Chapter 45 When Secrets Finally Speak.
Chapter 45
Lyra's POV.
She left the room speedily; her shoes hit the tile floor as if something was on her trail.
Rosa dropped the airbrush she was holding. It clattered against the vanity stand. Her eyes went wide as she watched the back of Tracy, her mother, disappearing through the doorway.
The attitude put up by her mother was strange. They marched to the balcony far away from where I could hear the whisper.
But I could. I have to switch to my inner ears to hear them clearly. The world around me got sharper. I could also hear the howling of the winds, chirping of birds, and even the guards talking two floors away.
While I arranged the dishes and the food that I had prepared on the table.
“You are nothing but a complete fool!” Tracy bellowed at the top of her voice, so loud that everyone could hear it. "With this stupid and nonchalant attitude, will you ever inherit this pack with your lover?"
Lover?
My mind went blank for a minute, like I didn't hear the last part of that statement.
I held onto the dish with the last tip of my fingers, which almost slipped away from me while arranging it on the table. It would have sent a clattering sound into the air.
My vision spun around for a minute. I grab the edge of the table to steady myself.
I couldn't bear the shock.
Does Rosa have another lover apart from Alpha Jax? Is this all a gimmick?
“No… Never…”
Was Mila's death just part of the plan? Not the actual plan? Or just another means to get to Alpha Jax?
I dropped everything I was doing.
I don't think so. Rosa went ahead to plan her own sister's death in order to steal her mate? Then after stealing her mate, the mate is not even the one she truly loved; it is just a means for her to get to the throne.
“With this attitude of yours,” Tracy, my stepmother, roared at the top of her voice. You will not achieve a thing, even when people that didn't sacrifice as much as you did sacrifice in this project carry away the rewards of staying through to the end.
My breathing got faster and shallower.
I don't get what you are saying, Mother.” Rosa's voice lowered to almost a whisper, but still I could hear her clearly from where I stood in her room: “Please, come out of your shell.”
“You won't get it? Why would you?” Tracy hit back in anger.
“Rosa, how could you be so stupid?” Tracy paused a bit, looked around to see if someone was approaching their standpoint, and then continued, "How could you be so stupid, Rosa, to kill your own stepsister…?"
“Mother, reduce your voice; someone might be listening…”
And go ahead and employ someone who looks exactly like her. Is that not foolishness disguised in grandeur?”
Is that not me? My name on Tracy's lips makes my skin crawl.
Who?" Rosa paused a bit, trying to get who Tracy was referring to. “Oh! You mean Lyra.”
You mean Lyra!” She paused a bit. "Didn't even go there, Mother. That was the omega who saved my life when my spirit had completely left my body." When I had almost joined my ancestors! I never regretted that she-wolf came into my life. She was the exact opposite of that thing called Mila.
“Shut your irritating mouth up!” Tracy countered, her voice at the nearest minimum, and pointed her forefinger at Rosa's face like a dagger.
“I can now see…” She lowered her voice a bit; at this time I had gotten into my spirit mode, watching them with my penetrating eyes. My body had been glowing greenish like my vision.
I could see not only the two of them hanging at one corner of the verandah but also Tracy, my mother-in-law, pressing her robust shape on Rosa. I could see everyone in the distance, including other servants outside the queen's quarters.
…Where is your stupidity leading you to? Tell me, why won't you be having all kinds of nightmares?”
I will let Alpha Vexhood know about this, that you are losing track of the mission ahead of you.”
“Don't, Mother, please don't, and moreover, if Lyra is going to be harmful to our ambitions,” Rosa paused a bit. “I know Alpha Vexhood would know in the spirit.”
“You are just taking this like it's a serious thing, and it's not.”
"See, Mother?" She dropped her mother's finger pointed to her face. "Lyra is one of the most fantastic wolves I have ever seen since I got into this palace." In fact, I thank the goddess that I was on the ground that faithful day with Caramel. That nonentity called Kubra would have sent my helper away from me.
You can ask Caramel about the stunt she pulled to save my life in Crimson Pack. I was told the healer was lost and confused on what to do to save my life, but out of nowhere Lyra showed up and saved the day.
Did she attend any healing academy?” Tracy asked. Her voice changed now with curiosity instead of anger.
Healing school? For where?” Rosa laughed out, with a short, sharp, and irritating gesture. “You mean Lyra? Someone who can barely spell her name.”
Each word felt like a slap, but I stomach it.
“Wow, that is brilliant of her,” Tracy said calmly, raising her shoulder.
She continued, "The word 'brilliant' is an understatement." Rosa paused. "When I eventually have this pack with Alpha Ryder, she will not only stand beside me but also take strategic positions in my kingdom…”
“RYDER?”
