79. Siyo

79. Siyo
Raelyn’s pov

‘You can’t go with him.’

‘But he’s my boyfriend.’ I replied.

‘He’s our mate. And he can handle himself. But until you’ve marked him, you should be careful. You’re not strong enough yet.’

She called herself Godasiyo but said I could call her Siyo, and apparently… she’s my wolf. And she can talk to me.

Like…what the hell?!

‘And I can hear your thoughts, human.’

And she can hear my thoughts!

But I trusted her; even if I didn’t know why, I knew that if Siyo said I needed to stay back, I should listen.

Thankfully, Torin didn’t fight me on my decision too much.

He did, however, tell me he’d take me there himself, even though I knew he needed to go back quickly.

‘You are still weak from your first shift,’ Siyo reminded me.

I was. But that didn’t mean I wouldn’t be able to get there myself. I just… I knew instinctively that there was something really wrong going on at the Midnight Moon pack.

‘It’s not instinct.’ Siyo tried to explain, but Torin interrupted her.

“You’re sure you’re okay, because…”

“I’m okay.” I stopped Torin, knowing he was feeling conflicted. He wanted to be here with me, but he had responsibilities at home.

He had carried me on his back to Ruth’s place and was ready to take off. We were running all the way there, so there was no way for me to tell him about Siyo. Besides, I wasn’t sure if this was the right time anyway. He had enough on his mind.

“You know I wouldn’t go if it wasn’t necessary,” he explained.

“I know.” And I did. I knew how much he loved me and how worried he was. But he’s the alpha. His pack needs him.

Torin gave me one last kiss and then shifted back, running towards the pack.

‘As I was saying…’

I still needed to get used to hearing someone in my head!

‘… you don’t just know instinctively what’s going on,’ Siyo explained. ‘You are feeling Torin’s emotions through your bond.’

No. That’s crazy! But… I did feel very relieved when I was in extreme pain, which didn’t make sense at the time. But if that was what Torin was feeling, realizing I was a werewolf, it explained it.

Torin had explained to me how forming a bond with someone could lead to you feeling their emotions, but I never thought it would happen to me.

‘You need to rest.’

I scoffed and said out loud, “how can I rest?”

‘When he comes back, it can go two ways. Either it’s bad or it’s good. And you need to prepare yourself for both outcomes. You won’t be able to shift again if you don’t have any energy.’

Shift again! It was horrible the first time. Shifting back sucked too, but Siyo guided me through it.

‘How do you know it can be good or bad? Can you like predict the future?’ I asked my wolf.

She laughed, ‘no, it’s just common sense. A pack being attacked while the alpha is away is not random. Neither was the attack on your pack.’

‘My pack?’

‘Rest first. I will answer your questions after.’

So my wolf is bossy, I guess.

I lay down on the couch, and even though my head was too busy thinking about everything that had just happened and everything that could go wrong, my body was too tired to care. Once I closed my eyes, I fell asleep.

It was the voices of Enya and Torin’s mom that woke me up. And the scents of them.

I had never really noticed the scents. And when I opened my eyes, suddenly everything looked brighter. It was like I had gone from an old TV to an HD movie.

And then they turned on the lights! Making everything even more clear.

“You smell different.” Enya said.

“Don’t be rude…”

Enya chuckled, “I’m not talking about the scent of sex on Raelyn, Mom. I was talking about her scent. It’s different.”

Should I tell them?

‘If you trust them.’ Siyo said.

I do.

“I have a wolf now.” I said. The words sounded so strange to me. “Um, after Torin marked me, I shifted. That’s why he wasn’t there immediately. But… what is going on anyway?”

“A wolf! You’re a werewolf!” Enya was freaking out.

“We need to table that for later, for we need to fill Raelyn in on everything.” Mora said, sounding very serious.

“Is Torin okay?”

‘You would have felt it if he wasn’t.’ Siyo comforted me before Enya or Mora could.

“He is.” Mora sighed. “I know Torin wants to protect you, and I need you to know, I don’t blame you. At all! They’re dumb. But I think you should know the truth. My son is a great leader, but he’s not his father. That’s never been a problem for me, but it has been a problem for a lot of older folks in the pack. They wanted to keep everything as it was. And with you… well, now they have another excuse. Someone else to blame.”

“What do you mean?”

“The council has been meeting with other packs to see if they can take the title away from Torin. Killing him would be the quickest way to do so, but he’s stronger than most, and it would look poorly on them. So, they’re trying a political approach, I guess.”

Enya growled, “they are trying to force Torin to step down and using you as his mate as proof of his lack of ability to lead. They claim that the Moon Goddess would never bless a worthy alpha with a human mate.”

“But I’m not human… Maybe I should tell them and, -“

Mora smiled at me and placed her hand on mine, “you’re their scapegoat, honey. If it wasn’t you, they’d find a different reason. They want to control Torin.” She sighed with a heavy heart, “my mate was more traditional, but Torin has always had great ambitions. With him in charge, the company has made more money than it has done in years, but being that successful comes with a higher chance of notability. And our pack doesn’t want to be noticed. We as a people don’t need to stand out; we need to keep hidden.”

“So you agree with them?” Enya scoffed.

“No!” Mora raised her hands in surrender as she looked at me and her daughter. “No. People just fear innovation. They’re trying too hard to hold onto the past.” Mora looked at me and smiled. A real smile, “but they are too busy looking back that they don’t see all the wonderful things right in front of them. You are a blessing, Raelyn. To my son and to the pack.”

I don’t know if it was Siyo or me, but I shook my head. “I only feel an obligation to your son and his family. Not to the rest. If they want me as their luna, great. If not, then I won’t beg to be accepted.’

Siyo laughed mockingly inside my head, ‘ooooh, they will be the ones begging once they realize who they’ve turned away.’
