Chapter 7 7
Xavier's pov
Just when I thought I'd gotten rid of that headache, another one in the form of Gamma Rayes showed up.
He ignored Kylie's greeting and turned to me. “Xavier, we need to talk.”
“I'll drop by your condo later,” I told Kylie.
She nodded, picked up her purse and left.
Once the door was shut, Rayes’s face hardened.
“Is she the reason you're divorcing Maisie?”
“She has nothing to do with this. Maisie killed our child. That's enough reason to kick her out.” I hissed.
“You really believe that?” Rayes said, surprise laced in his tone. “You really think that Maisie would kill her own child? Come on, Xavier. You know her better than that.”
I didn't reply to him. I could see he was hurting and trying to hide it.
“The damage has already been done.” I said finally. “I’ve already rejected her as my mate. The rejection ceremony will be held tonight.”
“What? Are you serious?” Rayes took a step forward. “How can you be so cruel? She just lost her child and now you're breaking the mating bond? Do you realize how much pain that'll cost her?”
“Here's the thing, Rayes… I don't care.” I pushed back my chair and rose to my feet.
“I hope you won't regret this decision, Xavier.” Rayes said, clenching his fists.
“The only thing I'm regretting is not rejecting her on time.” I stuffed my hands in my pockets. I believe you know the exit. Don't let the door hit you on your way out.”
Rayes opened his mouth to say something but pursed his lips. He knew better than to defy the command of his Alpha.
“As you wish, my lord.” He bowed then walked out of the office.
A few hours later, it was time for the rejection ceremony.
I walked into Maisie's room just to find her crying and shaking. Has she lost her wits yet?
Her eyes widened when they landed on mine and she sniffled softly. “Xavier, what are you doing here?”
“Get ready for the rejection ceremony. It'll be holding in a few minutes.” I said coldly.
Maisie rose to her feet, each stepped wobbly as she reached me. Gone was any trace of the woman I thought I had married. Her bedraggled hair, dark eyes and sunken cheeks told me everything I needed to know. She was insane.
Maisie stared at me for a few seconds before tears rolled down her cheeks. For some reason I couldn't explain, my heart clenched when she cried. I looked away from her, confused. She shouldn't have this effect on me. We weren't mates anymore.
“There's no need for a rejection ceremony,” she sniffled again, her voice now stern. “Let's do it here and now.”
“Fine with me.” I turned to face her. “Do you, Maisie Williams, accept my rejection?”
I watched her, daring her to break.
“I, Maisie Williams, Former Luna of the BlackRock Pack, accept your rejection, Alpha Xavier.” She whispered.
A whimper escaped her lips as the final thread snapped.
A sob clawed its way out of her throat as she collapsed to the floor.
“Get up or I'll drag you out myself.” I snapped.
Maisie stifled a cry as she struggled to her feet.
“Pack your things and leave!” I ordered.
She stared at me for a few seconds before she finally moved to her closet.
I watched her pick a few pieces of clothing and fold them into her box, then she zipped it and hurled it off her bed.
I stuffed my hand in my pocket and threw a few bundles of cash at her. “There. That'll be enough for you to have a fresh start in another pack far from here.”
Her eyes followed the money as they landed on the floor. Then she lifted her gaze and smiled weakly.
“You think you can buy me with money after rejecting me?” She scoffed.
“Isn't that what you want?” I raised a brow.
“You're cruel.” She sobbed then wiped her eyes. “I'll never take anything from you and just like you want, you'll never see me again.”
“By all means, leave.” I held out the door for her.
She dragged the box towards the door and took one last look at me. “I hope you know what you're doing.”
“Trust me,” I leaned forward. “I do.”
She turned away with her box and left.
The second she was out of the mansion, I ordered the maids to remove everything that belonged to her. The rest of her clothes, her shoes, and even that of Aria's. I wanted all of it gone.
A few hours later, they were done with the task.
I stared at the empty room, admiring the quiet. This would be Kylie's room from now on.
I was about to call her when I heard incoming footsteps.
I didn't need to know who it was before he spoke.
“You seriously went on with your plan?!” Rayes snapped.
“Watch how you speak to the Alpha, Rayes!” Gavin retorted.
I turned to face both gentlemen, my hands still in my pockets.
“Is there a problem, Rayes?” I asked coldly.
“Yes,” he sighed. “Aria is gone. The people need to know what happened to her. Will there be a funeral? What will happen to her mother…”
“The answers are quite simple, Rayes.” I walked towards him. “Maisie killed her daughter and fled when she was discovered. She is banned from this pack and would never be seen here again. Is that clear?”
“Yes, Alpha.” Gavin replied but Rayes didn't. He glared at me instead.
“Is that clear, Rayes or do I need to punish you for you to understand?” I said.
Rayes shook his head and bowed. “I understand, Alpha.”
“Good,” I smiled. “Have the decorators do something about this room and the next. Kylie and her son will be moving in immediately.”
A flicker of shock passed Rayes’ face but he hid it with a stern look. He bowed his head again and left.
Silence stretched across the room for a few seconds before I sighed.
“Do you want something?” I directed the question to Gavin.
Gavin stepped up beside me. “Did Maisie truly kill Aria? She really loved that child.”
This time, I hesitated.
Maisie really loved Aria. Hell, she was obsessed with her child and made sure she had everything so when I heard Aria was dead, I was shocked. Maisie didn't look capable of murder but that was all they say about murderers. The ones who looked innocent were the true predators.
“I was surprised when I heard the news.” I sighed.
“Heard?” Gavin faced me. “You didn't ask her or hear her out?”
“What are you insinuating?” I shot him a glare.
“Nothing, Alpha. Forget I said anything. I'll make sure this room is decorated to Kylie's taste.” He bowed, then left.
I stood there in silence, telling myself that I had made the right decision but deep down, I wasn't sure if I had.
