Keep a Close Eye on Her

DAMON

"I said, keep a close eye on her! You understand, give me news every five hours about Piper!" I ordered.

"Okay," Luther replied.

I hung up the call and took a deep breath, back to struggling with my work. That's because I have to finish my job this week. It feels like going through this day is like hell.

Being away from Piper turned out to be not fun at all. It was unusual for me to feel something like this, so my wolf was restless and uncertain. What was with this vibration? I glanced at my phone since my lips had been muttering earlier, reading Piper's name on my screen.

Why is this girl so persistent? She didn't contact me, didn't try to ask how I was or anything. Piper should have thought about me because she couldn't stand her heat, especially since she was human.

"Mr. Damon, it's time to head to the hall now! They'll be here soon," Sarah said. She was the one on the business trip with me today.

In my Armani suit, I rushed to our meeting point. There was a business with a big income opportunity waiting for me. People from Russia came to contact me, offering quite an interesting cooperation.

But of all the interesting things, it was the business with Nikolai Vladimir. He is the Alpha of the pack In Russia and is known as the ruler of the natural gas region there. He saw my profile about building a resort and seemed interested in working with me on that.

"Nice to meet you, Alpha Nikolai!" I greeted his arrival. He was accompanied by two of his men.

We first sat at the same round table, but once the conversation turned to business, my secretary and Nikolai's men moved to another table behind us.

"Nice chat for our first meeting," Nikolai told me. He was a cheerful type of guy. Not as cold as me. Many teenagers would like him as the Alpha in their area.

"I'm surprised you speak my language fluently!" I replied

"Oh, I spent four years of my teenage years here, so I guess some of the customs here still stuck with me."

"Oh, is that so?"

"Yup! So, shall we get to the point of our conversation? About the Resort!"

"Sure! Show me!" I asked.

Nikolai handed over the necessary documents. The proposal was in line with his plan. He explained, and I listened while investigating not only about the proposal but also how Nikolai was responsible for how he talked about his work.

"How is it? I will listen to your response to this," he asked.

"Hmmm," I rubbed my chin. Silence for a moment, giving space for my mind to understand this proposal.

"Well, I guess I feel what they feel now," Nikolai said again.

"Excuse me?"

"To be honest, before I contacted you, I had already looked into you. Asked some of those who had worked with you."

I pursed my lips. "Then? What did they say about me?"

"They said you are full of caution, very thorough, scary, and…."

"And?"

"Acting so cold. I can feel it from you!"

I sighed without smiling at all. This kind of sentence, I have heard it many times. It feels familiar to me. But Nikolai was brave enough to tell me something as frank as this. It made me curious to work with him.

"Your proposal is interesting, but in my eyes, some things still need to be changed. Are you willing?"

"Sure! Try explaining it to me!"

Nikolai and I discussed this business for almost an hour until we agreed.

"This is fun; let's take care of the contract. And review it again after we agree on it."

"Of course!"

"I can't wait to do business with you and meet your Luna!" he said.

My heart fluttered hearing Nikolai's words, especially after hearing those words. I just remembered Piper even though I felt like I had been trying to divert my thoughts from Piper since earlier.

"Why are you surprised? I can smell your special Luna scent from your body, and as for your wedding ring, it's a unique design," Nikolai said again.

I was the one who chose the design of our wedding ring. There is Piper's blood in the cavity of my ring. I made the design like this on purpose, to bind Piper so that she understands that her life and death are under my hands now.

She was a bit of a handful, so I tried to do the best I could for her, even though Piper protested.

"Nice to meet you, Nikolai! Then, let's end our meeting here." I stood up.

Nikolai stood up quickly, even though I knew he wanted to talk to me about many things. It was evident from the look in his eyes, but I didn't want to waste my energy on someone like this.

"I look forward to our next meeting!" he said again.

Sarah followed my steps, and she followed me out of the hall. "Make the contract in two days, send the file to Nikolai's email, and arrange the next meeting with him," I said.

"Yes, Sir! You can rest now; you will attend Miss Tamara's birthday party tonight!"

"Okay! What will I bring there?"

"I have already picked out a bouquet and necklace as gifts! She will love it."

"Make sure my gift isn't too flashy! I don't like overly formal relationships with Tamara!"

"Of course, sir, I understand!"

The smell of the hotel room made me realize how far apart Piper and I were. I was still glancing at my phone screen, and Piper hadn't contacted me either. The evening sun was already shining through my hotel room window.

"Damn, we missed Piper so much!" my wolf said.

"Yeah, but I don't think she does."

"How did you know?" my wolf muttered. He wanted a better sentence.

"Luther texted me that Piper was just in her room all day. That means she has nothing to do, but why didn't she try to contact me?" I grumbled.

My wolf hissed. "I told you to bring her here! This is your fault!" he said angrily. He chose to sleep, but his restless energy still affected me.

I contacted Emma; I may get different news from her.

"What was Piper doing all day in her room?" I asked as soon as Emma answered my phone call.

"This morning, she went out, but after talking to beta Luther, Piper returned to her room and didn't come out again."

"Hmm, do you know what they're talking about, Emma?"
