Chapter 240 The last night

I frowned while I stared at her. Actually, it wasn't what she told me. It was that I recalled a memory. When I thought I was going to die, I saw Olivia kneeling next to me. She lifted my hand up, and she held my wrist to her lips. I remembered the feeling of her fangs touched my skin. It felt great. I had that feeling that she wanted to taste my blood, but she was hesitating. Even if I couldn't talk, I wanted to encourage her, as I thought my blood wouldn't need me any longer. So I wanted her to enjoy the taste of me for the first and for the last time.

"Dad?" Aiden called me, and his voice took me back into reality. I have just realised Olivia stood there like she was about to cry, and Aiden frowned at me, not understanding why I didn't put his mother at ease.

I sighed and held Olivia's hand.

"Actually, I remember that." I smiled. "I thought I was only hallucinating before I died." I caressed her hand. "Olivia, you only did what you thought was the best for me then. Like Aiden said, you only wanted to help me stay alive. I am grateful for that."

"But I could kill Nyco." She said, and I sighed.

"I know, but you should forget about it. We are here finally, and Nyco will be alright as well. You don't need to think about that. We are all alright, and we are going home soon." I smiled at her, and even if I saw that didn't make her feel better, I knew what I told her meant a lot to her.

Aiden looked satisfied as well, as he continued hugging his mother.

Later, on the day, Aiden started to tell me more about their mission of catching Lucy and Harry. I was proud of him, of course, but the fact that they were still alive made me feel uneasy.

Even if Olivia was talking about Irene only, there could be more people helping them. Actually, I was sure about that, as someone caught Irene and her pups.

It was hard to believe someone would help them out in the Green Community, but they indeed knew things that happened before Irene would have got to know about Aiden. To my knowledge, at least.

I knew it would be worth a conversation with Olivia, but I was afraid she would defend her colleagues. She so trusted in them, she would have never thought that any of them would have turned against us.

"How are you, Asher?" A deep, familiar voice pulled me out of my thinking. Walter stood there next to my bed.

"I think he has improved a lot." Aiden stood up suddenly, standing next to Walter. To see him being so friendly with him gave me a bad feeling.

Walter moved closer, and he checked me.

"I think we could go home tomorrow. What do you think?" Olivia asked him, but he pursed his lips, and he checked the paperworks of my results.

"I would recommend you to stay here for longer. Here we can take care of him better. You shouldn't worry so much." Walter told Olivia, but she shook her head.

"No, I don't want to be separated from him." She said, and I could see something weird on Walter's face.

"Well, if you want to go home so much, then you can leave tomorrow. But he must stay in bed, and he must follow the diet plan the doctors made for him."

"We will make sure he will follow the doctor's advice. We will stay here for a few weeks, so you can check on him a few times."

Walter tried to smile, but apparently, his smile wasn't honest.

"I will check on him twice a week. I think that would be enough." He sighed. "You will be near, anyway. If there is any problem, you can call me."

He said, then he had a last glance at me, and he left the room. Olivia and Aiden sat next to me on both sides of the bed, and they smiled at me.

"That is great. We can leave tomorrow, and from then on we are going to live as a real family."

Aiden said, and his mother held his hand.

"Yes." She said, I smiled at them, but inside I had many thoughts in my mind again. To think of that, Irene wasn't alone in this, there was a good chance that someone was still in the building who wanted Aiden. Lucy was talking about examining him. She really was a stupid she-wolf, so someone must have told her this. Maybe that was Harry who had more common sense as his daughter, but I couldn't be sure. I was worried about my son, and I wanted him to be safe.

The next night we spent just like the last one. I wanted Aiden to stay with us, so he made himself comfortable on the sofa. He argued with me again, of course, but finally, I made him understand that I was his father, and even if he got Flint, he needed to do what I told him. Olivia's expression showed me, she thought that I was overreacting, but I didn't care about that either.

She made herself comfortable next to me, and she made sure I was covered completely. She didn't want me to feel cold because of her body next to me.

I fell asleep soon, and I only opened my eyes in the morning. Aiden and Olivia woke up after me, and we all were happy to know we were going home that day.

We had breakfast, and after Olivia helped me to get ready, she helped me to stand on my feet. It hurt a little, but I was happy to realise that, even if slowly, I was able to walk on my feet with the help of crutches.

Before we would have left the room, Walter appeared again.

"Are you sure you want this? I think that it would be better to stay another night at least. You don't even practise walking with the crutches."

I smiled at him, even if it was hard for me.

"I just want to be out of the hospital. Olivia will take care of me. I am sure about that." I smiled at her, and she smiled back at me. The scene apparently didn't make Walter happy, but that was maybe only me who saw that, as the other's smile didn't disappear.

"Let's go then." Aiden said, and Olivia stood next to me, ready to support me.
