Chapter 256 The Drawing
Chapter 256 The Drawing
Thorin looked at the house with all the strong, sweet-smelling flowers growing in the garden.
“Yeah, the house with the little child. Sapphire went inside to give her chocolates. What is happening?” shouted Thorin. “My Eve knows Elder Fenmark. This house has a small child. Who? What? How?”
“Relax your mind! Let me help!” said Corvin and jumped out of the car. He wanted to open the gate but knew that it would attract attention, so he just stood behind the tall tree outside the property. He focused his mind towards the people inside and searched for the weakest mind to infiltrate. He was going to hear the conversation through their thoughts.
“What are you doing?” asked Thorin, following behind him.
“Shh… let me hear! I will tell you everything. Even show you the vision. Just let me concentrate!” said Corvin.
“Mommy! Mommy!” Valeska came running and jumped into Maeve’s arms. Due to the heavy dress, Maeve fell to the floor and sat down. She grabbed Valeska and then hugged her. But no one was hurt or injured. They both ended up laughing.
“Careful, Vale!” shouted Maeve and immediately hugged Valeska tightly. She closed her eyes and took in every feeling of hugging Valeska. She was breathing heavily and had her hands wrapped around her daughter as tightly as she could.
“Mommy! You are hugging too tight!” said Valeska.
“Sorry! Sorry!” smiled Maeve and let Valeska go.
“What are you two doing on the floor? Vale? Let your mother at least take a breath,” laughed Eleanor.
“Yes, sweetie! Let her up!” said Harriet.
“No, no, wait! Mommy, I made you something!” laughed Valeska ran inside and walked out immediately. She had a piece of A4-size paper in her hand. “Look, look, Mommy, what I made for you,” Valeska shoved the paper into Maeve’s hand. While waiting for Valeska to get out of her room, everyone had shifted to the couch.
A beautiful drawing appeared before Maeve’s eyes. Three ladies holding hands with a tiny girl at the side were drawn on the paper. There was also a blue blotch and a green blotch on the top of the paper.
“Wow! We have a painter in our home,” laughed Eleanor.
“Yes, this is Nana, this is Grandma, Mommy and me,” giggled Valeska.
“And what are these?” laughed Maeve.
“This is the sky, and this is a tree,” replied Valeska after pointing at the blotches. All three ladies started laughing after hearing her explanation.
“I am never going to let Thorin find out about you. No one can find out about you, my sweetie. I will protect you. I will save you,” thought Maeve.
“Mommy! Do you like it?” asked Valeska.
“Yes, I love it! My sweetie is the best.”
“No, my mommy is the best,” said Valeska and again jumped into Maeve’s lap. “How was the party, Mommy? Did you bring me sweets?”
Maeve bit her lip for a second, calmed her heart down, as she was still afraid that Thorin would come after her and then snatch her daughter away from her. “Sorry, sweetie! The food was bleh… not at all good. And people… so rude. Every person who came from Kaldreth is just rotten to the core. God! I just want to quit now. I don’t want to see any of their faces.”
Valeska grabbed Maeve’s face, and Maeve urgently stopped talking. Valeska kissed her on the lips, and while caressing her cheeks with love, she assured her, “Don’t worry, Mommy. You can quit. I will go and find a job. You have taken care of me for so long. Now I will take care of you. Anyone who bullies my mommy, I will punch them.”
Maeve laughed loudly and pulled Valeska closer. She started raining kisses all over Valeska’s face, making her giggle with happiness. “Thank you, my hero! But you don’t have to punch them at all. I will be fine. I just want you to be safe. And no one bullies me. I am the strong mommy, right?”
“Yes, my mommy didn’t even need a man. My mommy is the strongest. My Nana and my Grandma are strong too. I love you all,” smiled Valeska.
“Okay, let me change into something light. And then we will have dinner. I am hungry,” said Maeve.
“Okay, okay! But you really liked my drawing? Do you want me to draw a man in the picture?” asked Valeska.
“What? Why do you ask that?” asked Maeve, shocked.
“We have Grandpa Eirik. He is family too. Will he be angry that I didn’t draw him?” asked Valeska.
Maeve sighed with relief. “No, sweetie! He won’t be angry. No one can be angry at you. Make him another drawing, okay?”
“Okay!” shouted Valeska after throwing her arms in the air.
Maeve moved into her room, and after a few minutes, all the ladies sat at the dining table for dinner. Everyone was tired by then. They all ate in silence and then wasted their time watching cartoons on TV.
Corvin looked at Thorin and showed him everything. “That’s her mother. I showed you her thoughts and her point of view. Eve has a daughter, and by the looks of it, they don’t have any men living with them. Saw that drawing? There were no men!”
Tears kept streaming down Thorin’s face. He stumbled and fell on his ass on the street. “She… she has a daughter. Did I lose her? who is the father? And where is he? What happened in these five years, Corvin!” Thorin kept crying. Not once did he make a move to wipe his tears.
“Stop, Thorin! Don’t jump to conclusions. The way the child looked, she looked like an amalgamation of both you and Eve. Didn’t you look at her eyes? She has your eyes!” said Corvin.
“Really?” Thorin was suddenly excited and happy. “Can… can she be mine? But how?”
“Didn’t you have sex with her that night, you idiot?” snapped Corvin.
“Yes, yes, I did. But can one night make this happen?” asked Thorin, still sceptical.
“That… only she can tell you,” replied Corvin.
“Then I will go talk to her now,” said Thorin and started walking towards the house, but Corvin pulled him back and snapped, “Are you an idiot? She says she does not remember you, and now you will barge into her house when there are no men inside. Do you have any idea how scary that can be? How stupid are you?”
“Right! Sorry!” said Thorin and backed off.
“And speaking of stupid, you should know one thing. Vespera planned something for you tonight,” said Corvin.
“Oh, she is so good to me. What surprise did she plan tonight?” asked Thorin.
Corvin scoffed, “Good? If I tell you, please don’t go all crazy and angry.”
Thorin looked at Corvin with worry and confusion. “Crazy? Angry? What do you mean?”
“She was going to… drug you tonight!” stammered Corvin.
