I've made a big mistake Harry

The next day I was still alone at home, so I called the pharmacy and asked for three of the best pregnancy tests they sold. And now I was locked in my room, and for safety's sake I also locked the bathroom door. I hadn't taken any tests yet, I was too nervous for that. I took a deep breath and sat down on the toilet, picked up the small transparent pot and urinated into it. When I'd finished, I put in the strip test and the other two, which were digital, just wet them down and covered them up, leaving all three on top of the sink and sitting down on the floor. The minutes stipulated by the package leaflet passed, just as my courage had run out. The moment my cell phone rang, I got up to pick it up. It was Harry on the line, he'd been trying to reach me since last night and I hadn't returned his call. And it was when I did that that I saw the results in my field of vision, and I froze, I couldn't even answer when my friend called me on the other end of the line.

“Cassidy? Are you all right?” he said ‘Damn it, Cassy, answer me!’ his shouting voice brought me back to reality.

“Can you come to the house?” I say and he says yes right away "There's an extra key hidden under the blue vase." And so I hang up the call, pick up one of the tests and take a good look at it, trying to find out if it's real, if I'm really pregnant and the more I look at it in my hands, the more I realize how much shit I've gotten myself into. I open the bathroom door and sit on my bed, my thoughts still far away, it was as if I was in a parallel world and a bubble was around me, making everything distant and I didn't know where to go or what to do.

“Cassidy? Are you there?” I hear someone knocking on the bedroom door "Open the door please." Still on automatic, I get up and walk to the door, then unlock it. Harry is looking distressed, and it was looking at him that everything came to a head.

I jumped into his arms and allowed myself to cry as the reality of actually being pregnant entered my thoughts. At that moment I couldn't trust anyone but him. Harry calling me at the moment I was having those tests meant something, it was a sign for me to know that I should trust him first and when everything was fine, I would tell the father of this baby. I felt my friend squeeze me tightly in his arms, telling me in my ear that whatever it was, I would be fine.

“Can you lock the door please?” I ask and he does so as he enters my room, he locks the door and walks over to me "I've made a big mistake Harry," I say to him and allow the tears to run down my face "And honestly, I don't know what to do at the moment." I say and he still stands in front of me, touches my face making me look at him.

“Whatever happened Cassidy, I'm on your side, you have friends who love you,” he says and I shake my head.

“I need you to look at something,” I say, "It's on top of the bathroom sink." He looks at me confused, but walks over to the place I asked for. And when Harry entered the room, the silence seemed to extend and he was consumed inside. The seconds became minutes, and the minutes seemed like hours that never ended.

That silence was suffocating me and I couldn't stand it any longer. I got up and went to the bathroom and there he was, sitting on the toilet with his hands on his face. I needed him to tell me what to do, I needed him to say something, but no, Harry couldn't say anything, maybe it was a mistake to have called him here, after all it was my problem and not his.

“Does anyone else know?” his voice came out low.

“Just you and me,” I say and he nods. Harry removes his hands from his face, and as I look at him I see how red he is, his eyes are watery and I know he's been crying just like me.

Harry pulls me by the waist and rests his face on my stomach, and that's when I hear him sobbing. The pain in my chest grows, and I burst into tears just like him. It wasn't supposed to hurt, because I felt that way, like I was betraying him, while he was there for me. I slung my arms over his shoulders, feeling him squeeze me tighter. If I could, I would stay there in his arms for a long time, because I wanted to be with him. My God, what was I doing with my life? I had a boyfriend and I was making feelings for my best friend, was that right?

“I promise I'll take care of you until you tell everyone, especially Zac,” he says ‘I know you still need to process all this and you'll have to prepare yourself to tell him this news.’ he says looking into my eyes and strokes my belly, making me smile.

“I'm feeling exhausted, I haven't slept a wink tonight.” I say and he gets up quickly, pulling me out of the bathroom.

“Come on then, I'll put you to bed for a while,” he says gently.

Harry lifts the covers off my bed and helps me to lie down. I remove the sweatshirt I was wearing, leaving only my pink T-shirt on, and lie down trying to snuggle up. “What's that mark on your arm?” he asks before rolling me over.

“I hurt myself,” I whisper.

“That wasn't a fall, Cassidy,” he says and sits down next to me. "It was Zac, wasn't it?" His fingers carefully touch the purple area on my arm, and there he places a kiss.

“Don't worry about it, it was an accident,” just as he was about to retort, I interrupted him ”Will you lie down with me? Stay here until I wake up?”
