Chapter 255 The Running
Chapter 255 The Running
Maeve clenched her fists in anger and pain. She finally saw the man she thought she loved, but she was betrayed, and yet he was acting as if he had finally found his life. Her heart had turned into mush because of the pain it was feeling. But the fear in her brain was stronger. She had to keep Valeska safe.
Maeve pushed Thorin away and ran out of the room. She had to get away, and she ran towards the main exit. But to do that, she would have to get back to the party. She had no idea if there were any more exits. Tears kept falling down her face. Her tears kept blurring her vision.
With one hand, she raised her dress to make it easier for her to walk, and with the other hand, she kept wiping her tears. She ran and ran and finally reached the party hall; she wiped her tears and abruptly froze. The scene before her was unfathomable. Everyone was kneeling down and looked like they were in pain, but no one was moving.
“What… what is this?” asked Maeve. No one looked at her. No one heard her. No one even turned after hearing her voice. She ran towards Vella and crouched down to look at her. “Vella! Vella! What are you doing?”
But Vella didn’t move. She slowly lifted her eyelids and looked at Maeve. “Can’t… move!” she somehow croaked.
“What are you talking about? Let’s go!” snapped Maeve. She knew Thorin was coming, and she had to move, move fast and out of his sight.
“Ma…eve!” Vella tried hard, but nothing more came out. She was under Thorin’s alpha spell. He had ordered everyone not to move, and no one was capable of moving.
“Vella, please! Let’s go! I need to go!” Maeve was on the verge of breaking. Tears had pooled back in her eyes.
“Go!” mumbled Vella and moved her eyes towards the door.
“You… you want me to go? You want me to leave you?” asked Maeve.
“Ye…s!”
“What is this? Is this some kind of sick joke? Vella, move!!” snapped Maeve.
“G…o!” said Vella.
Maeve gritted her teeth and chided her, “Fine! I am leaving. Don’t pout when you see me next.” Maeve stood up and urgently took out her phone. She ordered the cab and ran outside. She hit behind a tall, thick trunk of a tree and for a minute tried to catch her breath.
Thorin stood in the room, frozen in shock. Whatever Maeve said to him fried his brain. She was in his arms that night. He saved her from her friends. He kissed her that night. He had sex with her that night. They could not get enough of each other, so what happened now? How could Maeve say that she didn’t remember him? Did she get into an accident? Was that the reason she forgot about him? Was that the reason she never came to find him? But what was the reason that he was unable to find her?
He looked at the position Maeve had stood a few seconds ago, and he saw emptiness; his heart felt empty. “No, no, I have to talk to her. I have to ask her everything. What did she mean when she said she didn’t know him?”
He ran after her, but the corridor was empty now. “How fast is she?” Thorin searched for her everywhere. He followed her scent and finally reached the party hall. When he saw everyone frozen, he clenched his teeth and bit his tongue between his teeth in shame. He had forgotten that he had again used his alpha power and ordered everyone not to move.
“Shit! I am an idiot! But where is she?” roared Thorin. “Corvin! Move!” he ordered, and Corvin stood up. The pressure he was feeling was gone.
“You… idiot! What is this? Release everyone now!” snapped Corvin.
“Scold me later. Tell me where she went,” said Thorin.
“It was her, right?” asked Corvin. His eyes went wide, and the excitement was clear in them.
“Yes! We found her! I found her. But she ran away again. Tell me where she went!” snapped Thorin.
“Outside! She ran outside!” replied Corvin. Thorin was about to run away behind Maeve, but he looked at everyone and sighed loudly. He rubbed his whole face in frustration and finally ordered everyone, “Move after five minutes, and no one will follow me! Enjoy the party!”
Thorin ran outside, and Corvin followed him immediately. “Wait! If she is that girl, why is she running away from you?” asked Corvin.
“No idea! Find her! I have to ask her the same questions. But she said that she never met me; she does not recognise me,” replied Thorin and kept his head moving in every direction to look for a woman in a navy blue royal dress. But she was nowhere to be found.
“Excuse me!” yelled Corvin in shock. “What did you do to her that night that she refuses to even recognise you?” he started laughing.
“I am extremely angry, Corvin. Keep laughing, and I will knock every single tooth of yours. Am I clear?” snapped Thorin.
“Yeah, right! Sorry!” Corvin lowered his head and stopped talking. Suddenly, he lifted his head and saw Thorin looking in the same direction. A cab passed by, and a woman was sitting in the backseat with every window closed. Yet they could smell her. “There!” shouted Corvin.
Thorin started running behind the cab, but Corvin grabbed his hand and pulled him back. “Don’t! If she sees you running faster than the car, she will freak out. I will get the car. We can follow her. Be patient!” ordered Corvin.
“Be fast!” shouted Thorin when he saw Corvin running to the valet to get the car keys. Within seconds, Corvin was back. Thorin jumped into the car, and they followed Maeve’s scent. Thorin kept shaking his legs anxiously. He chewed on his lips and didn’t stop till he felt a sharp pain as he bit them by mistake.
“Stop! Stop worrying. We found her. We are not letting your Eve go! Okay?” said Corvin and kept driving. Corvin bit his lip and kept driving. Something was bothering him; he had to tell Thorin before it would be too late, but now Thorin’s mind was occupied with the thoughts of his true love. First, Corvin was taking him to her, and then he would tell him everything he heard and saw today.
Driving behind the cab, they moved into a familiar street. “Wait! Don’t we know this street? We were here,” said Corvin.
“Yeah, while looking for the house. Elder Eirik’s assistant came here. She stopped at this corner. Woah! Where did her scent go?” asked Thorin.
Corvin slowed his car, and they both looked in every direction to find Maeve. When they saw a cab driving away from a house filled with all kinds of scented flowers and a woman in a blue dress running inside, they finally stopped.
“Isn’t this…?” asked Corvin.
