Chapter 115 Defiant truth
Chapter 115
.
"Yes, of course," Rosa answered quickly. She said it like it was no big deal. "That's what I want you to do."
Then she tilted her head a little. Her eye balls glued to mine, trying to read the meaning behind it. "Or won't you do it?"
I shook my head. Hard. Side to side. In absolute defiance. This time I cared no more.
"No! I won't do that!"
Rosa's eyes got wide and then narrowed her brow.
"So you won't help me out?" She asked calmly, but every part of it was laced with meaning.
"That's not helping!" I said quickly. My voice was getting louder.
"And anyway when I was getting this job, did I tell you I could kill people when I came to work here? I only said I could cook and clean.”
My words hit Rosa like a punch. Like someone had pushed her hard into her stomach to remove her guts.
Her eyes got even wider. Her mouth fell open a little bit.
"Nooo," she said. She dragged the word out long. "You can't say that to me, Lyra."
She took a step toward me.
"I brought you here!" She snapped, “I gave you this job. And you will do what I ask you to do!”
Rosa's finger pointed at me. Right at my face.
"You don't have a life except for the life I gave you," she said. Her voice was getting louder too. Meaner. "I made you, Lyra. I own you."
I flattened my lips. I didn't utter a word. I was at her display like mute.
She moved even closer. I could smell her perfume now.
"And if you don't do this, I will kick you out of this palace immediately!"
Rosa's face was close to mine now. Too close. Her eyes turned red. She spoke with fury that droplets of her spits splattered on my face.
"You know I am the only one protecting you here. If I send you away, Alpha Jax won't think twice. He has always wanted you gone."
She stopped talking for just a second. Then she said, "Or maybe I should feed you to Alpha Vexhood."
Rosa's lips curved up in a smile. But it wasn't a nice smile. It was cold. Mean.
"I think that would be a good idea. Alpha Vexhood has been asking about you for a while now. This would teach you not to be so proud."
I stood there in the middle of her living room. I felt like I was spinning in circles.
"Oh! That's good to hear!" I finally replied.
My voice was loud now. Strong, with confidence.
"Anytime you are ready, it would be a great honor to be fed to Alpha Vexhood. At least it would be an honor to serve as lunch to such a great diviner."
Rosa looked shocked. Her mouth opened wider. She wasn't expecting me to say that.
"I think you are trying to be stubborn," she fired back, she was shocked with my stubborn stance.
"I am not!" I interrupted her. I didn't let her finish. "I can't do it because I have never done it before."
My voice got even louder. "Killing Caramel? Are you …?"
"Are you mad?" Rosa snapped, her voice below whispers but laced with anger. Pinkish vein at corner of her neck. "Lower your voice right now!"
She grabbed my arm and then pulled me closer. Her fingers dug into my skin.
"You want to get me in trouble? Oh, I see what's happening. You have joined them. You've joined my enemies."
"I didn't join anyone!" I countered, "And I will never join anyone. You're just scared. You're projecting your fears on me."
I pulled my arm away from her grip.
"Killing Caramel won't stop your fated mate from sleeping around. Alpha Ryder had tried it with me, he will still try it with someone else.”
I stopped talking for a moment. I looked right into Rosa's eyes. Right into those blue eyeballs, to drive home what I have said.
"Alpha Ryder wanted to sleep with me too. The last time I went to his house."
Rosa's whole body went stiff. She moved toward me fast. Her eyes got narrow and sharp.
"What do you mean?" she asked.
