CHAPTER FIFTY-THREE

Elena's POV

The thunderous sound reverberated through the trees, and the ground trembled beneath our feet. My heart pounded. They had already arrived.

"Stefen..." Fear squeezing in my chest, I said.

He stepped ahead of me, looking around the woodland. "Remain near me, Elena. We haven't finished yet.

Beside me, Leila changed like a wolf, her body stiff and poised for the next surge. "They're on their way. We must relocate.

The silver wolf's eyes glowed with intense resolve as it gave a low snarl. It was obviously exhausted from the previous battle, yet it was prepared to fight again.

Panic mounting in my voice, I whispered, "They're not giving us any time to recover."

Stefen turned to face me, his face stern. "We must return to the pack. We cannot confront them by ourselves.

I could see shadows moving through the trees as another roar came, this one stronger. When the fled figures regrouped, they brought something more powerful with them.

"Leave!" With desperation in his voice, Stefen yelled. "I'll keep them away."

I shook my head and took hold of his arm. "No! I won't abandon you!

"You must," he snarled. "If you're smack in the center of it, I can't defend you. Elena, get to the pack. Alert them.

With blazing eyes, Leila took a step forward. I'll accompany her. We'll prepare the pack.

"No!" I yelled once more. "Stefen, we do this together! When we battle together, we are stronger.

His mouth was clenched and he appeared torn. "Elena—"

"There is no time for us to quarrel!" With a quivering voice, I interrupted him. "We must confront whatever lies ahead as a team."

I sensed the tension rising as the silver wolf agreed with me and growled low. The dark energy was swirling through the air like a hurricane, and the shadows were getting closer.

Stefen's body shook with dread and anger as his hands clenched. "All right. We're not holding back, though.

Despite my trepidation, I answered, "I never planned on it," with a sense of resolve.

The figures suddenly sprang from the trees, bigger than before, their eyes glimmering with a menacing strength. They weren't merely outlaws. They constituted something much more hazardous.

With tension in her wolf form, Leila snarled. They are more powerful. We must exercise caution.

One of the figures moved forward and fixed me with his gaze. "Luna, you won't get away this time."

Stefen stepped between us, growling. "You won't take her."

The figure gave a gloomy smile. "Alpha, you did a good job fighting, but this is where it ends."

The person charged at us before I could respond, moving more quickly than I had expected. They collided with a force that rocked the earth as Stefen transformed into a wolf and confronted the attack.

The silver wolf repelled the others as Leila pounced at another, her teeth bared. In preparation for self-defense, I seized a nearby branch and held it firmly.

However, the leader had lost interest in Stefen. His gaze was fixed on mine.

"You're the key," he stated in a menacingly low voice. "You are connected to the prophecy."

I swung the branch at him, but he was too quick to avoid me. When he got closer to me, I felt a wave of panic.

With a roar, he reached for me and said, "You can't run from this."

However, the silver wolf pounced at him and knocked him back with a ferocious roar before he could touch me. The leader growled and struggled to get free, but the wolf's exposed teeth held him in place.

“Go, Elena!” As he repelled two more individuals, Stefen yelled across the mind-link. Leave this place!

"I'm not going anywhere!" My voice trembled as I screamed.

With a shout of rage, the leader threw the silver wolf away. His eyes blazed with rage as he turned to face me. "You're accompanying me."

Before I could respond, I was knocked to the ground by a burst of dark energy. I was having trouble breathing, and pain was shooting through my body.

"Elena!" Panic flooded Stefen's voice as he struggled to get through to me, but he was encircled.

The anguish was too much for me to stand. Over me, the leader loomed, his eyes gleaming with victory. "It's finished."

"No," I said as panic swept through me. "It isn't."

The ground beneath us trembled once more, and a brilliant light burst through the darkness from the jungle. The leader's eyes widened in surprise as he froze.

He took a step back and mumbled, "What… what is that?"

More individuals appeared out of the shadows as the light brightened. However, these weren't outlaws. They radiated the same energy as the silver wolf and were wolves, fierce and powerful.

With my heart pounding, I muttered, "They're here."

Stefen raised his head, hope shining in his eyes. "The packs that are allied."

With their quick and lethal motions, the wolves joined the battle and raced forward. They were too strong for the rogues.

Leila fought next to them, tearing into the adversaries with vicious fury in her wolf form. The leader was the focus of the silver wolf's bright eyes as it stood erect.

"You've lost," I stated in a relieved tone.

The leader growled, anger shining in his eyes. "Luna, this is not over. The prophecy will come to pass.

One of the allied wolves sprang at him, knocking him back before he could attack again. Dark energy made the leader's body tremble as he snarled.

"Stefen!" With my heart racing, I yelled. “Get him!”

Stefen transformed back into a human, his body bruised but resolute. His voice was low and menacing as he seized the leader by the throat. "This belongs to my pack."

Stefen delivered a last, strong blow that sent the leader sprawling to the ground.

Everything was silent for a while.

Then, gradually, the ominous energy surrounding us started to wane and vanish into the darkness.

"It's over," I said, feeling a wave of relief wash over me.

Breathing hard, Stefen stumbled to his feet. "For the time being."

Leila transformed back into a human, fatigue shining in her eyes. "They'll be back, but we won this battle."

Beside us, the silver wolf stood with a faint glimmer on its body. It appeared to be observing and anticipating something.

My heart continued to race as I turned to face Stefen. "Now what do we do?"

His eyes were determined as he gazed at me. "We get ready for the next conflict. We bring the packs together. We also defend our families.

I nodded, but the fear persisted. "Are we still not safe?"

"No," Stefen responded in a somber tone. "But we'll be."

A deep growl reverberated across the clearing just as the tension was starting to subside. My blood ran cold as I turned.

A new form loomed out of the darkness, taller, more terrifying, and exuding a strength I had never experienced before.
