Chapter 105 The Unseen.

Chapter 105 The Unseen.
Chapter 105

Lyra's POV

I smiled as I thought about Alpha Vexhood and my encounter with him. His mouth had dropped open when we met.

His eyes opened like a fish gasping for air.

I had tricked him.

And the totem? I giggled. That cursed thing was now sitting in Alpha Thomas's house. Let him deal with the mess. Let him figure out what to do with Alpha Vexhood, the angry elders, and all the terrible problems that came with that awful totem.

Not my problem anymore.

I closed my eyes. My body tingled. The air around me swirled. Then, I disappeared again from my room.

When I opened my eyes again, I found myself in lady Sarah's house. I told myself that This where the next mission begins.

In fact, in her dining room. This time not in Lyra's body but in Mila's body form.

The smell of food filled my nose. Warm bread. Mushroom soup. Sumptuous.

My stomach would have told me if it needed some portion. But, nah, that was not the reason I came here.

There I saw a family of four sitting around a dining table having the best meal of their life.

I looked round the room, then I saw a youngling with broken white teeth. Consuming the meal like it was the best thing he had ever had. He scoop the soup to his mouth and wipe the spillover with the back of his mouth.

Then he turned his gaze to lady Sarah who was also enjoying her meal.

"Mother," the boy said. His voice came out muffled because his mouth was still full. He swallowed hard. "Father told us we're leaving Stormfang Pack soon. Right after Katie finishes at Lycan Academy this fall."

The mother, Lady Sarah, didn't answer right away; she kept on with her food. Not because she didn't want to answer him but just because she just had to deal with the portion in her mouth first.

She turned her head slowly toward her husband. Her eyes locked onto his face. They were soft eyes. Deep eyes. The kind of eyes that could pull you under like water and make you never want to come up for air.

Fifteen years they'd been together. Fifteen years of sharing meals like this one. The fifteen years had produced two offspring, Tatiana and Derek. Well, three actually. Their youngest, Katie, was away at Lycan Academy. She'd been sent there when she was only five years old.

Even as a youngling, she could heal cuts and bruises with just her hands. During every new moon celebration, the pack elders would call her forward, to show her god's gift.

Everyone would watch as she made wounds close and broken bones mend.

Having talents like that has not been far-fetched in the Stormfang pack. One typical example is Alpha Vexhood.

Occasionally, he does visit lycan academy to deliver lectures to senior students on transmigration, and sorcery. Some knew he was just doing it on the surface. He wouldn't expose the source of his mystical power to anyone.

Even he keeps a lot from his apprentice students that have been under him, turning them to glorified messengers.

"Don't mind your father, dear." Lady Sarah's voice came out gentle. She reached across the table and patted Derek's hand. "He's just talking because things have been hard lately. The pack has been facing some challenges."

Derek nodded. His gap-toothed smile returned. "But the Eclipsia pendant and the lamp from Alpha Vexhood have been protecting us!" He said it like he was announcing a great victory.

Tatiana, the older sister, sat up straighter in her chair. She lifted both shoulders in a shrug. Her spoon scraped against her bowl.

"I think we should agree with Father." She spoke with her mouth half full of bread. Crumbs fell onto her lap and the table.

The table had six seats total. Lady Sarah and Alpha Francis sat side by side, their shoulders almost touching.

The pup sat across them, Behind the younglings, the den wall rose from stone floor to ceilings. No expensive ceilings. No expensive decorations.

About what?" Lady Sarah’s voice lifted just a notch. Her spoon stalled midair, her lips and her bowl. A drop of soup splashed and fell back into what was left in the content below. "We're not going anywhere. This is our home. This is our pack." Her voice grew stronger with each word. "The Moon Goddess has kept us safe from evil. Thanks to Alpha Vexhood..."

Then she paused for a moment.

Her eyes moved up. Past Tatiana. Past Derek. To the far end of the table.

Where I stood.

Only Lady Sarah could see me. Not the children. Not Alpha Francis. Just her.

I quickly observed her countenance. Her eyes widened apart. Her mouth too was not left behind, it was too difficult to close. Her throat let out a tiny gasp mixed with terror.

Her body vibrated, including her hand, allowing the spoon she held to slip.

It hit the polished floor with a loud clatter. The sound rattled through the quiet room and sent shivers down everyone's spine.

Everyone flinched for a moment. Then at once, they all turned their gaze to her.

Derek was the first to snap up from his chair.

Mother?!” He quickly let out, rushing to her mother for help.

"Mother?" Derek jumped up from his chair so fast it scraped backward across the floor. He rushed to her side.

Lady Sarah's whole body started to shake. Her hands trembled. Her shoulders jerked. She looked like she'd been struck by lightning. Her right arm lifted. Her finger pointed straight at me, at the empty air where her family saw nothing.

Her mouth opened and closed. No words came out at first. Just tiny choking sounds.

Alpha Francis grabbed her shoulder. "Sarah! What's wrong?"

Tatiana stood up too. Her chair fell backward and crashed to the floor.

"Mother!"

Lady Sarah's lips finally formed words. But they came out all wrong.

Broken. Stuttered.

"Miii... lla..." Her hand vibrated in the air as if something bigger enough to tear off her soul from her had been passed into her body. Her whole arm trembled like a leaf in a strong wind.

“Derek grabbed his mother's upper arm and shook vigorously . "Mother, what are you seeing?"

Her breathing came fast. In and out. Her chest rose and fell rapidly. Sweat appeared on her forehead. It dripped down the side of her face.

"Miii..." she tried again to speak, but the word stuck to her mouth.

I sat perfectly calm at the end of the table. I didn't move. I didn't speak. I just watched her.

Lady Sarah's gaze didn't leave me. They were locked on my face. Mine too didn't leave her for a moment. They were soaked up with pure terror.

Her husband shook her gently.

"Sarah! Talk to us!"

But she couldn't look away from me. She couldn't stop shaking. She couldn't finish saying my name.

"Miii...llla…”
