Chapter 79
Rosa's POV.
“Come over here Rosa!” Jax ordered.
He was in his regalia. A clear sign that an important occasion is in the air. Since I became his Luna, hardly have I ever followed him out to any special occasions. The other day, when he fked me openly in the dining room, in front of lyra, I knew it was just a libido thing.
A sign, a very big sign that alpha Jax has never been cool with me. I have also not been cool with him either.
How wonderful it would have been if the wolf I am doing this for, Ryder, really appreciates it. Instead, he sleeps around with everything in … including my best friend, Caramel.
How stupid can that sound? I should have shown Freya the picture of Caramel the last time she visited to know how many times Caramel had visited behind my back and the number of days both of them spent together the last time she visited.
How am I even not sure that Caramel too has not been carrying Ryder's heir. How shitty can that sound, my friend, stealing my lover, behind me and carrying his heir?
It's totally different from me consenting, since she knew that I am not capable of carrying any heir for Ryder.
I stepped into the palace hall, behind me was Caramel, she was walking slowly and having a conversation with one of the servants.
Jax's perfume filled the room. Sharp. Clean. It clung to the stone wall of the palace.
Myself and Freya had parted ways earlier. I had shown her an alternative route out of the palace to prevent the highbrow from being raised.
Then Jax raised his hand, his voice resonating against the half empty palace hall. “The news reached me early hours of this morning that some unscrupulous elements are trying to cause riots in the market square, though I have sent the pack army to control the tension.”
Immediately Jax said that my breath seized. Who could have exposed our plot to him? By now, Ryder would be waiting for his gang to give him the go ahead to show up in the palace tomorrow or in two days' time to wrestle power from Jax.
Jax paused, he enjoyed the silence. He always did.
“I want you to go there and address every pack member. Since my beta have not been around to partake in pack politics.”
My mind had drifted far away.
Rosa!” Jax roared like a wounded lion.
His thunderous voice snapped me out of reality.
I blinked, my eye lashes fluttered fast.“What do you just say now?”
“Are your ears not working again,” Jax fumed,
Jax's jaw tightened. The muscle tightened.
“You are to go to the market square and address pack members, not to result in violence.”
“Where are you heading to,” I asked, maybe, “lyra should prepare one of your favorite meals.”
He turned, his eyes narrowed, fuelled with anger.
“When are you so concerned about my whereabouts? At least you left this place for days without telling me, especially when I needed you most at the most challenging moment of this pack…”
Then he moved closer, holding his spectre like a weapon, jamming it slightly against the other hand. Then a wicked smirk followed “ whereas some pack member told me they saw you at our neighbouring pack, whereas you came back and told me that you went to visit your sick mother at Crimson pack.”
My eyes quickly darted to Caramel. I squeezed my jaw.
This bastard! Did it again! She screwed me up again! After what she did with Ryder!
My eyes lingered on for a while.
“What?” Caramel quickly countered my action. Why are you looking at me that way?”
Jax quickly felt the tension between us. “Oh! Wait a minute,” Jax let out, louder but evil smile, " you think Caramel exposed you.
Jax drew closer to me, his finger pocked my chest, "Your lies did!”
I retorted back a bit.
My lies? That would be the last thing I would believe!
There is nothing anyone could tell me. Everyone knows that the witch that cried the night before is the cause of the child's death the following morning.
And tell lyra not to prepare anything, meeting at alpha dominion pack is going to take longer than expected. I may pass a night there but only for her to follow you to the market square to address the pack.
Meeting at alpha dominion park? Like I didn't hear that very well. The earth suddenly shook under my foot.
What if Jax got there and the investigation into who killed Astra was out?
The way I saw madam Ravenna is either she works in Astra's mansion or lived close by.
I should have killed that bastard if not that all eyes were on us that day. I should have shot her dead at that spot.
She is coming with vendetta against me. She will use all means within her power to expose me. She would tell the world that she saw me in that uniform that maids that work in Astra's mansion wear.
Make sure Lyra followed you.”Jax said" I know you are the one that employed her. Lyra owed you and your friend here, loyalty. If you like, tell lyra to keep everything that happened in the market square away from me.”
He paused a bit, “I will eventually get to know just like the way, I found out your movement to alpha's dominion pack. I know it's your secret fated mate you went to look for…”
I quickly countered, hell no, I only went there to get something for my mother, a kind of gift.” I said. Trying to see if the lies could work on him.
“Enough!” Jax roared,
The walls of the palace shook. Servants flinched. One even dropped tray.
“Trying to defend yourself on the lies you have been caught does nothing but pissed me off."
The room became more tense. Everyone buried their head into the ground, except the one was trying to clean the mess he made.
"If care is not taken you would make me do and undo. I can instruct these guards to get you arrested until I am back. Your way of life constantly makes me look very stupid.
Jax furiously stepped out of my presence. His boot hit the floor like an army matching the battle front.
I walked slowly and deliberately to Caramel. She fidgeted about the same point.
“I….I.. I swear I am innocent Rosa … I didn't say anything to Jax …”
I dragged Caramel from the palace to my quarters. Her shoes were struggling to keep up as we dragged ourselves along the palace corridors.
“How come you are behaving awkwardly since you came back from Ryder's visit.” She uttered. “I swear by the goddess name I didn't expose anything to alpha Jax. I escaped the pack too when I saw some funny stuff raining from heaven. I knew it was the hands of the gods.”
I wanted to reach for my gun in my locker to force her to speak some truth.
But the timing was wrong… had it been we were not in the palace , but may be on the orchard plantation.
I didn't need any truth from her anymore. I will eliminate Caramel and throw her remains into the lagoon.
But that is not important for now. caramel is an enemy closeby I could decide to take her out anytime I feel like. What about that madam Ravenna?
If she sees Jax in alpha Dominion's pack. Then that is the end. Alpha Jax may decide not to even protect me.
I had to boycott where Jax instructed me to go and run to protect myself from Madam Ravenna. The money Ryder wanted to pay to madam Ravenna wouldn't do much.
It would either make her come back for more or come for me.
The only she-wolf who knows madam Ravenna and can give me detailed information about her even if she left the surface of the earth.
My hand rested on the handle. The door creaked open. My head turned to Caramel who was still coming behind. I will , not now.
Then I turned.
