Chapter 117 Threaten Silence

Chapter 117 Threaten Silence
Chapter 116

That didn't move Jax either. He just stood there. Silent. His face still hard.

Then he finally spoke. He looked at Rosa like she was nothing. Like she was worth less than dirt.

"I am not here for that," Jax said. His voice was full of anger. Cold anger. "The provisioner has not given me the list of items he bought last month. I asked him about it, and he told me you have it."

"Oh! Yes," Rosa replied quickly. Her voice went up a little. Too high. Too nervous.

"You need to go and get it for me now," Jax said. He pointed his hand toward Rosa's bedroom door. His finger was like an arrow pointing the way.

"Okay!" Rosa replied. She tried to smile, but it looked wrong. Hard. Forced.

The air in the room became even thicker. It was heavy with something dangerous. Something I couldn't quite name. Something that made me want to run away.

I buried my face toward the ground. I looked down at my feet. I tried to pretend I wasn't there. I wished I wasn't there. This shouldn't be happening in front of me.

Rosa stood there for a minute. Just standing. Thinking.

Then she changed her gaze. She looked at me.

"Hmmm... Lyra, go into the room and…"

Before Rosa could finish her sentence, Alpha Jax's voice exploded through the room. It was like thunder. Loud and sharp.

"I didn't instruct your disciple!" he shouted. "I instructed you!"

The word "disciple" almost made me sick. It made my stomach turn. Made me want to throw up.

Me? Her disciple? I thought. Me, the one she wants to turn into a killer? The one she's trying to ruin?

If Rosa wanted Alpha Jax to disappear, to die, she would have to do it herself. Not me.

Rosa turned on her heels. She spun around fast and walked out of the room. She went into her bedroom to get the list.

I knew why she wanted me to go get it instead of her. If I went, she would stay here alone with Alpha Jax. She wouldn't have any chance to discuss anything with him. To explain. To lie.

But now she had to go herself. And that left me alone with Alpha Jax.

Jax's face was still hard. Angry. He balled his hands into tight fists. His knuckles turned white.

He started pacing. Back and forth. Back and forth. Right in front of me.

Sometimes he put on a shallow grin. A small, bitter smile. He nodded his head. It was like his body was saying something without words. Like he was telling someone that they were walking straight into a disaster.

Jax couldn't hold it in anymore.

He finally turned his gaze on me. His eyes were like fire. Burning.

He pointed his hand at me. His finger looked like a sword. A sword that was ready to drink blood.

"You are covering her evil," he said. His voice was low. Dangerous.

"I don't know what you are talking about," I said quickly.

I tried to make my voice sound innocent. Sweet. Confused.

"I don't know where she brought you from," Jax said. His voice got louder. Scarier. "But I pray to Ashteroth that I will find concrete evidence against you too."

He stepped closer to me. So close I could feel the heat coming off his body.

"I promise you," he said slowly. Each word was like a knife. "I promise you by my father's name and those before me. I will personally set fire to both of you."

He paused. His eyes burned into mine.

"And I will instruct them to hang your charred bodies in front of the main gate of this palace."

"I... I..." I started to say something. But my voice wouldn't work. The words got stuck in my throat.

Jax's voice thundered again. My stomach dropped. It felt like it fell all the way down to my feet.

Something was telling me that Rosa was hiding somewhere. Maybe around the corner. Listening. Eavesdropping.

It shouldn't take her that long to bring out such an important list. She should have been back by now.

Jax nodded his head again. Up and down. His jaw was tight. His teeth were clenched together.

A few minutes later, we heard footsteps. Rosa's shoes clicking on the floor. She was coming back into the room.

She walked in and handed the list to Alpha Jax. She held it out to him with both hands.

Jax grabbed it. He didn't say thank you. He didn't say anything.

He couldn't stay in that room any longer. Not one more second.

Jax turned around and headed toward the door. His footsteps were fast. Angry. He wanted to get out of there.

He had reached the door. His hand was on the handle.

But then he suddenly turned back around.

He looked at Rosa. His eyes were cold.

"When was the last time you saw my Beta?" he asked.
