Jax's POV.
I held tight to the edge of the chair I sat on.
“You have to help me. How do I know that Mila's mate bond is strong?”
My voice came out shaky and filled with concern.
"She only told me that she had promised her late parents that she would only be deflowered on the night she eventually became my luna, and I respected her for that decision until you came up and told me that the moon goddess had changed their mind and that I had to sleep with Mila before the Passover night. I would not have touched her at all till the time the pack passed judgment on her. Is that the reason all this chaos is happening under my reign?”
“Yes,” Alpha Vexhood replied, his eyes fixated on the roof like he was communicating with the gods. Though he has always been communicating more with the gods than we in flesh.
“Mila wouldn't have allowed you to reign for long.
“What do you mean by that?”
He laughed out loud, not the type of normal laughter but the one that forces fear out of you.
“She would have killed you untimely and may have taken over as head of the pack.”
“Is that the reason why I am always seeing her in the dream?”
Alpha Vexhood turned his attention to me sharply.
“You are always seeing Mila in the dream?”
Yes.”
“That means she wants to come back, but I have sealed her up to stay and dine with gods.”
I trust you, and I know you have never failed this pack.”
“You would have died untimely in Mila's hand.”
“I don't get you there.”
“I said that you would have been killed by Mila. Her mate bond is stronger than what you can keep up with. Her blood is poisonous to yours. It belongs to Selgora.”
“You mean Selgora the devourer? No… Don't tell me that!”
Alpha Vexhood didn't bother to reply at first; he only changed his gaze to the roof, like there was something he was communicating with.
“That was why I had begged the holy ones on your behalf. In fact, if she became your Luna, I bet you, you can't last up to two moon cycles before joining your ancestors.”
My heart dropped into my stomach. My lips trembled, words stuck between them.
“W…Was that the reason Rosa's options came up?” I asked, trying to gather myself together,
“because I didn't see her possessing qualities of a fated mate. I paused a bit and then continued.I only like Rosa as a friend, especially the way he took care of my father before he died, not as a fated mate. But since you elders propose that she should be my Luna. I accepted.”

“You told me that there are repercussions that would follow if I didn't take Rosa as my mate.
Was I wrong? Are you not seeing traces of it in your dream?”

“But, all those qualities Rosa possessed before becoming my Luna had disappeared.”
Alpha Vexhood didn't respond, still looking into the room. His hand clasped around his totem.
“She had become something else. She is now very uncaring, insensitive, and arrogant, and to worsen it, she challenged my leadership publicly, reducing my authority as the alpha king of this pack.”I paused a bit and then concluded,
“I have never touched Rosa since the Passover.”Alpha Vexhood quickly turned to me and asked.
“Why?”
“She didn't used to sleep in my bed; in fact, she prefers to sleep in separate quarters. Sometimes with her friend, Caramel.”
“That abomination!” The word erupted from Elder Vexhood's lips, making the foundation of the building quiver.
“A king must have his royal mate with him almost every night apart from the holy months. Apart from that, Mila's bond is too strong. You can't fight alone. You are to counter Mila and dilute her raw power by having a lot of sex with Rosa, your Luna.” Alpha Vexhood paused a bit and commanded.
“That must start tonight. Do this and see the magic taking place.”
“Thank you so much; I appreciate all your effort. I know you will never leave me and the pack alone the way you didn't leave my father during his reign before he joined the gods.”
I sat on the couch after our talk ended, my head hung down low, staring into the ground in between my knees, my spectacle clasped in my hand.
Then the door flew open. The sound almost skipped my heart. The door slammed against the nearest wall.I didn't look up right away.
But I heard panting, a sign that someone was gasping for air.
His voice broke my thought, “My lord, I escaped; they have closed everywhere in the palace!”
The words “everywhere in the palace” broke my thought. I snapped up. I turned in my seat.
“Kubra!”
Immediately, Alpha Vexhood jammed his totem on the floor, and a greenish spark came out; he quickly pointed it to Kubra.
Then I saw Kubra jerking his body backward. His eyes rolled in his head. Then his body fell to the ground like a bag of potatoes.
I jumped back from where I sat. The chair toppled over me. My heart in my chest. I managed to stand on my feet, gasping for air in between.
“This bastard wanted to poison me today. I have been…”
“Sh…Sh…” Alpha Vexhood held out his hand, his fingers widely spread, a sign that I should keep quiet.
Maybe more instructions were coming from above.I kept my mouth shut.
Who am I to…The only thing that remained in the room was the green glow.
It partially illuminated the nooks and crannies of the room.Then he finally spoke,
“The gods just revealed his wickedness to me while we were talking. I have to drag him here in the spirit for him to get his reward. No sinner will go unpunished.”
My breath seized.
“I…I need to go now.” I managed to speak. Like I was speaking to a tree, he didn't look me in the eye. He only replied, facing the roof and turning his back.
“Make sure you have a lot of sex with your fated mate tonight. The moon goddess will visit soon, and all your sins will be forgiven.”
