Night
Chapter 64: Night
Kayla's pov
As I made my way to the kitchen, the light from the hallway was dim and my footsteps echoed in the silence. I paused at the door, a strange sense of foreboding settling over me. I pushed the door open and saw a dark shadow moving in the corner of my eye. I froze, my heart pounding in my chest, as I slowly turned my head. What I saw there made me gasp in terror.
I stood there, frozen in place, as I watched the shadow slowly take shape. It was tall and thin, with a long, dark cloak that billowed around it. It turned its head slowly, its face hidden in the shadows of its hood. I felt a shiver run down my spine as its red eyes peered at me from the darkness. "Who...who are you?" I stammered, my voice barely above a whisper. The figure did not answer, but simply stared at me with its unblinking, crimson eyes..
Before I could utter a sound, a gloved hand clamped over my mouth. I was frozen in terror as a strong arm wrapped around my waist, pulling me backwards. I struggled, my heart racing as I fought against the arm that held me tightly. I heard a low, raspy voice whisper in my ear, "Shhh...don't make a sound." I felt a cold chill run through me, as I realized I was at the mercy of this mysterious figure.
I closed my eyes, praying that this was all just a nightmare. But as I opened them again, I saw the figure still standing there, its red eyes fixed on me. I tried to break free from the grip of the person holding me, but their hold was too strong. The cloaked figure took a step closer, and I felt its breath on my neck. I could smell the scent of damp earth and decay, and I shuddered. The figure raised its hand, and I could see the glint of metal in the dim light. I closed my eyes, knowing that I was about to meet my end.
As I was dragged out of the kitchen, I struggled to break free, kicking and thrashing with all my might. But the person who held me was strong, and they simply lifted me off the ground, carrying me like a sack of flour. I saw the moon above me, shining down on the dark, overgrown garden. The wind rustled the leaves on the trees, making a sound like the rustle of dry bones. I tried to scream, but my voice was muffled by the hand over my mouth. I was helpless, trapped in the clutches of this mysterious figure.
I was carried through the garden, into the darkness of the woods beyond. I could hear the leaves crunching underfoot, and the sound of branches breaking as we pushed our way through the trees. I could feel the cold night air on my face, and I tried to breathe deeply, but my chest was tight with fear. I was carried deeper and deeper into the woods, until I could no longer see any trace of the cottage or the moonlight above. All I could see was the dark, endless night.
I kept thrashing in the person's arms, twisting and turning, desperate to break free. But the more I struggled, the tighter they held me. I could feel the muscles in their arms flexing, and I knew I was no match for their strength. As I struggled, I heard a low growl coming from the darkness. My heart leaped into my throat as I realized that we weren't alone in the woods. There was something else out there, something that had heard my struggle and was drawn to the sound.
I felt the grip on my arms loosen, and I knew I only had a moment to make my escape. But before I could twist away, I felt a sharp sting in my neck. I screamed, but the sound was muffled by the darkness around me. I tried to fight, but my body was growing weak and heavy. The last thing I saw was the moonlight shining through the trees, and then everything went black. I was carried deeper into the woods, unconscious and defenseless, with no way to fight back.
I slowly opened my eyes, my vision blurry and my head throbbing. I could feel a damp cloth tied tightly around my eyes, blinding me. I tried to move, but I could barely feel my arms and legs. I could smell the musty scent of the room around me, and I could feel the cool dampness of the walls. I tried to speak, but my throat was dry and scratchy. I was completely disoriented, not sure where I was or what had happened to me.
As I tried to move, I felt the ropes binding my hands and feet. I tried to wriggle free, but it was no use. I was completely tied up, with no hope of escape. And then I smelled it - the acrid scent of cigarette smoke. The smell filled my nostrils, making me feel lightheaded and sick to my stomach. I tried to hold my breath, but the smoke seemed to be everywhere. I began to feel dizzy, and I knew I was in serious trouble.
I tried to focus, to think of a way out of this. I tried to remember what had happened, but my memory was fuzzy and disjointed. I tried to piece together the events leading up to this moment, but it was like trying to solve a jigsaw puzzle with half the pieces missing. The only thing I knew for sure was that I was in terrible danger.
I heard footsteps outside the door, and I froze. I heard the creak of the door, and a rush of cold air swept over me. I shivered, and I tried to make myself as small as possible, to disappear into the darkness. A figure stepped into the room, the door slamming shut behind them. I heard a match strike, and the scent of tobacco grew stronger. I felt a wave of panic wash over me as I realized that I was trapped in this room with someone who could do me harm.
