? He has to know because he's the father, even with his damn mistake, it's his right to know and decide with you what's best for this child...” I nod and get up, walking to the window.

“No Athalia, I've made up my mind. It's a good thing you're here, because I'm going back to Brazil.” She takes a deep breath, not knowing what to say.

“For God's sake, what about your parents?” she finally says.

“I'll sort it out too, if you say anything I ended up getting involved with a guy who left me and didn't want to know about the baby,” I say and she looks at me in frustration "I don't intend to tell Aunt Alicia either, or my cousin. I'll ask Els and Sophia to keep it a secret.” She walks over to me and hugs me tightly.

“You're stubborn, aren't you?” she says softly.

“Very.” I say and she pulls away.

“Look, try to get some sleep and clear your head,” says my friend.

“I won't be able to,” I mutter.

“Yes, you will,” she pulls me by the hand and makes me lie down on the bed "Come on, close your eyes," she says "That's it and now think about your son, imagine him..." and it was with Athalia telling me a story about my future that I soon fell asleep.

**Athalia point of view**

Meeting my best friend like that was terrible, seeing the pain in her eyes again hurt me so much. Cassy never had it easy, even when everyone thought she did, even when her parents believed she was problematic by nature. Cassidy doesn't know it, but I found out by chance about what happened to her when she was a child, I caught Rebecca's bitchy comments to a colleague, and I got the story straight with her, and after giving her a good beating, threatening her that if she opened her mouth to anyone else, I'd kill her for real.

She promised me she wouldn't do it again and told me who her informant was, so I went to that asshole, and as soon as I saw him, I slapped him across the face and called him all sorts of names. Luca should have kept that to himself, and at the moment of having sex with that bitch Rebecca, who he knows hates our friend, and at the time his girlfriend, he opened his fucking mouth. Luca was a bastard and Cassy didn't see it, she accepted all his shit because the asshole was there for her when she needed him, that was my friend's fucking problem, she was emotionally dependent on any piece of shit who gave a shit about her and she never saw how sad it was to see.

But things were going to change a bit with me here now, anyone who messed with Cassidy would have to answer to me later, at any sign of a threat against my friend I was going to show them who I really was.

As soon as Cassy was asleep, I went down to the kitchen to try to eat something. I prepared a quick snack and had barely started eating when the doorbell started ringing desperately. I got up very annoyed and walked to the door, I didn't even ask who it was and I barely looked at the unfortunate man's face and started swearing.

“Fuck, what's your fucking problem? My friend isn't well and is trying to sleep...” and that's when I looked at the man in front of me "Wow, hi." I said, grinning from ear to ear.

“Is Cassy there? I need to speak to her urgently,” he begins and I deny it immediately.

“I'm sorry, but my friend is off at the moment, so no, she's not,” I say and he curses.

“Look, I have to talk to her, I need to clear things up and apologize.” And then a click comes into my mind.

“So you're this Zac guy?” I laugh and push him "My friend has nothing to talk to you about." I say to him.

“Don't touch me, I don't even know you,” he says "Get out of my way, I need to talk to Cassy now." He tries to move in and I push him hard this time.

“No, not at all! My friend is resting now, after the fucking shit you did, leave her alone, you piece of shit.” I say angrily and I see the guy in front of me turning red, I know he's nervous and he's trying to control himself, I know guys like him.

“I've already told you that I don't even know you and you want to lecture me? Get out of my face.” he says between breaths.

“Look at you, you big mouth, huh?” I laugh "That's what Cassidy used to call you, isn't it, Zac?" I say and I see him clenching his hands into fists "I'll tell you one thing, stay away from Cassy because she has someone who really loves her and will take care of her, my friend doesn't need you anymore." I say and he yells at me.

“You don't know anything, you have no idea how much I love that girl!” I laugh at what he says and cross my arms.

“If you did, you wouldn't have done what you did,” I say and he takes a deep breath.

“I'm going to be polite for the last time,” he says. "Please let me talk to her?" he asks and I bite my lip.

“No!” Just as I was about to close the door, he pushed it open and walked in.

“I said I'd try to be polite for the last time.” But before he could take another step, I kicked him right in the middle of his legs, in what he called his cock.

“I promised myself that if I met you in person, I'd finish you off and this is just the beginning, you fucking piece of shit,” I said and he looked at me with hatred and pain at the same time.

“Fucking girl!” he groans in pain "Are you crazy? That fucking hurts." he grumbles as he holds the spot.

“That's still too little, next to what you deserve.” I say and soon hear footsteps coming from the second floor.

“Athalia, who's there? I heard some screams and...” Cassy stops at the top of the stairs when she looks at her ex, almost kneeling on the floor “What are you doing here?” she says as she looks at him.

“Little one, we need to talk.” he says as he tries to pull himself together.

“I said it's over, no more with you Zac, just distance.” she says and walks back to her room, and he was so fast that I couldn't even stop him, because when I saw him he ran up the stairs.

I took a deep breath and stayed in the room, because I still believe that they should talk, and that Cassy needs to tell him the truth, Zac needs to know that he's going to be a father, even though he's a complete asshole.
