Chapter 121

Emily's was astonished as she made her way into the dusty room, her footsteps echoing off the cold, damp walls of the basement. She had been searching for the packs for some time scouring every inch of the surrounding area, and yet, here they were, all in one place.

As she reached the bottom of the stairs, Emily's gaze swept across the dimly lit room, taking in the rows of crates and boxes, the shelves stacked high with dusty jars and containers. And then, she saw them.

The packs, all neatly arranged on the wall, with their hands and feet bounded by chains.

Emily's mind reeled as she approached the them, her eyes scanning the packs with a mixture of confusion and wonder.

Neither Lucian or Julie could be seen among the captives.

It rose her concern.

She gave orders to the hunters to free everyone, which they began to do.

She reached out a hand, hesitantly, to touch one of the packs, as if to confirm that it was real.

"Where is your alpha" she questioned the pack member.

The werewolf she was questioning shivered as he had caught a fever.

She released him from his chains and went to ask someone else about Lucian's whereabouts.

Emily's gaze drifted to the labels, her eyes widening as she read through their gazes.

The pack members were silent for a while. Although, they didn't fail to express their gratitudes to Emily and her team for coming to their rescue.

"Lucian escaped alongside with his lady" a pack member said at last. He looked disappointed as well as all the others.

It seem to them that their alpha has betrayed them all.

"He did promise to come back for us" another snapped looking doubtful about his words.

"It's okay, we'll get you out of here" Emily assured them.

Emily's eyes locked onto the packs, a sense of excitement and relief washing over her. She turned to her team, a nod passing between them. It was time to get out of there, with the packs in tow.

With a swift motion, Emily slung one of the packs over her shoulder, the weight of it settling comfortably against her back. The other hunters followed suit, each of them shouldering a pack as they prepared to make their escape.

As they moved to leave the basement, Emily's gaze swept the area, her senses on high alert for any signs of danger. The coast seemed clear, and with a nod, she led the team up the creaky stairs, their footsteps echoing off the walls.

They emerged into the bright sunlight, blinking away the darkness of the basement. Emily's eyes scanned the surrounding area, taking in the familiar sights of the deserted streets. They were alone, for now.

With a swift motion, Emily signaled to the team, and they fell into step behind her. They moved quickly, their feet pounding the pavement as they made their way through the deserted streets.

The packs bounced against their backs, the contents shifting and rustling as they moved. Emily's heart pounded in her chest, a sense of excitement and trepidation building with every step.

They were getting out, with the packs and their precious contents. But they weren't safe yet, not by a long shot. Emily's gaze darted back and forth, her senses on high alert for any signs of danger.

For now, though, they were moving, and that was all that mattered. They were one step closer to freedom, and Emily was determined to see it through.

Damian's face twisted in a scowl, his eyes blazing with fury as he watched Julie and Lucian disappear into the distance. He had been so close, so sure that he had them right where he wanted them. But once again, they had managed to slip through his fingers.

He clenched his fists, his knuckles white with rage as he took a step forward, as if he could will Julie and Lucian back into his grasp. But it was too late. They were gone, vanished into the safety of the unknown.

Damian's anger boiled over, his voice rising in a snarl as he cursed the luck that had foiled him once again. He had been so sure that this time, he would finally catch them, finally bring them to justice. But no, Julie and Lucian had managed to evade him, to escape his clutches and leave him seething with frustration.

He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down, but it was no use. His anger still simmered, still bubbled just below the surface. He knew that he would have to try again, to come up with a new plan to catch Julie and Lucian. But for now, he was left to seethe in frustration, to nurse his wounded pride and plot his next move.

Damian trudged through the front door of his mansion, his footsteps heavy with frustration and disappointment. He had been searching for Lucian and Julie for what felt like hours, scouring the streets and alleys, but they were nowhere to be found.

As he entered the grand foyer, the soft glow of the chandelier overhead seemed to mock him, highlighting his failure. Damian's eyes narrowed, his jaw clenched in anger. He had been so sure that he would finally catch them, finally bring them to justice.

But now, as he stood in the silence of his own home, Damian felt a growing sense of unease. Where had they gone? How had they managed to evade him once again? The questions swirled in his mind, taunting him with their answers.

Damian's gaze fell on the elegant staircase curving up to the left, the rich carpet and polished banister a reminder of his wealth and power. But for now, none of it seemed to matter. He felt thwarted, foiled by the very people he had sworn to capture.

With a heavy sigh, Damian turned away from the staircase and made his way to the study, his footsteps echoing off the marble floor. He needed a drink, something to take the edge off his frustration. As he poured himself a glass of whiskey, his eyes fell on the phone, and he knew that he would have to make some calls, rally his team and start the search again. But for now, he just stood there, nursing his drink and his wounded pride.
