Chapter 94 94
Chapter 94 94
Damon still had that worried look on his face, and he looked so uneasy that I started to wonder why. He was usually a deranged asshole who didn’t need or appreciate the care I gave him. But if he was this worried, then I feared whatever it was about had a way of affecting me too.
Victor and I approached Damon, Selene, and Zara where they stood at the front of the ward. Probably where the victim’s body was. Zara collected my bag and handed me a bunch of papers about the victim. It was too much to read, so I handed them back to her, telling her to brief me later as I was more interested in whatever discussion Victor was going to have with Damon.
“Is he done running the tests?” Damon asked, his eyes darting from me to Victor.
What tests?
Victor nodded. “Yes, nothing. Not a witch.”
I looked at Victor. “A witch?”
“The doctor thinks it was a witch, since finding wolfsbane is normal for them. The defendant doesn’t remember what happened, and that is not normal.”
“Her head was bandaged, though.”
“Because of a few scratches and cuts. She doesn’t have a concussion. We ran a series of tests.” He turned back to Damon. “Were there any witnesses?”
“No. Latisha will heal the wounds tonight, so first thing tomorrow, we’re taking her back to Lunar. I’ll sort things out with them. I mean, she did trespass without our knowledge.” He shrugged like the impending war and sudden death didn’t bother him.
Such an ass.
“The hospital will be shut down for tonight. We don’t want the news flying around.” He faced Selene. “Make sure everyone who leaves keeps their mouth shut.”
They both stared at each other before bowing and replying simultaneously, “Yes, Alpha.” They walked away.
“...And you also think a witch did this?”
“It’s a possibility. Or someone working with a witch. We can’t be sure yet.”
I looked over at Damon, who was now looking worried, talking to another pack member. I could see the tension in his shoulders. “Why does Damon look worried? I thought he didn't care. Or is he pretending.”
Victor shrugged. “Maybe he knows something we don’t. Or maybe he’s finally realizing that this is serious as the council members might dethrone him if things go wrong.”
I turned back to him. “We need to find out more about the victim and the defendant.”
He nodded. “Ashley will work on that.”
I sighed. “I’ll take a look at the victim before I leave, Cecil will soon be back from her date and she needs me. Keep me posted if anything new comes up.”
He nodded, giving me a small, reassuring smile. “Will do.”
I walked down the hallway, over to where Zara was busy on her phone, “Tell the driver to bring the car around, we'll be leaving soon. Selene will handle the leaving patients. She looks capable”
She looked up, her expression serious. “Sure.” She pushed herself off the wall. “I got news from a few people I sent the victim's pictures, they said she has only one family member and the rest were killed by wolves hunter years ago. I'll brief you about the victim in the car”
“Great. Another complication.” I rubbed my temples, feeling a headache coming on.
Zara nodded, she shoved her phone into he pocket and bowed slightly before walking away. I glanced around the hospital, watching as our pack members worked to secure the area and keep everything under control. It was going to be a long night.
I turned around just in time to see the male doctor walking to the direction of the ward. He bowed to me and greeted me with a polite nod. “Good evening, Luna.”
“Good evening, Doctor,” I replied. “I want to see the body.”
He paused for a moment, then nodded. “Of course. Follow me.” He turned and led me down the hallway, explaining as we walked. “The body will soon be moved to a private ward for Latisha to heal the wounds. But you can see her before that.”
We reached the room, and he opened the door, ushering me in. The room was dimly lit, the air thick with the smell of antiseptics and something metallic. The body lay on the table, covered with a white sheet.
I took a deep breath and stepped closer. “What exactly happened to her?”
The doctor sighed, looking at the body with a mixture of sorrow and frustration. “Wolf's bane.” He simply replied, as if that was the answer to all the problems.
I lifted the sheet slowly, revealing the woman’s face, and that was when I recognized her.
The lady from the other day, the one I found fucking Damon.
Ms sweet voice.
Strange.
She looked peaceful, as if she were merely sleeping. But the burns and cuts on her skin told a different story. “She didn’t have a chance, did she?”
The doctor shook his head. “No. The injuries were too severe. Even with our abilities, there was nothing we could do.”
I covered her face again, feeling a wave of anger and sadness wash over me. “And the other woman? The one who attacked her?”
“I'm sure you must have seen her. She was unconscious when she was brought in and couldn't quite remember what had happened.” He shook his head in pity.
I nodded, thoughts going somewhere else. “Thank you, Doctor. I’ll leave you to your work.”
He bowed again and left the room, leaving me alone with the body. I stood there for a few more moments, trying to process everything.
She had an affair with Damon and months later, she's dead.
Callum wasn't even back yet, so Natalie's and maybe, Ms sweet voice's killer was still on the loose. He didn't send a letter after the last one and that was also the last time we heard from him.
