Chapter 30 Chapter 30
CHAPTER 29
BLAIR'S POINT OF VIEW.
I forced a smile and waved at everyone before trailing right after Darius.

I wondered why he always gave me a hard time; I had no choice but to follow him. Moments later, we walked into the next room, and he slammed the door right after I entered.

“What the fuck are you doing?” he muttered, his dark eyes narrowing. “Why would you—”

“Why would I do my job?” I stood up to him. “Is that what you're about to ask, dear Alpha Darius?”

His eyes swept over me for a few seconds before he ran his hands through his hair in frustration. “I won't be doing any interviews with her. We can do separate interviews, Blair. I won't be sitting side by side with Seraphina to act like I'm in love with her just to win a few votes. I won't be doing it, and that's final.”

Watching Darius crash out has to be one of the best moments I will always chuckle about.

A whole alpha whining about sitting for an interview with his wife?

I couldn't help it; I folded my arms and tilted my head, watching him pace around the room as he told me what he'd do and what he wouldn't.

His frustration continued to radiate off him in waves, the kind that would have made anyone back down, but not me.

I know Darius too well to be startled by his theatrics.

“You won’t be doing it?” I echoed slowly, letting the words roll off my tongue like a challenge. “That’s cute. But unfortunately, Alpha Darius, this isn’t a request; this is a command from your campaign manager.”

He stopped mid-stride, his jaw tightening. “You think you can just—”

“You don't command an Alpha king, Blair. You do not tell me what to do.”

“I know I can,” I cut in sharply, stepping closer to him. “If you want to win, then you'll have to listen to me, even if you hate it. This is a strategy to buy yourself votes. While others are divorcing their wives, you come out with yours. Your image, your entire reputation and campaign depend on this. And because, whether you like it or not, you hired me to make sure you win. So unless you suddenly became your own publicist, you’ll sit beside Seraphina, smile, kiss her a few times, and never take your eyes off her. You'll hold her hand every time the camera lights turn on, and you’ll do the damn interview… Alpha Darius.”

Darius's eyes darkened, the same kind of glint that usually made everyone else shrink. But I didn't move; I held his gaze. Darius didn't scare me.

Minutes stretched, and then he chuckled. “You've got some nerve, Blair.”

I smiled coolly, taking a step away from him. “You were always good at acting. I still remember the dinner table, so I guess you can do that again.”

His face fell into a frown, and he looked up at me. “Don’t push it, Blair.”

I smiled. “Whatever, Darius. Let's go back to the hall. I have a lot of things to do.”

“My time is very important.”

With that, I turned to leave, but the next thing I knew, his wrist dragged me back with one swift pull.

My breath hitched once my back collided with his chest.

I swallowed hard, my eyes flicking to his face. “Let me go, Darius,” I said in a hushed tone. “There are people outside, and they are waiting for us in the hall.”

“You need to stop and let me go; there are cameras in this room,” I reminded him, even if my voice didn't sound nearly as strong as I wanted it to be.

“They're all mine,” he said.

I rolled my eyes, wriggling my way out of his grip.

But then his hold slid from my waist to my wrist, keeping me in place.

“I do not want to do the interview with her; we could find another route,” he said.

“No.” I shook my head. “No, you can't. Why don't you want to do an interview with her? Seraphina is your wife, Darius. If you hated her that much, why then did you marry her?”

“Same reason why you married that asshole.”

“You think you can talk to me like that and just walk away?” he asked, his voice rougher now, quieter—dangerous.

I laughed softly, but there was no humor in it. “Enough, Darius. You're doing the interview with her, and that's final.”

“Now you need to let me go before someone starts to suspect something is going on inside this room.”

He leaned in closer, his lips near my ear. “Who gives a fuck what anyone thinks?”

I tilted my head slightly, just enough to meet his eyes. “You need to care more about that if you really want to win this election.”

He didn't say a word, and for a couple of minutes, he just stared down at me.

It was starting to get a little awkward.

“We need to leave, Darius,” I said, and his lips curled into a smile.

“Kiss me,” he said out of the blue, dragging me closer to him.

“W-what?”

“I said kiss me before you leave.”

I gasped. “Are you out of your fucking mind?”

“People are outside waiting for us to come out, and all you care about right now is for me to kiss you?”

“I'm Alpha; they can wait.”

I rolled my eyes, forcing my way out of his hold, but before I could take a full step away, his hand caught the back of my neck—not harshly, just enough to make me stop.

“Dar….”

I didn’t even get to finish his name before his lips crashed against mine.
