Episode 10: The New Beta

Ava.

"What? Where is Sam!? Where is my baby!?" I muttered, looking around, frightened as soon as I noticed that he wasn't on the bed where I left him.

Without wasting any time, I immediately started running back to the hall because I was certain that no one else could have taken the baby except Caleb.

I know he's here on a mission! His mission always seems to be to ruin my happiness.

Though as I ran downstairs, I saw Gwen stepping forward with Sam, but I didn't stop until I reached her and took the baby from her, placing him on my chest, and letting out a sigh of relief.

"Oh, thank goodness!" I said, feeling the body of my precious baby, the one who has overcome every obstacle to be with me on this Earth. I just pray that no matter how hard they try, they can never separate us.

"Why are you crying? Are you okay? And why did you have to take the baby out of my hands? I couldn't leave the baby alone in the room, so I decided to take him," Gwen said while tears kept flowing down from my eyes.

"Yes! You decided! The moment you decided was the moment you almost made me run out of breath," I responded to her.

"I'm sorry about that. I didn't mean to frighten you," she replied. I scoffed and wiped away my tears.

"The visitors? Did you see them before coming to tell me? Tell me the truth because I no longer trust you," I asked Gwen, with a serious look on my face, while she looked at me confused.

But I'm beginning not to trust her. I mean, why would she tell me to go and see them when she knew that Caleb was with them and she didn't even mention it?

Moreover, when I returned, my baby was missing.

"Sorry to say, my lady, but I don't understand what you're trying to say. Why are you acting strange?" Gwen asked.

"I just asked you a simple question! Did you see those new werewolves that have joined the pack?" I asked again.

Then she shook her head, looking innocent. "No! I haven't set my eyes on them. I was only informed by Kennedy that the Alpha wanted to see you, and I did as I was ordered," Gwen responded. But I still doubt her loyalty.

You know people can change anytime, just like the way I was almost murdered by Caleb, someone I saved. The reality of life is that it can take an unexpected turn at any time.

"So you're trying to tell me that you had no idea that Caleb was among them?" I asked in a deep voice, and she acted surprised too.

"Caleb? you mean Your former Caleb is here? How is that possible? I swear I don't know! You should have known me better by now, my lady."

"If I knew he was among them, I would do everything in my power to make sure you didn't set your eyes on him because his presence brings you nothing but sadness."

"I swear, I never set my eyes on any of them, but what could Caleb be doing here? How did you know that you are here?" Gwen asked.

"That's exactly what I don't know. Seriously, I'm scared for myself and my baby. Nobody knows what he has in mind," I responded as I began to head back to my room, with Gwen following closely behind.

"Maybe he visited because he's already an Alpha, I mean Alpha..." Gwen couldn't finish her sentence, and I interrupted her.

"He's not at peace with Alpha Dan. Whatever reason made him visit here, he should have been locked up or at least become one of the enslaved omegas, but no!"

"I saw him standing there like a free man. It was as if he has become Dan's best friend," I responded to Gwen as we reached my room.

I opened the door and stepped inside, with Gwen joining me.

"This is really terrible. This might mean that he has an idea that you're here and he has come to complete his mission. We must do all we can to protect Sam," Gwen said as she approached me and took the baby from me.

"Sam is exactly the first person he will definitely come for," Gwen said, while I sat idle, meditating on how to be careful in this moment.

Just then, there was a knock on my door, and I looked at Gwen.

"Please check who that might be," I ordered Gwen as she approached and handed over the baby to me.

Then she approached the door and opened it. "Alpha," Gwen said as she stepped backward, and Alpha Dan entered. The ln Caleb joined him inside immediately, and I quickly got to my feet, looking at them.

As I couldn't quite figure out what was going on, Gwen was also shocked as she approached me and stood beside me.

Then Dan looked at her. "Leave us," Alpha Dan ordered her, and Gwen nodded, quickly running out of the room, clearly scared.

Even Alpha Dan was surprised by her actions as he looked at me. "Is she okay?" Dan asked me, and I nodded.

"Yes, she's fine. Why are you here?" I asked, trying my best to avoid looking at Caleb. But the moment our eyes met, there was this feeling I couldn't quite describe.

Although the way he was gazing at me made me even more scared, as he continued to look at me.

"You're sure you're okay too? What was the meaning of what you did downstairs in the presence of our new omegas?" Alpha Dan asked.

"I... I..." I struggled to say something while Caleb continued to look at me, knowing that I might expose him. But the truth is, I can't.

If I let them know who he truly is, then Dan is capable of killing him. And that's the difference between us. I'm not like him or Ariel, so then I looked at Dan and lied.

"I remembered that I forgot Sam, so I had to run back to take him," I said to Dan. Caleb closed his eyes and sighed with relief, as if he was afraid of Dan too.

I know that right now he will think that I still have feelings for him, but I must make sure to get him kicked out of here. He can't live with us. His presence frightens me, as long as he is involved.

"Okay, I'm just here to introduce my new Beta to you, James," Dan said referring to Caleb as James and I reacted.

"What? His name is James? however what happened to your beta Kennedy? he is a nice person" I requested to know.

"Kennedy has upgraded to become an Alpha. I freed him and some other homeless people who wanted to go with him. Kennedy has gone home. But do you have any problems with this one?" Alpha Dan asked as I looked at Caleb.

If he's truly not here on a secret mission, then why did he lie and use a false name? Look at the way he's looking at me. His intentions are not pure! I think I need to let Alpha Dan know that I can't accept Caleb as his Beta. It's not possible.

Being Dan's Beta means that he will always be close to me but I don't want him to be anywhere close to me, I want him very far away from me.
