Chapter 47

Chapter 47

Amelia's POV.

I was still surprised to see Kaiden when he walked up to me to help me up from the ground after killing the guard, I was never expecting to see him, even if he would still show up from wherever he must have been to all this while, I never thought it would be now of all time, and to crown it all, he showed up just at the right time, when I needed him the most.

I was staring at him, wondering if it was a dream or reality, yet I didn't allow my astonishment to hinder the excitement I was feeling for finally seeing him again after all these days of worrying about him; I had missed him a lot, and that was one fact I could not deny.

My heart leaped in excitement in a way that I never expected when he gently helped me up; staring into his face left a magical throb in my heart each time my gaze landed on him.

I never thought I would miss him this much, I had only come to realize how much I cherish this man's presence in my life after I stayed this few days without setting my eyes on him. I felt happier than ever seeing that he was finally back.

‘finally back to me,’ I thought inwardly in excitement but quickly shunned myself from having such a thought.

“Thank God coming to rescue me, I…” I instantly held my words back when I saw how Kaiden just nodded in an oddly cold manner, he seemed not to care about my excitement or my appreciation. He acted indifferently, just as he had been acting for the past few days before he disappeared into nowhere, and that sent a chill into my heart.

I felt like I was beginning to be over-excited and oblivious about his coming back, I almost let my mouth loose just the way I had let my mind loose to express how much I had missed him, but thank goodness I was able to hold myself back beforehand, I would not want to make a fool of myself since he is acting cold and indifferent.

I remained calm after I stood to my feet, battling with a lot of thought in my mind on Kaiden's attitude towards me, but then, he said something that moved my attention back to the present. Immediately, my ear caught wind of his words.

“I discovered something strange recently, Alpha  Damien is not the biological son of Alpha Dorovan.”

“Huh?” I exclaimed as I turned to look at him in surprise.

“Yes, He seemed to be birthed out of wedlock, an illegitimate son of Luna Bella and someone she was having a secret affair with,” Kaiden explained further.

The news that he had delivered left me in awe; every single passing word from the sentences sent a shock signal to my mind as I wondered how evil and tactical the Luna could be. She had a child out of wedlock for the Alpha, yet no one in the pack knows about it over the years; this made me realize how secrecy she was and the extent she could bury her dirty acts to keep her image in a clean shade. I also wondered who could be the person that is the biological father of Damien, but just as I was about to ask the question, Kaiden cleared my thoughts by giving me the name of the possible biological father of Damien.

“Nathan has the traces of being Damien's father” he stated.

“Nathan? You mean the Alpha's advisor?” I asked, trying to clear my curiosity.

“Exactly, the Alpha's advisor; he has been having an affair with the Luna,” Kaiden dropped the second bombshell.

“Their into a secret relationship?” I asked against trying to process the entire thing.

“Yes, I found out that the two have been in a secret love affair for quite a long time now, possibly even before Damien was born. Damien is Nathan's son, not Alpha Dorovans’,” Damien clarified.

I was shocked and could not believe that such a scandal was going on in the pack even before I was thrown out, and I didn't even find out about it, nobody seemed to know the dirty secrets of the Luna up until now.

On second thought, I wondered where Kaiden had gotten the information from; he was new to the pack and didn't have any close alley in the pack that could disclose such a delicate secret to him, so where could he possibly get the information from?

Besides, such a secret is tantamount to a life and death secret, a kind of secret that would kept under oath, and money can not buy off such information. It is either he was lying to me which I know very much that Kaiden wouldn't do, or it was told to him by a secret admiral. I decided to clear my curiosity and not make assumptions.

“How were you able to dig out this information?” I asked after a moment.

“From a friend, Elara” he answered and looked away, busy cleaning up the blood splash from the guard he had killed that was on his arm.

‘It was Elara, and he called her a friend’ I said inwardly as the realization dawned on me. Pain and anger surged from my inner core as I thought about the word Damien had used for Elara, he had called her a friend, meaning that she was becoming someone special to him.

A sudden flirt of jealousy enclosed my mind as the thought of them together all this while he was away slid into my head, making me enraged towards Elara. I was cold for some seconds, trying to fight the anger that was boiling inside of me.

I didn't want him to see through my feelings, and I didn't bother asking him about Elara; that would only reduce my sense of pride and make me look like an intruder in his private life.

“We have to return to the pack house now,” Damien said, breaking the long silence that was almost consuming us.

“Okay,” I nodded as we both walked back to the pack house.

I stole a glance at him again as we walked into the pack house and looked away when I saw that he was not even looking in my direction; I felt terribly hurt seeing how Kaiden was drifting away from me; he had suddenly turned completely different.

He didn't seem to want to show me the attention he used to give me; I was missing him terribly; I missed the time and attention he gave me, the way he used to treat me, and how much care he gave me.

I terribly want him back, I wanted everything back, I wanted the light to be rekindled but seeing how stoic he had turned towards me sent a sudden wave of anxiety into my mind.

I suddenly became anxious about the distance that was growing between us. I felt like my silence and cold attitude towards him most of the time had started to build a bridge between us, and now, he is beginning to hate me.

I was scared and didn't want him to hate me, I was only acting on impulse and only trying to be cautious. As much as I loved him and also appreciated his love for me, I was still scared of his love; I didn't want to make the same mistake I made with Damien; I couldn't afford to suffer the pain all over again.

“See you later,” I said to him as we finally arrived at the mansion.

Kaiden only nodded and went into his room without saying a word to me. I walked into my room feeling restless about Kaiden's present attitude towards me. He was completely cold to me, and that made me more uncomfortable.
