Chapter 33.
Jax's POV
“Start talking now!” I commanded. The words come out of my mouth sharp like a two-edged sword.
I lowered my voice as much as possible. My eyes darted towards the door. I want to deal with this issue intelligently and as quietly as possible. I needed to deal with it like a beast hunting down its prey in the night.
I gripped the gun tighter to the extent that my knuckle almost turned white. I pointed the barrel straight at her face.
If she thinks she wants to play smart, I will not hesitate to rip off the content in her brain.
She stood there in front of me shaking. I watched how sweat trickled down her face.
Then she drew in a deep breath. “I swear to the goddess, the one that owns my breath and in whose presence I dare not lay false claims. I am not part of this…” Her voice shook. “I was sent … I shouldn't have been part of this…”
“Quiet, who sent you?” I asked, each word coming out slow but dangerous, “I need names. Now.”
“I don't have any names…” Her voice thickened, and she almost moved to tears.
My grip around the gun tightened. Her eyes darted towards it. Her breathing paced.
“What do you mean you don't have any name? Do you take me for a fool?”
“Never, I can't do that… my lord…”
“Don't waste my time; I am not here to bluff around.”

I cocked the gun.
She flinched, her whole body jumped, and her eyes squeezed shut.
“I… I will talk… it was… “ She finally confessed.
“It was who?” I quickly interrupted. “Say it now, or I will rip your skull apart. Now!”
“K…Kubra,”
“Kubra the security guard?”
“Yes, my lord,” She quickly nodded, her hand twisted like a pup in front of me.
“He was the … one that approached me… He approached me when I was cooking in the kitchen… He instructed me to put this in your food…” Her voice came out shaky.
Then she dipped her hand into her bra and brought out a tiny bottle sealed up in a transparent plastic bag and placed it on the table in front of me.
My eyes widened in shock; tiny droplets of sweat gathered on my nostrils and forehead. I picked the dangerous liquid up in the air to quickly look through it from the rays of light entering into the room.
The liquid is transparent like water.
“He was the one that helped me to get this job, and he warned me that I owe loyalty to him… that every weak omega in the walls of this palace does too to their masters… I tried to ask him about who sent him, but he instructed me to keep quiet… and not ask questions and only carry out his orders… Though I pressed him further, he finally dropped a hint … saying there are prominent people in this pack who hate seeing you as the king and want you dead as soon as possible. That your bloodline had stayed so long on the throne and to be removed by all means.”
My breath cut; for a moment everything in the room, including the air in it, froze for a moment.
I couldn't think. I couldn't grasp anything she was saying.
A pack on fire because the gods were angry was one thing. That I could understand. But someone wanting to kill me? Just because my blood had stayed to rule for so long?
I gathered myself up and asked, “Where is that damn Kubra?”
“He is in his quarters,” she quickly answered. She said, “I should meet up with him when I am through to collect my rewards. I guessed he was handsomely paid.”
Listen up. You don't react, and you don't tense up. Nothing that must show on your face that would raise a highbrow for the world to begin to read meaning to.” I instructed.
“Yes, my lord,” he answered by nodding her head.
I stood up from the chair, about to leave, for
her to follow me.
“Do you by any chance lay your eyes on my …”
