Chapter 171
Malachi’s POV:
I grunted in frustration as I searched every nook and cranny of the Darkmoon Pack's territory. Still, there was no sign of the Sword of Truth or the Book of Revelation. I had been searching for what felt like an eternity, but to no avail.
As the sun began to set, I reluctantly called off the search. I knew I needed a new plan, a fresh lead to follow. I signaled to my small escort of soldiers, and we made our way back to the castle.
As we walked, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was missing something. Some clue, some hint that would make the search easier. And then, it hit me - Emma. She had been researching ancient lore, maybe she had found something that could help me.
I quickened my pace, my mind racing with possibilities. As soon as we reached the castle, I made my way to Emma's chambers. I knocked on the door, my impatience growing with each passing moment.
"Enter," Emma's voice called out, and I pushed open the door. "Malachi, what brings you here?"
I strode into the room, my eyes fixed on hers. "I need your help, Emma. I can't find the Sword or the Book. I need some clues, some hints to follow."
Emma's expression turned thoughtful, and she nodded. "I think I might have found something. A passage in an ancient text mentions a hidden chamber deep within the castle. Maybe that's where we'll find what we're looking for.”
I felt a surge of excitement as Emma told me about the hidden chamber. Finally, a lead! But as we searched the castle from top to bottom, my excitement began to wane. We couldn't find any sign of the chamber, no matter how hard we looked.
"Are you sure this is the right place?" I asked Emma, my frustration growing. "You said the text mentioned a hidden chamber, but we've searched every inch of the castle."
Emma's brow furrowed in concentration. "I'm positive, Malachi. The text was clear. The chamber is here, we just need to find it."
I sighed, my mind racing. We had searched every room, every passageway. Where could this chamber be?
"Let's think this through," I said, pacing the room. "If the chamber is hidden, it must be behind a secret door or panel. We need to search more carefully."
Emma nodded, and we began our search once more. But as the hours passed, our efforts yielded nothing. The chamber remained elusive, and my frustration grew. Where was it? And why was it so well hidden?
I paused in my search, my mind racing with a new thought. "Emma, is it possible that there's something even more powerful than the Book of Revelation and the Sword of Truth?" I asked, my eyes fixed on hers.
Emma's brow furrowed in thought. "That's a good question, Malachi. I've been so focused on finding those two artifacts that I haven't considered anything else."
I leaned in, my voice urgent. "Think, Emma. Is there anything in the ancient lore that mentions a power greater than the Book and the Sword?"
Emma's eyes glazed over as she delved into her knowledge. "Hmmm...there is one thing...an ancient spell, hidden away in a long-forgotten text. It's said to hold the power to control the very fabric of reality."
My heart raced at the possibility. "That's it! That's what we need. Where can we find this spell?"
Emma's eyes snapped back into focus. "I'm not sure yet, Malachi. But I promise, I'll think about it. I'll find it.”
Emma moved toward a room and I followed her. The room was silent, a place where she could focus her mind and search for the ancient spell. As we sat down, Emma turned to me with a curious expression.
"Malachi, I need to ask you something," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I think you might be hiding something from me. A power, a ability that you're not aware of."
I raised an eyebrow, skeptical. "What are you talking about, Emma?"
Emma's eyes locked on mine. "I think you might be more powerful than you realize. And I think I can help you discover it."
I snorted, dismissive. "I'm a warrior, Emma. I don't have any hidden powers."
But Emma's gaze was unwavering. "Let me try, Malachi. Let me help you uncover what's within you."
And to my surprise, I found myself agreeing. Maybe it was the desperation of our situation, or maybe it was Emma's persuasive nature, but I nodded my head, choicelessly.
"Fine," I said, my voice barely audible. "Do what you need to do."
Emma's eyes lit up with determination. "Then let us begin.”
I, Malachi, felt a sudden jolt as Emma's hand touched my chest, her palm pressing against my heart. Her eyes locked on mine, and I saw a flicker of surprise, followed by a hint of fear.
"Your power...it's so strong," she whispered, her voice trembling.
I felt a surge of energy coursing through my veins, like a dark force awakening within me. Emma's eyes widened, and she took a step back, her hand still on my chest.
"It's like...a devil's power," she stammered, her voice barely audible.
Suddenly, Emma's eyes rolled back, and she collapsed, her body crumpling to the ground. I felt a jolt of concern, but as I looked down at her, I saw her chest rising and falling, her breath coming in short gasps.
"Emma!" I exclaimed, shaking her gently. "What's happening?"
But she couldn't respond, her body limp and helpless. I felt a surge of panic, realizing that my power had overwhelmed her. I had never felt so out of control, so consumed by the darkness within me.
As I watched, Emma's eyes fluttered open, and she struggled to sit up, her breath still labored. I helped her, my grip gentle but firm.
"Emma, what happened?" I asked, my voice laced with concern.
She looked up at me, her eyes still dazed. "Your power...it's too strong, Malachi. I couldn't handle it."
I felt a pang of horror, realizing that my power had overwhelmed her. But Emma's next words sent a chill down my spine.
"We can't unlock it, Malachi. It's too risky."
I shook my head, desperation creeping in. "No, Emma. That's the only way to keep myself safe. If I don't learn to control it, it'll consume me completely."
Emma's eyes filled with fear. "But what if it's too late? What if you lose yourself to it completely?"
I grasped her shoulders, my grip tight. "I won't lose myself, Emma. I promise. But I need your help. Please, help me unlock my power."
Emma hesitated, her eyes searching mine. And then, with a nod, she agreed. "Okay, Malachi. But we have to be careful. We can't afford to make any mistakes.”
I felt Emma's hands on my shoulders, her eyes locked on mine as she began to chant in a language I didn't understand. The air around us seemed to vibrate with energy, and I felt my power stirring, responding to her spell.
Suddenly, a surge of energy exploded within me, and I felt my gates burst open. My power flooded out, like a dam breaking, and I lost all control.
My hands shot out, grasping Emma's neck, my fingers tightening like a vice. She gasped, her eyes wide with fear, as she struggled to breathe.
"Malachi...help..." she whispered, her voice barely audible.
But I was gone, consumed by the darkness within me. I was a force of nature, unstoppable and unrelenting.
And then, as suddenly as it had begun, everything stopped. I came back to myself, my vision clearing, and I saw Emma's terrified face, her neck still in my grasp.
I released her, horror flooding through me, as I realized what I had done. My power was too much, too wild, too evil. I was unstoppable.
