Chapter 47
Elise POV:
“Well, um,” I stutter. I can feel my cheeks heating up. “We’re taking things one day at a time. We both know there is something there but we also know what the future is going to bring us.”
“So, you have made your choice then,” she asks me. I nod my head.
“Although it’ll hurt going back and leaving you all. It’s what I feel is right. My family is back home and I miss them so much,” I say.
She nods her head and gives me a small smile. I know they understand what I mean. They all have conflicting feelings about what is going to happen months down the road.
Ezekiel has told me he wants me to stay. Who would have thought that the one who hated me the most at the very beginning would end up being the closest friend I have here. Cassian says it's my choice but if family is the most important thing then I need to follow my gut.
I don’t belong here and the longer I stay the harder things get for me. My emotions have been on a rampage the past few weeks. Anger seems to be the one that bubbles up the most. When I’m angry the skies get crazy. Ezra keeps coming by and saying I’m the cause of it all. I don’t want to believe him. I can’t do those things. I’m just a normal human being. I can’t control the weather.
“I guess I’ll have to see how things go. Take it one day at a time,” she says quietly. I don’t think she meant for me to hear her.
We continue walking around town. But never make it to the sweets shop. On our way back to the house I look down the walk path. Standing several feet away is someone. I get this sinking feeling in my gut that something happened. I freeze on the spot.
Several other men end up appearing a few seconds later. A couple spread their faerie wings.
“Something doesn’t feel right,” whispers Juliangelly.
Kyros comes out of the house down the road. He looks livid. Hunter, Cassian and Ezekiel on his tail, ready to pounce at any moment.
“The fuck are you all here for,” Kyros growls at them. He gets closer to them, the veins in his neck popping out.
“We came for the girl. Something is wrong in Ravenloft and we need her to come with us,” one of them tells Kyros.
“She is not going anywhere with you,” he says, getting in the face of one of them. That’s when I realize all of them but one is wearing the same outfit.
“Look, Kyros. Ezra sent us for Elise. Things keep happening. Elise needs to be with her kind. She needs our help. She needs navigation with how to control her powers. Plus Ezra has a bad feeling that something is going to happen. He would have come for her himself but he can’t leave Ravenloft right now,” the guy explains.
“Tae, she is not leaving with you,” Kyros says once again. “Tell your fucking prince that he can kick rocks. Elise will be staying with me.”
He looks over the guy's shoulder and sees me and Juliangelly standing down the path. His eyes soften as we lock eyes.
“Can you at least tell me where she is? Because I don’t feel her presence anywhere,” Tae says. Or at least that’s who I assume it is since that’s what Kyros called him.
“You can’t feel her presence? Good because she is not yours to worry about. She has us and she doesn’t need you,” say Ezekiel.
“You don’t get it. If I can’t feel her presence that's not a good thing. Ezra’s fears could come to life. What if something happens to her? How will you find her? I’m the best option you all have to find Elise but if I can’t feel her presence then that makes things harder,” Tae explains to them.
“I’m behind you,” I speak up. They all snap their heads around to look at me. The one who I recognize as Ezra’s lackey must be Tae.
He takes a step towards me but stops when a low menacing growl erupts from Kyros’ throat. He throws his hands up in defense.
“I’m not going to harm her,” he says. “Elise, please come with us. We just want to make sure you are safe.”
“And what makes you think she isn’t safe here with us,” asked Cassian.
“She isn’t in a castle full of guards stationed everywhere to protect her,” says Tae while rolling his eyes.
“I’m not going with you,” I tell him. “I don’t know why Ezra is so dead set on me being someone I’m not.”
I stand there defiantly. He crosses his arms across his chest.
“There is something about you Elise. Something that makes you different. Normally someone transitioning for the first time isn’t able to fight the transition like you. You’re stronger than any faerie I know. How is it that you aren’t in your full faerie form,” he wonders aloud.
“You’re wrong about me. I’m not going through a transition. I don’t know why everyone keeps fucking saying that,” I yell getting angry. Fucking hell, here we go again.
I glare at Tae and the other faeries. A couple of them start to turn blue as if the air is being sucked out of them.
“Elise, stop. You’re going to kill them,” says Tae. The guards fall to the ground. My eyes narrow at their acting.
I’m not doing shit. They can’t trick me. I look up at the other two guards with him. They drop to their knees and scream out in pain.
Next thing I know I am thrown back by a sharp thrust of air.
