Chapter 75
Chapter 75
The shock and surprise on James’ face was enough that Nash quickly spun around to face the door as it opened. Backing up several paces, he placed himself more in a corner as the two alphas began to growl aggressively towards each other. Nash knew he had absolutely no chance of getting out of the prison alive and he much rather die in an Alpha’s Challenge than be tortured and given a slow death. So if the two alpha’s wanted to fight each other, he was all for it.
► What are you doing here Cassidy?! You are supposed to be in bed. ◄ James snapped into her mind angrily after he got over the shock of seeing her in that doorway. He was going to kill his brother…
Cassidy was beyond just angry with James. Her anger and aggression rolled off of her in waves. ► YOU LIED TO ME! ◄
► THIS IS MY FIGHT CASSIDY! You are not welcome in this Challenge!◄
Cassidy turned her angry eyes to the rogue, looking the wolf over for a few seconds. ► Your fight? No. This is MY fight. What he did to me… what he and his kind have done to my family?! NO. This is— ◄
► You're right…◄ James interrupted her and backed down a little, glaring at the rogue. ► You deserve to take him down. I also have the right to the challenge.◄ He said and glanced over at Cassidy. ► Let us take him together? ◄ He asked lowly.
Nash saw the second the two Alpha wolves came to an understanding with each other, Alpha Black relaxing first as the wolf focused on the white-furred female. Nash knew it was now or never if he wanted to get any chance at all of getting some damage in on the Alpha of BlackStone. While Cassidy was momentarily distracted by James giving, Nash’s body exploded forward like a cannon, tackling himself into James as hard as he could.
James nor Cassidy was expecting the rogue to have the courage or the willpower to attack either of them right out. James turned towards Nash just as the wolf’s teeth sank deep into his belly, clamping down and ripping at the flesh with a vicious shake of the rogue's head. James attacked right back, his powerful jaws grabbing Nash’s flank and pulling him off of his body while swinging the rogue out in front of him.
Nash had only a second of fear as he came face to face with intense golden eyes and the snarling face of the she-wolf he had kidnapped. Cassidy lunged for him and Nash let out a frightened cry of submission to the alphas and he dropped to the floor to beg for his life. He could handle James’ aggression and his power but the white wolf was something else entirely. She could rival the Rogue King.
The rogue only dropped about an inch before the she-wolf's jaws grabbed him by the back of the neck. James and Cassidy both pulled and shook the rogue like he was a toy, effectively ending Nash’s life. Both the wolves growled at each other, demanding the other drop the rogue, each one wanting to claim victory. James’ growls intensified and without warning Cassidy dropped the rogue and went after James, her wolf refusing to allow anyone else near her kill.
James backed off, dropping Nash’s body and moving away quickly, allowing Cassidy to go back to attacking the male that had wronged her. To take her anger out on the rogue for her family. He looked to where the mirror was where he knew his pack had been witnessing the challenge. ► “Go. I will be fine and I will take care of her.” ◄ he ordered his pack that was near. James waited, listening as someone unlocked the door for them and then several more minutes while Cassidy tore the rogue apart, watching as her wolf inflicted all the violence she had been trapped with for so many years.
“Cassidy…”
Cassidy heard her name and she looked up, white fur stained and smeared. Her eyes focused on James and looked over him slowly. He had shifted back. When? She didn't know. He was beaten up with bruises and scratches, blood across half of his face from a deep cut above his eye that would heal in the next day or two but he was whole and he was crouched with an outstretched hand towards her.
“Come to me?” James asked in a gentle tone knowing at this moment if he did anything but ask her she probably would have attacked him too.
There was no hesitation for Cassidy. It was done and over with Nash and she left the body without a second look, coming over to James. The she-wolf let out a soft whine and nuzzled her nose and then cheek into James’ hand before she went right into the arms he opened for her, tucking herself against his firm body.
“That's my girl.” He whispered and hugged her to him, his fingers lightly stroking through her fur to help calm her down. “I need you to shift back now. Give Cassidy the control. It is over in here and I need to get you cleaned up.”
Cassidy’s wolf did not need much encouragement. She had let out every last ounce of emotional build-up and anger she had on that rogue and was worn out. Her wolf pressed herself against James and then gave his chest a loving lick of her tongue before the wolf began to retreat and give Cassidy control and her human form again. She shifted smoothly, James releasing his hold on her to give her some room and once she was finished she was kneeling and staring down at her hands that were firmly pressed to the floor. James had said her name and something else in a worried tone before his hands firmly gripped her arms and brought her to her feet.
Everything was a blur to Cassidy. She was vaguely aware of them leaving the rec room, her mind fuzzy and coming to terms with where she was at and what she had done. She and her wolf were very different creatures. Sure Cassidy wanted revenge and she wanted to believe she was fierce enough to take on the rogue, but it was her wolf that was the violent and aggressive side of her. It was difficult to accept that side of her at times. Especially now with the level of hatred her wolf just took out on Nash. They came to a stop and Cassidy looked around, taking in a sharp breath seeing where she was and she began to panic only to be grabbed roughly and held still.
“No! Stop!” James snapped at her. He was worried for Cassidy, that concern growing as they left the recreation room behind and he took her to the showers so they could get cleaned up before leaving. He didn't expect her to panic as she came out of whatever daze she was in after the fight. James grabbed her by the arms, holding her still and lowering himself so they were at eye level. “Cassidy talk to me. Right now.” He demanded in a low tone.
Golden eyes lifted and centered on James’ green just before tears shone in Cassidy’s. “Why are we here? In this place? The showers?” she asked in an almost frightened tone as she looked around at the place she hated almost as much as her prison room.
James’ brows came together briefly as he tried to figure out what exactly Cassidy was talking about, he looking around as well. It hit him hard, her fear was because of him and he knew exactly why she was questioning being here. “Cassi… Breathe. You will never know a cage again. We are only here to shower and then go home. No one is going to touch you but me.” He reassured her, reaching over and turning on one of the showers, letting it run and get warm, and allowing Cassidy the time she needed to collect herself.
Cassidy looked up at James while he stood back up to his full height and started the shower next to them. When he looked back down to her, she reached up and gently touched the cut above his eye, a concerned expression crossing her features. Trailing her fingers down the side of his face and jaw, down to his chin, she roughly grabbed the area and held him still for a minute. Her senses were quickly coming back as the haze lifted and everything before and during came rushing back in clear memories. “You ever… EVER… lie to me again about anything. I swear I will come after you.” She growled up at him.
His mate was so fierce sounding when she wanted to be and James couldn't help but grin when Cassidy went to threatening him. “Anything? What if it's a surprise? Or—” he didn't get a chance to finish as Cassidy growled and her eyes flashed angrily. James let out a laugh and grabbed her wrist, removing her hand from his chin. “I promise…” he said with a smirk, taking her other hand by the wrist as well before he moved forward, backing her up against the wall. James lifted her hands and raised them above her head then pressing them against the tiles behind her. He looked down at her, his smirking grin quickly being replaced with a solemn expression. “I promise… I will not hide anything that matters from you again.” He swore to her, leaning down to press his forehead to hers. “I'm sorry I did and It won't happen again.”
Cassidy could hear the sincerity in his tone, see it and the regret on James’ face. Her anger melted and her body relaxed against him, a small smile tugging at her lips. “Except for surprises.” She teased him. James grinned back when she lightened his mood and Cassidy leaned up a little to give his lower lip a nip with her teeth, giving her mate something else to think about as she took his mouth with a hungry kiss.
