Chapter 247 The Petty and The Childish
Chapter 247 The Petty and The Childish
“Tiredness?” asked Maeve, giggling with happiness after receiving Valeska’s sweet kisses.
“Yes, yes, that!” giggled Valeska. Both mother and daughter were kissing each other and giggling when there was a continuous ringing of the doorbell along with continuous knocking.
“What the…?” shouted Maeve, annoyed. “Stop! Stop! I am coming!” Maeve put Valeska on the couch and ran to the door. She urgently opened the door and was shocked to see Vella and Thessia standing at the door. “What the hell is wrong with you two?”
“Wrong with us? You think there is something wrong with us? What the hell is wrong with you? Why have you not stayed in the office? Why have you not met with Mr Blackridge? Why do you have to come early and then leave and never come back to the office? Do you have any idea what he has been doing to us?
“Do you have any idea what he just said today? Do you have any idea that we will be fired if you don’t come back to the office? Do you have any idea how many times he has snapped at us? Do you have any idea that he will shut the office down if you don’t go and see him? He has been kicking our ass with the tests. No seniors have been able to pass the test. He thinks we are all a bunch of stupid people who just got into IT by chance.
“We know nothing; we are idiots. He looks at us as if we are idiots, and then he threatens to fire us. Do you even care about us? Do you? Do you?” Vella started talking like bullets were coming out of a machine gun. She went into Maeve's face and kept talking and talking. And Maeve kept stepping back in annoyance, but Vella was never the one to back down. She kept moving into Maeve’s face again and again.
“Say something!” snapped Vella.
“If you will give me the opportunity to talk, then only I can talk. Will you, dear Hurricane, shut the hell up?” shouted Maeve, grabbed Vella’s shoulder and shook her with force.
“No! no! I cannot. I cannot shut up. I cannot even keep my mouth closed in fear. My mouth has gone dry. I can’t even gulp. There is no saliva. I have been breathing through my mouth in fear and shock. You will get everyone fired. You will get the office shut down. I can’t breathe, I can’t think, I can’t even stop my mouth from running,” Vella again continued.
After hearing everything, Harriet’s blood ran cold. When she heard that Blackridge were in town, she looked at Maeve and Valeska with worry and fear. “Mr Blackridge? What do you mean by Mr Blackridge?"
“Grandma! Sweetie! Can you bring water for your Auntie Hurricane?” mocked Maeve. She knew no one had any idea that Valeska was Thorin Blackridge’s daughter. She still thought that no one knew about her secret. She had no idea how Harriet had used her magic and knew everything about Thorin and her one-night affair. She even knew that Valeska was an alpha’s child.
Valeska looked at Harriet and sniggered after seeing how fast Vella kept talking. Harriet had no other option but to go to the kitchen and bring water for everyone. The moment they walked away, Maeve asked, “What are you talking about? Tell me before anyone comes and stop saying Blackridge!!!”
“Oh my! You… you are really avoiding him, aren’t you?” Thessia immediately understood what Maeve was doing.
Maeve’s eyes widened in shock. She wanted to hide the fact that she was indeed hiding from Thorin, and now the secret was out in the open. “What? No!” Her voice climbed a notch.
“You are! You totally are!” gasped Vella and covered her mouth in surprise.
“Tell me everything! Now!!” commanded Thessia.
“What everything? There is nothing to tell!” cried Maeve in fear.
“What are you hiding, Maeve?” asked both Thessia and Vella together.
“Nothing! Nothing!” Maeve had no idea what to say. She was never going to tell anyone that she had a one-night stand with Thorin and then he sent killers to kill her. So she had been hiding from him all her life.
“Maeve!” screamed Vella.
“Okay, okay, shut your mouth! Talk softly. No one can hear this,” snapped Maeve.
“What? What are you hiding?” asked Thessia, worried.
“Think of a lie, think of a lie,” Maeve uttered in her mind. She gulped, took a deep breath, and then spoke, “Thorin Blackridge was my senior. He was the best student in the college. Every record belonged to him, and then I started studying there, and I started breaking every record. So, now he hates me. He will kill me the moment he sees me. That’s why I have been avoiding him. But I have been productive. I have had meetings with our client every day. No one can say I don’t work. I work my ass off. What kind of nonsense is this that I have to work inside the office, that I have to show my face every day? You want work, you want projects done. That has been happening. What more do I have to do?” Maeve was getting angrier and angrier.
“Okay, okay, calm down. We had no idea Thorin Blackridge was this petty. After working with you for so many years, we know you can break any record. Why is he being childish?” asked Thessia.
“Yeah, who declares that he will fire everyone and then shut the office down just because one employee is not coming to the office? Is he out of his mind? And way to go, overachiever. There was this article that he was the best ethical hacker in the world; did you break that record too?” smiled Vella and kept clapping her hands in excitement.
“Okay, shhh… Grandma is coming. You all will keep your mouth shut and do not use the name Blackridge. Understood?” whispered Maeve when she heard Harriet walking to the living room.
“Why? Why?” asked Vella.
“I don’t want her to worry. Everyone knows who the Blackridges are. What if their name, their power makes my grandma afraid? Keep your mouth shut!” warned Maeve.
“Okay, okay, relax!” said Vella and looked at Thessia. She too nodded.
Harriet brought a glass of water for everyone with some cookies. “Here!” she smiled.
“Thank you, grandma!” replied Vella.
“I brought cookies for you,” Valeska pouted, folding her arms over her tiny chest.
“Oh, my sweetie! Thank you very much. If you brought cookies, we brought you this…” screamed Vella and showed a big cake box to Valeska.
“What is it? What is it?” shouted Valeska in excitement.
“Your favourite!” screamed Thessia and picked Valeska up in her arms.
“Huuhhh!!” gasped Valeska and shouted, “chocolava cakes?” Vella and Thessia nodded at her, happily.
Valeska immediately furrowed her brows and looked at both Vella and Thessia. “Why are you giving me bride?”
“Huh… what?” asked Vella.
Maeve laughed and explained, “She means bribe. She also knows that if anyone gives her chocolava cake except on Sundays, they are bribing her. So what do you want?”
