Chapter 8 Give us the room

Chapter 8 Give us the room
CHAPTER 8
BLAIR POV
When we finally got to the airport, we were rushed onto the jet. But before it took off, I stood up and looked around. I pushed the curtains aside to see if I’d spot the same man I had seen on a bike. I know him—yes, I do. His name is Ronan, he is Darius's younger brother.

Actually, he is the only person I miss from my pack.

He is the only one who didn't betray me; he stood by me that night and begged me to run away with him.

And I wish I had. He asked me to join him so we could escape to Nightvale—a city on another werewolf planet.

Somewhere no one would be able to find us. He had the tickets ready for us to leave that night, but I wasn’t ready to run away.

I walked to the sixth window and pulled the curtains aside, peeking out in case I’d see Ronan.

That was him—yes, I know it was! Those bluish, small eyes belonged to none other than him.

Peeking out the seventh window, just a couple of minutes later, Darius asked, “What is it? What are you looking at?”

I stopped. “Nothing you should be worried about.”

Darius chuckled, sitting up from his seat. “Sweetheart, everything that has to do with you I will be worried about. What is it you're looking for?”

“You might want to sit down, the plane will take off soon,” he said, and I rolled my eyes, letting out a loud sigh loud enough for him to hear.

It was meant to rile him up, but he sat there staring down at me with curling lips and bright eyes.

I didn't say a word. I should be calm since I'm going back to the Nightbane pack. I’d see Ronan there.

“How many hours do we need to stay on this plane before it finally gets to the pack?” I turned to him and asked.

He smiled. “Just a couple of hours. Why do you care?”

“Why do I care?” I narrowed my cold gaze at him. “I don’t know if you know, but I have a job. I lead a team in the biggest law firm in the Nightshade pack. I have people counting on me, so my time is important.”

His lips curved slightly as he leaned back. “You can make another team when you get back home.”

His voice was soft in an annoying way, and the way he said that so calmly was even more irritating.

I wanted to snap, but I ignored him. I didn’t know where all of this was going.

Going back to a pack I’d left six years ago, in my nightwear, wasn’t on my bingo card for this year.

But still, I sat still inside the plane and leaned my back against the soft leather chair.

I don’t know when I dozed off, only to wake up hours later as the plane was landing.

When I woke up, Darius wasn’t sleeping; instead, he had changed his seat to one closer to me.

He sat there staring down at me while I slept. I wasn’t sure how long he had been watching me, but I noticed when I woke up.

Rubbing my hands over my eyes, I looked outside the window. It was morning. We were also in the Nightbane pack.

I hesitated before getting off the plane. The last time I was in this pack was six years ago.

Though not much had changed, if you ask me, something had changed within me.

I do not feel good about coming back home—home, as they supposedly call it—but I feel zero nostalgia walking down these stairs right now to join the Alpha's entourage.

The moment my feet touched the ground, the air felt different. This is it—the Nightbane pack.

The one I promised never to return to after they tossed me in as a catalyst for the peace treaty. Once I stepped down, I quickly joined Darius in his entourage, and as we drove, I looked around.

Every tree, every stone, mall, shop, restaurant, and even the whisper of the wind carried pieces of a life I once lived—a life I buried six years ago.

It was morning, the sun had risen on this side of the pack, though I still felt sleepy. I looked out, and the light filtered through the tall pines, falling onto the familiar dirt path that led to the main courtyard. A pathetic path I knew so well—I used to race down it barefoot as a child, chasing after Ronan and the other young wolves.

I didn't play girls' games, I was usually with the boys, Ronan especially.

He was the only one I felt safe with. With him, there was no reminder that my mama died giving birth to me.

No reminder that I didn’t know a mother, and no side talks from anyone. Ronan was my only playmate.

I narrowed my gaze, my eyes tracing the faded carvings on the old wooden post near the gate. I was trying to see if my initials were still there, etched clumsily beside Ronan's: B+R. I haven't forgotten about all of our games.

Slowly, my chest tightened up, and I felt a wave of guilt wash over me.

Six years, and I never checked on Ronan—not even for a day. He called, he texted, and told me if Dominus wasn't treating me well, it wasn’t too late to elope with him.

The sudden knock on the window snapped me from my thoughts, and when I looked, it was Darius.

Shit, we're already at the pack house. I had gotten carried away in my thoughts.

With that, I quickly stepped out of the car. The security agents all bowed as Darius walked ahead of me. Every one of them stared at me; I’m not sure if most of them remember me.

My physical appearance has changed. I was no longer chubby as before; I’m now slim. But not too slim and also not too fat—just in between. I’m now a gym rat.

Once we arrived inside the Alpha's suite, I asked for a room, and I was offered one. I needed to sleep.

However, a few hours later, I was awake and looked around the room. My phone lay on the bed, abandoned, so I picked it up.

Swiping through it, I was greeted with over sixty missed calls from my team.

I ran my hands through my hair and let out a deep sigh.

We have an important case to attend to. I shouldn’t be in this pack right now.

With that, I dashed out of the room, not caring that I was wearing nightwear in an Alpha's suite where cameras were stationed everywhere.

I bolted out of my room, angry. A few pack members were already awake, going about their morning routines, and I headed downstairs immediately.

Faces I once knew passed by, their expressions flickering between surprise and curiosity. Some offered faint smiles; others just stared.

“Blair?” one of them whispered softly, disbelief in her tone. It was Mira—the Alpha's cook. Her hair was streaked with silver now, but her smile was the same.

“Mira…” I breathed, my voice breaking just a little.

She stepped closer but didn’t hug me. Maybe she didn’t know if she could. Maybe she didn’t know if I wanted her to.

And maybe I didn’t know either.

“Where's Darius?” I asked, immediately cutting the unplanned reunion short.

She pointed at the door. “He's in his office having breakfast.”

I flashed her a small smile and turned on my heels to move when she stopped me.

“No, you can't go there right now,” she said, and I arched my brows. “Why?”

“He's having his breakfast. As Alpha, you can't disturb him until he is done,” she explained warmly, and I nodded in agreement.

That was until she left. Once she did, I bolted straight into that room.

The door slammed open, startling the two men standing inside the room—except for Darius.

Both men took a step back, inching closer to their Alpha king, their hands on their waists, ready to protect him from me.

Darius chuckled, sitting up from his chair and pushing his food aside. His gaze narrowed towards me, and his lips curled into that smirk that makes my stomach twist with anger.

My eyes flicked to both men. “Leave. I want to speak to your Alpha.”

My words fell on deaf ears; both men stood still, neither of them trying to move an inch.

“I said move! I need to speak to your Alpha king,” I repeated, hoping they hadn’t heard the first time, but it was the same reaction. None of them moved an inch.

Darius chuckled again. He glanced at me before turning to them. “I need the room, please.” Those were the only words he said, and they left immediately.
