Chapter 46
Chapter 46
Amelia's POV.
I woke up the next day feeling quite obnoxious about the witches, thoughts about how they are faring and what those tugs could be doing to them this time around filled my mind. I remembered how they were brutally punished the other day, how one of them was mercilessly beaten while being forced to perform some deadly spells.
I knew they would still be facing another phase of terrible treatment, so I decided to go check on them that morning; I also wanted to know if I would be able to gather more information from them regarding Dorovan's health and also about the identity of the person behind the mask.
I got ready after breakfast and went into the forest, in search of the house where I had met the witches the last time. Everything became a bit complicated for me as I could no longer trace the route that led to the dilapidated house I saw last time.
“Could it be that I'm on the wrong track?” I muttered under my breath as I kept walking deep into the forest, looking around for the house.
I was beginning to be frustrated, thoughts filled with doubt wrecking my mind. I was thinking about giving up and returning to the pack house since I had gone deep enough and still couldn't find anything; perhaps I would continue the next day by taking another route.
Just then, I heard some sound, footsteps precisely coming from a few distance away from where I was. I knew at that instant that there were people in there with me, or the noise would probably be coming from the house I had been searching for.
The house was the only thing in this forest, so it will definitely be coming from it. I was glad that I was finally close to my destination, but first, I quickly sneaked into a secret hideout I had found by the side of a tree close to where I was and hid myself there.
I remained calm in there, patiently waiting for the noise to fade away so I could go forward and check what lay ahead. Not long after I hid myself in the hideout, the footsteps gradually began to fade, and in no time, the path became clear and silent.
I came out of the hideout and quickly walked towards the direction where the noise had come from, looking around to make sure everything was clear, and nobody was following me.
There and then, I found the dilapidated house I had been searching for. I walked closer to the house and to my surprise, I found out that there was no guard around there. I took that opportunity and carefully sneaked into the house.
I was surprised when one of the women in the house instantly called me by my mother's name; she had already recognized me as Nadia's daughter, and she called me her name immediately after I walked in.
“Yes, I'm Nadia's daughter,” I answered to confirm her curiosity.
“How did you know?” I asked, wondering how she was able to recognize me even when I was in disguise.
“Her blood runs in your veins; I can feel it,” she answered with a smile mixed with tears that had already welled up at the corners of her eyes and already found their way down to her cheeks as she continued with her words.
“She is our queen. We are from the Redmoon pack, and we were the last of our kind before I saw you now,” she explained amidst her tears.
I was broken seeing them in such a miserable situation; I could feel and tell the level of pain coming from those hot tears that were streaming down her cheeks.
I blamed myself so dearly for their predicament, If only I had taken over the leadership position of my pack earlier, perhaps my people wouldn't have gone through this misery because I will protect them.
A new wave of anger and guilt surged through me, but I quickly waved it; I needed to find out who had kept them here and a way to take them out of this place as soon as possible.
“How did you get here? Who kept you people here?” I asked hastily as I walked closer to them, to the woman who had recognized me earlier.
“We were abducted during the war, and we have been kept here all that while, compelled to do evil by making evil spells” the woman answered.
“Who was the person…” just then, my words were taken out of my mouth by a hand that grabbed me from the back.
I turned to see that it was one of the guards who had suddenly entered. I tried to free myself from his hold, but he seemed too tough for me to fight. I was a beginner to see myself equally tied up just like those women in there, but I didn't give up on the fight.
I knew that if I allowed myself to be captured by this man, a lot of things would go wrong, a lot of things were at stake, and I couldn't afford to give in. These women need their freedom back, and I still have a plan to accomplish. For that reason, I can't let myself be overpowered and captured by this guard.
I had to put in more effort, every bit of my strength, to make sure I pulled away from his grip. Luckily for me, I was able to finally escape and instantly made my way to the door.
I dashed into the forest with the bruises I had acquired from the man when I was fighting to escape from him, running as fast as my legs and my last strength could carry me. The man didn't give up either, he immediately came after me, chasing after me as I ran deep into the wilderness. I prayed secretly in my heart, begging the goddess to help me this one last time.
Just then, the guard threw a heavy iron bat at my knees, hurting my knees badly which made me fall to my face, leaving a loud thud as I screamed in pain. The guard walked closer to me and spat on me.
“Little brat, you think you can escape from me” he spat and bent to drag me back to the house with him.
“Let me go!” I yelled and struggled weakly but he paid no heed to me.
Just as he was about to drag me away, a sudden thud came in, hitting the guard to the ground. I looked up only to see that it was Kaiden who had come to rescue me.
“Kaiden,” I muttered under my breath as I saw him walk into the view.
For seconds, I could not believe my eyes as I wondered where he had come from and how he had gotten to know that I was. He had been away for what seemed like two days now with no trace of him around the pack, so where could he be coming from?
I was still in awe of what was happening before the guard struggled up again almost immediately and charged toward him; Kaiden, with no hesitation, also came at him with full force as they clashed into a fight. They both fought violently and in no time, Kaiden defeated him and killed him instantly with no stress.
