Chapter 6 6
Maisie's Pov
Blinding light met my gaze when I threw my eyes open.
I blinked, once, twice, then stared at the ceiling.
When my eyes adjusted to the surroundings, my eyes darted round the room. The smell of antiseptic, the white walls, and the slow beeping of the heart rate monitor, all came crashing down.
I was in a hospital.
“Maisie?” A familiar voice called out to me.
I turned my head slightly and saw my maid, Jennifer, sitting beside me on the bed.
“Jennifer?” My voice came out hoarse. “What are you doing here?”
Jennifer's eyes darkened with sorrow. She looked at me the same way one would look at a broken and helpless person.
Then it hit me.
Aria.
Without warning, the memories rushed through me in waves.
Aria's illness. The blood. The hospital. Aria's heart rate goes flat.
My daughter was dead.
I gasped, my breath catching in my throat as tears streaked down my cheeks.
“Aria is gone,” I whispered,my voice cracking. “I'll never see her again.”
My hands clutched the white bedsheets.
“She didn't even get to celebrate her 6th birthday.”
“You have to calm down, Maisie. Alpha Xavier wouldn't be happy if anything happened to you.” Jennifer said gently, placing her hand over mine.
The mention of Xavier's name sent a rush of anger down my spine.
“Is he here?” I asked.
“No but he told me to stay here with you before he left.”
He left?
I had just lost my daughter and he couldn't stay to hold my hand?
More tears welled up in my eyes and my throat tightened.
I had lost everything in one day - my daughter, my husband, my marriage. It all unraveled itself in the blink of an eye.
“I need to speak to Xavier.” I muttered, pulling back the sheet. My legs trembled as I stood.
“He can't divorce me. He needs to know what happened to Aria.” My voice broke.
“Maisie, wait!” Jennifer called behind me but I was already out the door.
I stepped out of the taxi cab and stood in front of the Pack Hall.
Xavier needs to hear me out.
I took a deep breath and walked inside. As I walked past, pack members bowed their heads. I was still Luna no matter what they say.
I stepped into the elevator and rode to the penthouse.
Outside his office, I paused. The door was slightly open.
I was about to knock on the door when I heard voices.
Xavier was with a woman.
Kylie.
Through the small crack, I saw Kylie sitting on Xavier's lap while wearing a short dress. The sight made my stomach churn.
“I can't believe she killed her own child.” Xavier said in a cold voice. “She could've killed me too. I hate that woman! I want to sign the divorce papers as soon as possible!”
My heart dropped like a stone.
How could Xavier think that I killed Aria?
“Are you sure she'll sign the divorce papers?” Kylie asked with fake concern.
“She won't have a choice. After that, we'll hold the rejection ceremony. I'm rejecting Maisie for good.” he said flatly.
Tears rolled down my cheeks.
“But didn't you say you love her?” She asked.
“Don't be mistaken. I feel nothing for that bitch.”
Kylie smiled, touching his shoulder. “I knew she was evil. Once she's out of our lives, we can live together just like we planned.”
Xavier didn't respond.
“Xavier?” Kylie coaxed. “Can you hear me?”
“What?” He snapped, as though coming out of a trace.
“I said once she's gone, we can finally be together.” she said sweetly.
Xavier nodded.
That was enough.
I pushed the door and stepped inside. Both Xavier and Kylie turned, stunned.
“Aren't you supposed to be in the hospital?” Kylie muttered under her breath.
“What the hell do you want, Maisie?” Xavier said, already rising to his feet. His face held no emotion whatsoever.
“I need to talk to you, Xavier. Alone.” I said, forcing an edge into my voice so it wouldn't crack. I'd rather die than cry in front of Kylie.
“You have nothing to say to me, you murderer. You killed our only child!” he growled.
“I didn't kill her!” My voice trembled. “I would never!”
Xavier scoffed. “You expect me to believe that? She's always with you. You killed her to get back at me. Is that it?”
“No! I —”
“Don't waste my time. Get out of my office!”
“Xavier, please, believe me…”
“You heard the man. Get out of here!” Kylie said smugly.
My fists clenched and I turned to her, rage flashing in my eyes. “And who are you to interrupt me? This is between me and my husband. Stay out of this!”
Kylie smirked. “Says the woman who killed her own child out of jealousy.”
Before she could blink, I slapped her. Twice. The sound echoing through the office.
“Don't you ever speak to me like that again.” I yelled. “I am your Luna!”
Kylie's eyes filled with tears and she looked at Xavier for sympathy.
“Get out, Maisie!” Xavier snapped.
“Xavier…”
“I said GET OUT!” He slammed his fist on his desk.
Tears filled my eyes as I stared at him. My own mate thought I was disgusting.
Xavier’s hands clenched into fists as he glared down at me. “This bond between us is a waste of my time.”
My eyes widened when I realized what he was about to do. “No…”
“I, Alpha Xavier, reject you, Maisie Williams.”
The words hit me like a physical blow before I could react.
I stumbled back. My mouth opened but no words came out. I just stared at him, trying to understand what had happened.
“W - why would you reject me?” I stuttered in a weak voice. “W- what did I do wrong?”
“Everything.” He replied coldly. “Guards!”
“No…” Tears rolled down my cheeks as I shook my head. “You can't do this to me.”
“I can!”
Two guards entered the office and bowed.
“Get this useless thing out of my sight.” Xavier ordered.
“No,” I sobbed. “Xavier, you can't reject me...”
“Get out!” Xavier slammed his fist on his desk again, sending splinters of wood flying across the room.
I looked at him, at the man I had sworn my loyalty to. The man I thought I loved and loved me back. Right now, I don't recognize him at all. I saw someone else entirely.
I sighed in defeat as I let the guards drag me out of the office.
Before the door closed behind me, I saw Xavier pulling her into his arms and consoling her while she cried.
The pain in my chest was unbearable.
In the end, Xavier believed Kylie. He chose her over me.
