Chapter129
"Iris, is that you?" Jeremiah looked at the girl in front of him and could not believe what he saw with his eyes, but it was the truth.
Jeremiah moved closer to Iris. Yes, he could feel that familiar scent.
Iris was a healer of the Snow Moon tribe, who was as pure as the goddess of moonlight. During Jeremiah's days on the run, they had met on St. Helens Mountain. Iris had saved Jeremiah's life from illness on the snow mountain. During that long period of her life, Iris had learned about Jeremiah's past and had been deeply moved by Stella.
Iris was the daughter of Alpha of the Snow Mountain Territory, who was born with the totem of the moon. She was a warm-hearted helper and an excellent healer and everyone regarded her as a holy angel.
Jeremiah was so grateful to Iris for saving his life that he taught the children in this tribe to practice fighting. The living conditions in the snow were even worse than those in the jungle. Jeremiah often escorted Iris to buy some daily necessities. Those jerks kept harassing Iris in the downtown area, but whenever it became most dangerous, Jeremiah stood up for her. Gradually, Iris fell in love with Jeremiah, who was much older than she was.
"Iris, is it really you?" Jeremiah walked up and held her tightly in his arms.
"Dear Jeremiah, I have been following you for a long time, but you have never noticed me. Your mind was all on another woman, even though she was married." Iris' tone sounded unfriendly because she was angry and even a little jealous of Bella.
Jeremiah restrained his excitement. He didn't expect to see Iris again before he left San Francisco. Iris was one of the three most important women in his life. The first one was Stella, who had unfortunately died because of Douglas; the second one was Bella, but she had married Aiden; and the last one was Iris, who he thought was on her life's mission in the distant Snow Mountain that they would never see each other again.
"Iris, has your father agreed to let you leave the Snow Mountain?" Jeremiah asked excitedly.
Iris had been longing for a life outside the Snow Mountain, but she was the totem of the tribe, the embodiment of the Moon Goddess, and the healer of the Snow Moon tribe. Her mission was to contribute her whole life to the development of the tribe. When the Alpha retired the next time the moon was full, a new Alpha would be crowned, and at that mating ceremony, the Moon Goddess would become the wife of the new Alpha.
"Hey Jeremiah, next full moon is coming soon and perhaps we will never see each other again. I have sneaked out in order to satisfy my desire. Perhaps my father will come and take me away very soon." Iris said to Jeremiah, shaking her head.
It was true, as the totem of the Snow Moon tribe, she was well aware of her mission and duties, as well as the character of her stubborn father, who would not let her go far away from him.
But she wished to have a love of her own, so she went out of the snow mountains to look for Jeremiah, who was the only one she thought was a true warrior and the Alpha in her heart.
Jeremiah was so moved that he took Iris's hand and held it tightly, while Iris was both nervous and a little excited by Jeremiah's sudden move.
Iris stood on her tiptoes and kissed Jeremiah gently.
Jeremiah felt the touch on his lips and kissed her back passionately. The two of them were so engrossed in their own sweet world that soon Iris was out of breath.
"Iris, I'm going back to the Snow Mountain with you, and I'm going to be your Alpha." Jeremiah confessed his love to Iris and made his promise. iris nodded excitedly because it was just the best ending for her.
After half a month of travel, Jeremiah and Iris finally returned to the snow mountain.
"Father, I am back." Iris looked at her father with a nervous look on her face.
"You are the guy who took my daughter away." Bryan looked at Jeremiah as he said in an unkind tone.
"Bryan, Iris is a good girl, and I would give everything I have for her, including my own life."
Bryan nodded in satisfaction. He was convinced that his daughter had not been wrong about Jeremiah.
"I have known your character many years ago. Whether you can marry the goddess of our Snow Moon tribe depends on your efforts on the night of the full moon. You will not only have to prove your bravery to my daughter but also to me and my tribe that you can lead the Snow Moon tribe to go on and be powerful." Bryan finished speaking and left, but Jeremiah could feel a tremendous pressure Bryan was putting on him.
Iris patted Jeremiah on his shoulder and said in a tender voice, "Jeremiah, believe in yourself and believe in me. You are the Alpha."
Jeremiah looked at Iris with affection and kissed her. He took her in his arms and looked out the window at the moon. Now it was about to be a full moon, which was a sign that a new Alpha would be chosen soon.
The new Alpha was going to defeat all the competitors and thus establish his position in the territory.
With the arrival of the full-moon night, the Snow Mountain tribe had its most solemn moment, for today they would have their new Alpha.
Bryan lit the torch with a match and then held it high above his head and immediately there was a cheerful chant from the territory. Jeremiah walked over to the firewood and he put on his black sash, which was the symbol of a candidate.
"Jeremiah, it's been a long time." Holst stepped forward. Although he and Jeremiah were very close friends, he still stepped forward today because he too loved Iris. But he was pure without animosity because he knew Jeremiah would do better than him.
The crowd burst into cheers as Jeremiah looked at Holst and said with a smile, "Hey buddy, your strength was brought to you by my training. So let me check the results."
The members of the Snow Moon territory lived in harmony, and their hearts were very pure as they inhabited the snow mountains. They did not reject Jeremiah at all. Over the years, he had often offered help silently to the people here. The Snow Moon tribe had already taken him as one of their own and was very concerned about whether he could become the new Alpha.
But it all went very well since Jeremiah proved his bravery to all of them and he deservedly became the new Alpha of the Snow Moon tribe.
Iris excitedly came forward and embraced him. She had waited for this day for so long.
As the new Alpha came into being, the long-awaited mating ceremony began.
The young girls stood in front of the square, waiting to be chosen, and Iris was at the front of the line when Jeremiah excitedly came forward and took her hand, announcing to everyone that she was his mate.
Everyone wished Jeremiah well as Iris shivered and curled up in Jeremiah's arms because she had waited too long for this day.
Holst stared at Iris in fascination. He hesitated for a short while and then walked up to her.
"Dear Jeremiah, can I ask my moon goddess for a hug?"
"Yes, Holst, my best friend, thank you for taking care of Iris while I have been gone. We will always be family." Jeremiah said to Holst emotionally.
Bryan also came over, looked at Jeremiah, and expressed his great satisfaction.
"Jeremiah, you have done a good job. I am very relieved to see Iris stay with you. The burden of the entire Snow Moon tribe is going to fall on your shoulders. You have to protect everyone and your woman." Bryan was giving Jeremiah instructions because he was about to go on a trip. After spending most of his life in the Snow Moon tribe, he would like to see the world out there.
The mating ceremony ended along with the dawn. A new day was about to come.
In front of the entrance to the Snow Moon tribe, all the people came to say goodbye to Bryan, whose reputation and contribution to the Snow Moon tribe were unparalleled. Iris held her father tightly with tears in her eyes, but she knew that it was her father's decision and no one could change it. The life and environment outside were indeed better than those of Snow Mountain and she would have liked to make her home outside, but she had her own mission.
However, the good news was that she would not be alone in her life in the Snow Mountain because she still had Jeremiah to love her.
A year later, their child, Lexi, was born.
