Chapter 36 Running Out Of Time.
Chapter 36
Jax's POV
I walked out of the room. I balled my fists so tight that it almost turned white.
I grind my jaw as I locked them against each other. Intense heat flooded my face as my chest heaved up and down.
I messed up. I really messed up playing into the hands of those weaklings. Playing into the hands of those weak omegas is what I couldn't fathom.
I checked the time, my eyes widened apart. I knew I was running late. I needed to go back to my quarters and dress up to visit Alpha Vexhood.
The scourging light which was dancing above had refused to go down. These are some of the things that give me sleepless nights.
I dragged my feet towards my quarters, the king's quarters, my shoulders sagged. I was determined to get something out of this visit. Something that would put an end to this situation. I know elder Vexhood will always have the solutions to all these issues facing my pack. Either by begging, kneeling or even rolling on the floor, just to appease him, I am ready. I needed to make him have interest in all the events taking place in the pack.
I pushed open the door to my quarters, my tired feet brushed against the floor, the two royal guards who were at the door followed me in. I had told them to go back to their positions. It was glaring that I was exhausted. I didn't need any of them, not yet.
They were about to go when I noticed something strange. Unusual. The dining table was cleaned and cleared.
I hope none of you touched the food I left there!”
I turned to two of them who were already moving out. I didn't want to reveal much.
“Yes my lord.” They replied simultaneously like I had just given them an order. We can in to report for duty not long ago, my lord, but we saw Samara bagging everything to take for his family.”
“Bag what home?”
Th… The food here… My lord.” One of them pointed to the table as if it meant nothing.
“Oh no… oh my goodness!” I groaned. “Why would you allow him, you bloody idiots?”
“That has always been his attitude my lord. We have always been warning him before now.”
Is everything okay?” The tall one asked, searching my eyes like the answers were buried there.
I paused for a minute, raking my fingers through my hair. "How many minutes ago did he leave here?”
The short quickly checked his wrist watch.”Not up to ten minutes ago, my lord.”
Oh my …” The words escaped my lips.
I quickly faced them, “the two of you, run after that covetous bastard and retrieve that food from him. If possible, join two or three smart wolves to yourselves. Make sure you find him. If not, don't come back here, it means your work has finished.”
They barged out of the living room. I could hear their heavy footsteps pounding the ground and shouting as they approached the distant main gate.
I tried to normalise my breathing. I looked around the living room . Rosa wasn't there. I dragged my feet into the bedroom. She was also nowhere to be found. She had left.
I pulled my brow together as I frowned. I tapped my fingers against my thigh. What does she want?
I walked from space to space, my eyes darted around the corner. First I checked the wardrobe thoroughly.
I drifted to the drawer. Maybe she had business with some items that I have kept there. I peeked inside. Next I lifted the rug, probably Rosa came in to hide something. I checked the bedsheet and the pillow too. All of them were not left out.
I began to ask myself if Rosa had done something funny or good to me.
An hour later.
I sat in Alpha Vexhood's house. He stood in front of me with his totem. He gripped it with his left. Sometimes he walks back and forth before me. His long reddish robe swished between his footsteps.
“The mate bond of Mila is in your system that is why you are seeing her in your dream. That is why all this chaos is happening to you."
He tapped his totem with each step. A sign of authority and respect.
My throat tightened as I leaned forward on the couch I sat on. I gripped my knees.
